Is Minecraft Dying?
I have played Minecraft since August 2010. I have been apart of numerous servers, and made dozens of and watched thousands of Minecraft videos(namely Mindcrack. I have taken numerous breaks from the game and each time I came back it felt like the game was in full swing. However, I took a break from Minecraft and making Youtube videos for about 3-4 months and it just feels like the community is dying(Including feels like Mindcrack is dying a bit). Does anyone else feel this way or is it just the fact that I am less involved in the Minecraft community than I used to be. It would be great to get your input!
P.S. I am asking this because I want to see the Minecraft community thrive and it disappoints me to think it may be dying
P.S.S. I realize that this is a frequently started thread and i apologize for posting this w/o searching the forums more thoroughly.
No, a lot of us are still here. Even today; new people are still joining Minecraft. It's both growing and losing players. It will die eventually, not yet.

I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
I think Minecraft was a HUGE success then but now people want something that's fun and not something that they get bored of after 30min-1hr of gameplay.... Minecraft is still popular today but it just doesn't have the feeling it used to have. it needs that same spark that got it up and running. Mojang did a great job with Scrolls and Cobalt but Minecraft is what they're known for. I personally think Minecraft is on its way to being a game where people just don't know what to do anymore, but people over the past 2-3 years people have lost creativity and don't know what to do or build in Minecraft. I'm not saying everyone lost their imagination but some people get bored. But overall I think Minecraft needs that spark they had in old alpha....
I'm actually curious to see what happens to Minecraft when EQN: Landmark comes out, as that can do anything Minecraft can do, with much prettier graphics (not a huge fuss to me), the ability to add more detail, and it's free to play. I'm not saying Minecraft is instantly going to be deaded (purposely misspelled) but I for one will find my time being consumed more by EQN: Landmark than Minecraft. Another reason I may be leaving is how... rude (since I can't use a more appropriate word due to forum rules), the community has been to Mojang since Beta 1.7. Back then when the pistons where added, they didn't fling stuff in the air like the mod did, and people were a bit dissapointed but they were more like 'it's your game Mojang, do what you want' and now we're here in 1.7 and the reaction when the rose was replaced with a poppy was disgusting, people were literally going 'YOU SCREWED UP THE GAME MOJANG! FIX YOUR CRAP!' and I was just... shocked, to see what the once peaceful community of Minecraft has turned into. Another reason is, I just don't know what to do anymore, I never go on Minecraft unless a friend is playing it, and even then we're not on for long before we play something like Starbound or Loadout, and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same. The spark of Alpha lit the fire to Beta and it grew bigger to official release, but now it's dying out in my opinion.
EDIT: I forgot one thing, the 14 million sales on PC? That's only sales, not people playing, so any number of those 14 million could have left by now
I think it's still going rock strong. Look at the numbers of the massive numbers of servers there are. Don't forget to take into account everyone who plays single-player.
Why do so many people ask this question? At least once or twice a month it is asked now.
No, minecraft is not dying, I think if anything minecraft is growing. Like every update some people where being silly and crying over nothing when they could just downgrade...

Minecraft's community is still growing, sales increase, more servers are created.
This reminds me of my times on forums of games that were really dying, and the amount of posts there would stagnate slowly, until you had a post a day at most instead of about 25.
You don't know what a dying community looks like and you definitely won't find it here.

i'm on the same page as Artifact123, I was part of two forum communities that died, one completely and one that's staying up as an archive, so in comparison to those communities I don't see any of the same signs of downfall or decay to say that minecraft is *going down hill* or *dying* at all.
it's a unique game on its own and with that being said, with all the updates and constant feedback from both creators and players alike and the mine-cons (which NEED to have one in Vancouver BC canada :D) it's not going away for A LONG time.
"Minecraft is still popular today, but it just doesn't have the feeling it used to have.", as Voxhall said. This sentence perfectly says what's going on with Minecraft.
No, that sentence perfectly states an opinion. One which is highly subjective and vague.
As others have said, this game isn't dying. The Community is constantly coming up with new skins, resource packs, maps, and mods. But perhaps even more importantly, the developers are actively adding to the game every day. That is the very definition of "thriving" (the exact opposite of dying).
My opinion is that it is on the way down just because so many people have gotten their fill of it. A good portion of the demographic that will enjoy the game has already played the heck out of it, and over time, even the core audience of Minecraft will start to deteriorate. I think that the game peaked about a year ago and we're just past that point. But when that peak is Mt. Everest you have a long way to go before you hit the bottom, which would still be the Himalayas.
I love the heck out of MC, and I don't see it's death coming for another 5+ years, but over time everything recedes, Minecraft is no different.
It's dying for individual people, sure, but the community itself will continue to grow. They just sold their 14,000,000th copy of the PC version a few days ago and I think they have sold 13,000,000 copies on Xbox too. That alone is nearly 10% of the US population (but of course not everyone who plays it lives here, and some people own it for multiple devices)
I think it depends on how long a player has been in the game. I picked up on the game Feb. 2013. I have several games running in single player survivor mode. I switch in and out of peaceful and easy modes. I have just gotten involved with the multiplayer play on Paviliongaming.com and enjoy it as well. I don't see where the game is dying. I do believe that some longtime players might becoming a little board with the game. There is just so far that you can go in building an empire before accomplishing the same thing over and over again does get a bit too much.
I have had the same feelings with all the older gaming platforms that I have played since my first Commodore 64. It does do some good to step away from a certain game that a person has been playing for a long period. Minecraft is getting to be an old game in the computer gaming circles.
Just my two cents worth.

Sorry to beat a dead horse! I was just curious to see if it was just in my little corner of the Minecraft community ! thanks for your response!
It's not the community that's dying, it's your interest in the game that's dying.
Thanks for your response! I would agree to some extent but for the most part I still love the game But i think that it is just the Minecrafters im used to watching has lost a bit of interest themselves so in my head i thought the game was dying.

I'm going to say no because it is shorter then yes.

Once or twice a month? I visit this subsection everyday and this kind of thread comes at least once a week...

Noobs are wrecking the game

What is it with all the unfounded doom and gloom?
