This getting pretty rediculous... Optifine 1.7.2 still isn't out! I'm getting pretty sick of waiting! Usually, optifine will come out with the new update a couple of days when the update is out. But it's been about 3 weeks and still has not updated! What's going on? If you know what is going on, please tell me in the replies, and if you somehow have optifine for 1.7.2, please put the link in the replies, and to whoever tells me what's happening or you sends me a link of optifine, I thank you immensly. Now please take a moment of your time to vote on this poll. Please fill out the poll. This results may come in handy...
Be patient. 1.7 changed 50 thousand lines of code. That means that MCP will have to do a lot of work to update, then optifine will have to do a lot of work.
to be honest, you sound like a spoilt brat. the modders are waiting for MCP to be updated. when that's ready they'll update straightaway, and for free, as they always do.
the world doesn't revolve around you. be patient like the rest of us, or try coding it yourself if you're that bothered.
Optifine NEEDS Minecraft Coder Pack to be updated before it can do anything. This goes for pretty much every Minecraft mod in existence. MCP is due for release in one to two weeks due to Minecraft adding and changing a metric ton of code.

Yup, waiting for Minimap as it helps me a ton when I am doing server stuff.
Optifine is nice but I really don't need all the features so its not my priority to get it.

Why are so many people freaking out? Mojang said they rewrote tons of code. @SeargeDP even cracked on posts like this saying they will put a release date based on how many trollz complained on them being slow. Please take your pacifier and bottle and go away.
Optifine doesn't have to update, you know. The fact that sp614x continues to spend his time updating this mod is a gift to the community. And as someone already mentioned, you sound like a spoiled brat. Now, would you kindly get off of your high-horse?

If you are gonna have so much hate you go make a optifine and see how hard it is! You should be greatful for having the older versions and helping you in the past versions if anything!
I downloaded optifine and it halved my FPS.
I don't care for it.
Optifine actually lowers my FPS as well (with mostly the same settings as vanilla, except smooth chunk loading and smooth FPS on), in 1.6.2, although it is minor and I still get around 60-100 FPS; I use it to eliminate stutter from chunk loading and the chunk rendering bug where you come across chunks that don't render even as new chunks behind them do, as well as to disable fog/void fog (the latter so I can see better in low level caves).
On the other hand, it will probably double my FPS in 1.7.2 because for some reason it runs only half as fast with a lot of stuttering, even when I just turn around, unless I'm in Superflat, yet not much worse in Amplified (presuming that Optifine uses the same rendering methods; I also get a lot of "chunk ticking took too long" errors in the console, which seems to be another issue and/or the cause of the stuttering, 50 FPS otherwise isn't that bad).
Also, I have modded the game myself so I know that it is almost impossible to make a mod without MCP if it involves anything more than changing a constant or two, as I did with the cave generator in 1.7.2 by editing api.class with JBE; however, the class was almost unchanged aside from a couple numbers which were easy to find; I still had to use JAD to decompile the source and then use Windows grep to find the file using text from the 1.6 source code (I doubt this would work well for the mostly rewritten rendering classes). However, I also made a cave/ravine mod in MCP which definitely requires MCP to make it for 1.7.2, with large parts of the code/classes changed and replaced.
Within a few updates, Optifine will be completely obsolete. There has been an FPS increase for many users with each update.
I used to run Optifine, but my FPS in Vanilla has surpassed what I used to get with the mod.
Now with moogminer in charge of rendering at Mojang, expect to see even more FPS boosts in Vanilla. Once the Java switchover occurs, everyone except those with incredibly old (8+ years) machines will benefit.
The creator of optifine had the chance to work with Mojang but turned it down.
Say goodbye to your fake capes. Optifine is a sinking ship.

Do you even realize that Optifine requires MCP, which was made by SeargeDP, who of which now works for Mojang? I'd like to see you work on twenty things at once... Now sit down and wait like the rest of us.
I probably should, though.

Did you tweak the settings to fit the specific needs of your system, or just expect it to run smoothly right out of the box?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
