I ask this because it seems like there are less and less people conversing about the subject, and those who are are generally younger than others. What do you think?

It is true that Minecraft is slightly transient, but all games are really. Everything is. DVDs are great, but they're starting to get phased out completely by instant streaming. Minecraft is still incredibly popular compared to most games, and it will still be "in" for a while after I post this. It's having a great run, and I know I will always love it, even as the computers get too fancy to run it. when I am in a rest home some where, I'll ask my fellow retiree in a rocking chair next to me and say "Hey, do you remember that game Minecraft that was so popular way back when?" There is a chance he won't remember it ('cause you know, mind not being as good as always), but I will, and that's what really matters.
I think it's more that most gamers have it at this point, than a decline of MCs popularity. If you look at the web counter, there are still are a good number of people buying the game each day.
