Seriously, minecraft is ruined. I played since 1.3 beta, and I have seen it change for the worse since the hunger update (1.8). It's no longer about making anything from a little house to a grand castle, it's now about adventure and boss fights and exploring massive abandoned mines.
Minecraft has gone too far with the advent of all the new blocks. These are good for creative, but in my opinion, ruin the survival experience. It's over lavish, mojang is adding things when there is no need.
The upcoming addition of horses and hay is just stupid. What is this, my little pony!? Please don't kill me for saying that
OH GOD NO! This isn't a mod fest!
Endermen, jungles, horses, hay, hunger and bosses may make it more 'interesting' and 'realistic' but now it's lost it's charm of doing what you want, just toddling along from day to day improving your settlement or moving on to a new one.
Have you noticed how let's plays are so different from the original seananners or yogscast (neither of which I particularly enjoyed)? The reason Shadow of Israphael has been canceled is that they were implementing too many ideas and it lost it's charm, just like minecraft.
The ONLY thing I'm excited for the 1.6 update is the launcher update, where you can select any version of minecraft you want. Finally, I can play good ol' 1.3, with my friends, on a server, rather than having to go through the complicated process of finding the .jar file, openmod java and then slapping it altogether.

Discuss below!
I agree completely. I think it should have stayed like early beta. All the carpets and nametags and horses are just plain random.
By the way, how do you change the version of Minecraft in the new launcher?
Thx
I enjoyed MC more when it was jsut a huge game of build whatever you want. the only thing missing now is quests and Minecraft the RPG will be complete. Having mods were great because you could add or remove whatever you wanted, now that they have implimented tons of mostly unwanted extras it's not the game I played in beta.
"the reason Shadow of Israphael has been canceled is that they were implementing too many ideas and it lost it's charm, just like minecraft." 'The Minecraft SOI Series takes alot of time to make new episodes due to the voxel box being outdated and the time it takes to build items, It will probably never be cancelled, it will just take alot of time to make new episodes" - Lewis Brindley of the Yogscast.
Minecraft has watered down alot, though you can just downgrade to Beta 1.7.3 when everything wasnt F'd the heck up the way it is now.
Seriously, minecraft is ruined. I played since 1.3 beta, and I have seen it change for the worse since the hunger update (1.8).
So far out of this all I see are opinion based argument. So far you have only indicated a nostalgia factor is your main point of this thread. But please...continue.
It's no longer about making anything from a little house to a grand castle, it's now about adventure and boss fights and exploring massive abandoned mines.
It never was about making a small house or a grand castle. Minecraft has always been a game about doing whatever you want. Want to build that small house? Go for it. Want to fight bosses? Why not. Everything in the game is optional and always has been, never orienting itself to one playstyle over the other.
Minecraft has gone too far with the advent of all the new blocks. These are good for creative, but in my opinion, ruin the survival experience. It's over lavish, mojang is adding things when there is no need.
Again, Minecraft has never always been about the survival. Why is adding creative aspects so bad for Minecraft? Let's you be able to build new things, requires the need to get new materials. It's not like they are ignoring the survival aspect either. Skeletons have been buffed, horses has been added, zombies are now heat seeking missiles, hunger now works differently, all these changes are survival oriented. Mojang isn't trying to cater to the creative or survival playstyle, but a mix of the two, which is what they have been and are doing perfectly.
The upcoming addition of horses and hay is just stupid. What is this, my little pony!? Please don't kill me for saying that

OH GOD NO! This isn't a mod fest!
What's the point of this argument? Seriously, what is the point? Horses are now some sort of taboo? Please give me one reason why horses are a bad addition. They provide a new means of travel, they also open the opportunities of new minigames. As with all things in Minecraft they are optional to use, don't like them, don't use them.
Endermen, jungles, horses, hay, hunger and bosses may make it more 'interesting' and 'realistic' but now it's lost it's charm of doing what you want, just toddling along from day to day improving your settlement or moving on to a new one.
How in the heck are Endermen and bosses such as an Ender Dragon or Wither in any way shape or form realistic? Earlier you were just complaining about survival being neglected, now you're complaining about the survival aspect. Make up your mind already...
Have you noticed how let's plays are so different from the original seananners or yogscast (neither of which I particularly enjoyed)? The reason Shadow of Israphael has been canceled is that they were implementing too many ideas and it lost it's charm, just like minecraft.
Oh no, certain YouTubers have stopped playing the game. Yeah...it tends to happen when you play one game for far too long, it tends to lose it's touch. This isn't Minecraft exclusively, more like it happens for all games. The older generation leaves while a greater generation arrives in bigger numbers, which is why the Minecraft YouTube scene is still considered one of the largest gaming scenes on YouTube.
The ONLY thing I'm excited for the 1.6 update is the launcher update, where you can select any version of minecraft you want. I think this whole thread is stupid. Sorry if that's offensive, but you have yet to prove why Minecraft is going through a series of downfall. All you have provided is opinion based arguments that hold no merit and have no facts behind them. You want to hear facts? Here are some:
Minecraft is not going through a downfall, no, it's only increasing in popularity. You may think it's going through a downfall, but you are wrong. Your nostalgia mind makes you lose interest of the game, which is fine, it happens to everyone who has played a game for too long, but to make the claim that the game as a whole is dying only because you think it is, is just wrong.
Okay, you can go back to 1.5 if you hate horses and crap but complaining to the Internet won't do crap. Appreciate the FREE updates the Jeb gives us and be satisfied for once in your life.
That's what they every update, even though it's not the case in actuality.
I played since 1.3 beta, and I have seen it change for the worse since the hunger update (1.8). It's no longer about making anything from a little house to a grand castle, it's now about adventure and boss fights and exploring massive abandoned mines.
You can still make a little house or a grand castle. You're not being forced to fight any of the bosses or explore the mineshafts. Turn structures off so you don't even see them at all. That's the joy of the game: You play as you want.
Minecraft has gone too far with the advent of all the new blocks. These are good for creative, but in my opinion, ruin the survival experience. It's over lavish, mojang is adding things when there is no need.
What blocks in particular ruin survival? And what's stopping you from simply ignoring these blocks?

OH GOD NO! This isn't a mod fest!
To say that this has anything to do with a child's show that grown men watch for some reason is just odd. It was a mod fest a long time ago. The lighting engine from b1.3? Mod. New map format from b1.3? Mod. Pistons from b1.7? Mod. There have even been mod ideas put into the game.
Endermen, jungles, horses, hay, hunger and bosses may make it more 'interesting' and 'realistic' but now it's lost it's charm of doing what you want, just toddling along from day to day improving your settlement or moving on to a new one.
What is the huge hate for a bunch of wheat put into a block?
These things certainly made the game more interesting, but certainly hasn't lost it's charm when you take your nostalgia glasses off. And how are bosses and Endermen realistic?
Have you noticed how let's plays are so different from the original seananners or yogscast (neither of which I particularly enjoyed)? The reason Shadow of Israphael has been canceled is that they were implementing too many ideas and it lost it's charm, just like minecraft.
Minecraft wasn't nearly as big as it was back then when Seananners and the Yogscast started. Seananners was practically one of the sparks of the Minecraft Youtube community. Things in their lives change, thus the content in their videos are often affected.
Good, I'm excited for that too. Except I'll enjoy all features that Mojang has put work into.
While Minecraft certainly has a somewhat different feel, I don't think it's at all worse. The new adventurous content doesn't really detract from building; I've been building a lot on my survival world, especially after the Redstone Update. Attribute system? Awesome for mapmakers. Horses? Awesome for explorers. There are plenty of good things going on in this update, and I'd love to see where Mojang is going with future updates.
The upcoming addition of horses and hay is just stupid. What is this, my little pony!? Please don't kill me for saying that
Nope. The horses are mute, have realistic colors, have no powers, can't defeat mobs and have no qualities of rational thought. Besides, a pony update would completely unbalance the game--mostly because Applejack would be the world's best Minecrafter.
I played since 1.3 beta, and I have seen it change for the worse since the hunger update (1.8).
I've been playing since the early stages of Alpha and I have seen hundreds of people wishing for new features and then complaining about them when they were finally added.
It's no longer about making anything from a little house to a grand castle, it's now about adventure and boss fights and exploring massive abandoned mines.
Minecraft is not supposed to be "about" something in particular. Not everybody was in it for the building aspects, and for those who do, Creative mode suits them better.
Endermen, jungles, horses, hay, hunger and bosses may make it more 'interesting' and 'realistic' but now it's lost it's charm of doing what you want, just toddling along from day to day improving your settlement or moving on to a new one.
What is exactly stopping you from toddling along day to day? Of all the things you said, not even one is compulsorily forced unto you. In fact, most of them augment your possibilities of doing multiple things in Minecraft.
I am incredibly tired of these types of threads. Look, if you thin k Minecraft is "ruined" with the new features, just don't use them at all! And, if you think that Minecraft isn't a game about doing whatever you want anymore, then maybe you really need to check out Creative. Just...I'm sick of these threads, OK?! Someone come and lock this now.
Horses are great for adventurers. Carpets and new clay blocks are great for builders. Ruined? Are you kidding? This can be new rise of MC, I think, if Jeb will contnue to improve it in different ways.
I am going to be locking this for redundancy. Threads have already been posted in several variants on why people think minecraft is going downhill or is ruined.

Within the past 24 hours, Minecraft (just PC) has sold 9,576 copies, which is $258,073 worth in 24 hours. Enough to pay for 5 employees for a full year if they were paid $50,000 per year.
On the YouTube Top 100 list, there are about 6 channels that have Minecraft content, 2 of them is Minecraft exclusive (CaptainSparklez, skydoesminecraft), no other exclusive gaming channel makes that list (even Call of Duty surprisingly).

Minecart rails can't be killed and horses can't get themselves into most mine systems.
