Hmm, that's neato. I wonder if the torch will pop off if there's a block update though...

This doesn't work with getting it on the sides of glass though and if you want a torch on top of glass just take a torch out and right click on the glass.

Oh, I never realized that I couldn't do it on the side of the glass. But it won't let you place the torch by right-clicking on the glass
EDIT:Oh, apperently you are right, it must be 1.4.4 thing beacause that never worked before... A day late and a dollar short Sorry about that.
It's rather useless either way. Mobs cannot spawn on transparent blocks, soooo...
It would mostly be for decoration if anything. I thought you could already do this though. Right click on glowstone or some other block that wont let you put torches on it, like another torch, and it gets put on a furnace or a glass block.
So, it is possible to put torches on glass without mods and stuff. I just thought I would share.
This is how P=Piston G=Glass B= Normal block (Such as cobble-stone, wood wooden planks, ect.) T=Torch
T
P G B
Once the piston is powered the torch will be on glass.
NOTE:This does not work on ice or leaves
NOTE 2:This also works w/ a redstone torch.
NOTE 3: To put torches on furnaces do this (F=Furnace):
F G Just make shure that there is one space between the blocks, then place a torch on the glass and it will jump to the furnace.
I hope this is in the right place, I hope it works for you, and I hope I explained it well enough.
Thanks,
Dave

It's been like that since 1.2.1 so a bit more than a day late.
Woah, maybe I just never bothered tring to do it on the TOP of the glass. Thank you for telling me.
