Don't get me wrong. I love minecraft. But, carrots and potatoes? Really?
Where the heck are other weapons? How about shields?
There are some more mobs... but really.. sometimes I question the decisions on what to add to the game that the minecraft team comes up with. I can hardly see how carrots makes the list, but there hasn't been a single weapon added to the game since the beginning. What about the mod api? We delayed that to get carrots?
What more do you need than a sword and a bow?
Combat is easy enough as it is.
There were already many types of food in the game. Using your logic why didn't you just eat apples? Or bread, or melons, or cake, or pork chops, or steak...
If they add new weapons, they must add a new combat system. What's so wrong with getting potatoes and carrots? You say that like we got carrots instead of weapons.

Really Jeb?
Why did you make a thread just to hate on vegetables?

Your point is that combat is already easy enough.... If they added accessories, shields, dual weapons, diff weapons with diff strategies behind them. That would add to combat difficulty. I am happy with any update at all, I have been waiting for this for a month, but seriously whats wrong with wanting new weapons?

How can you add strategy to what ultimately ends up being: who clicks fastest wins?
Carrots and Potatoes were needed because we needed a crop where the thing you plant, harvest and eat is the same. If you don't know what I mean, in case of Melons, you plant Melon Seeds, harvest a Melon Block and eat the slices. Potatoes and Carrots are really simple and don't require crafting to eat it or a separate seed to plant it.

The point wasn't to hate on veggies. I love veggies as much as the next guy. The point wasn't to say weapons was the thing they needed to add. The point is there was already tons of food and veggies, why invest more time into them now when other areas of the game are still barren?
I think the last patch was right on target. We got all the stair variations, upside down placing, half blocks fleshed out and fixed. That's great, new useful stuff. Carrots and potatoes really don't bring anything new (except pig riding? Also noting that saddles still can't be crafted.)
I also love the new mobs in this patch. They should add 4 or 5 mobs at least to every patch.
The mod api has been on the table for a LONG time. It was planned for several releases, and still hasn't made it. Mojang hired the bukkit team to make the mod api. They've been there quite some time, and still yet no mod api. The mod community adds tons of content that should be in the base game, and yet here we are nearly a year after release and still no mod api. This means after release server are empty.
The point here is that the Mojang team has serious development ADD. I would love to see them develop a focused road map to where they are going and stick with it, rather than released what seems like fractured random features that seem to be dreamed up on a whim.
Looking at mods like Better than wolves, buildcraft, ic2 etc... we can clearly see that tons of depth can be added to the game. And these were all developed by people working in their spare time and not as their full time job.

How would making more weapons make it any more difficult?
At most, I'd say combat would stay the same difficulty.

I was going to pipe up but this fella summed up my thoughts perfectly. I don't see how new weapons would add anything to the game except for visual effect. The combat just consists of wild clicking followed by sprinting away. A new weapon, or a shield, or what have you wouldn't add to anything except, "Oh look, I'm sprinting with a mace!" as opposed to, "I'm sprinting with a sword!"

Life is not measured in the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
New weapons would be useless. Diamond swords and bows can two-hit pretty much every mob you encounter. Until you actually have to stop to fight a mob because they have dangerous enchantments and can't just kill them on your way like stepping on a bug I don't think it matters if you step on the bug with a sword or a mace or some other contrived tool.

All the food has different hunger values.

Check out some of the popular weapon mods. Which have different damage, reach and knock back values.
Or how about the mod api?
I've seen them all. I really feel we don't need anymore weapons. As I've stated, combat is already too easy.

Stop yer damn complaining. Small additions like carrots and potatoes liven the game in ways you may not see.

It's been delayed for 1.5 (Sadly) But the longer we wait, the better it's gunna be.

This is great.
On a second note, I like the new farmables, need more to farm. Everything else is getting old

Which I think has nailed my sentiment on recent minecraft development.
