Its pretty clear that Minecraft is growing in popularity. But you know what sucks? Its a game that the developers will never be satisfied with. Aka it will have stuff constantly added to it. Now, that sounds good, right? It very well may be, but if you have foresight you will know where I'm going with this. The cold hard truth is that when the game is considered complete, it will be dead. I mean lets face it. Good games are games you can play for years and still have the best time ever playing them. Well, Minecraft clearly is not that game if the developers feel that they need to constantly add more features to it in order to make sure we don't get bored. And to be honest, this game does get boring. The only way to make it fun is to find a unique multiplayer server. But guess what, they are not worth playing on since 1. The administrators are usually not sustainable. 2. The updates kill the servers when people can't play on them anymore, thus they go down for good. The other way to make it more fun is to mod the crap out of your client. This can be a good solution, but I don't really consider it involved in my argument because the player had to make the game more fun themselves. Maybe its me, but maybe it is truly the game, but I am predicting the downfall of minecraft in the next year. Its losing simplicity, but at the same time its losing the attention span of players.
I predict the opposite. You are implying that the devs are never happy with the game and keep adding. But thats definatly not how the player feels. I for one have been playing minecraft since late alpha. And you know what? i play it twice as much now. Why? Because the stuff being added allows for more happy fun time. And servers dont always go down for good. If yours are, then your playing on the wrong servers. A server i have been playing has been going strong and hard for almost 2 years now. still keeps a player retention of 100 online.
To be honest, Its a cult classic type of game really. A game like this really doesn't "die". Granted the masses will lose interest eventually. But i suspect this will be a game of generations rather than just a single one. Reason being? Because it literally has limitless possibilities. As long as it is able to be endlessly modded, which I don't think will ever change, it will never truly die *shrugs*
You know if you're a troll. You my friend are a bad troll. The fact is the game can go on forever. Even if it stops, let's think about it this way - Minecraft Mods & Servers. If it is correct that 1.4 is going to screw up server well then. We lost pretty much half our community do to Mojangs fault.
In the other hand. We have mods. They will keep the game going & fresh for years. So i don't think the game will ever go down. If it does we will always and I bet this is true. Have at least 1 million + players playing the game at all time.
As in the servers. Find a better server the ones you are finding are complete ****. As in Lostshard? Well custom plugins active admins no cheating. Basically no rules except exploits or mods that give you an advantage are aloud. Servers only go down if the creator wants to stop paying 100+ dollars a month to keep it going 24/7 or stop playing the game or the server becomes inactive.

Every game will die. It's natural. Usually it's when an expansion/sequel is released, but every game will die.
Mojang does not update Minecraft "just so we don't get bored." Minecraft is a sandbox game. Sandbox games promote evolution (See: EVE Online). It allows open play and it allows people to go through the game at their leisure and/or style. Updating a sandbox game gives people more options, more ways to play. Do you look at LEGO company and say, "Your toy was not worth playing with after you released the red blocks because I had to take my constructions apart to add the red blocks in"? No, you take apart your Millennium Falcon and you add your red blocks and go on your merry way.
Same concept.

Life is not measured in the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
There are almost 7 million people playing MC right now.
(Well not right now because the servers crashes D:)
The game has mods. Servers. A community that would take the files of Minecraft and continue the project until the game actually dies.
I'd say we got a good 10 years.
