So I am relatively new to this npc village update and the forums altogether. However I do have one questions I hope can be answered. Is it possbile to start my own npc village? where i could possbily build a house and a npc will enter it and claim it or something? Doing this instead of looking for a village would be pretty cool, especially seeing npc villagers building a town in the jungle.
In toomanyitems there is a villager egg, thats what im trying (i was also wondering the same thing) so far I only have 1 villager after I make more houses ill put more down and see if they will have kids
I build a village and spawn (with Too many items) a couple of villagers to start a new village... I have already make an existing village grow (with villagers breeding, etc), so I know how to build houses and the "door/villager" relation...
... but the spawned villagers, in my "own" town, are NOT breeding...
So, i'm inclined to think that you CAN'T start a village on your own or, in other words, even if you spawn villagers in it they would not breed.
Maybe, as RicochetOrange said, you can make it work expanding other town or having a runaway pathway forcing villagers to inmigrate.
I haven't tried to do either of those two... and I find the first option (with a little plus: destroying a portion of the town so you can have two separate villages [MEIOSIS phase 1 , HELL YEAH {kind of... XD }]) a little timeconsuming.
Downside of my experiment:
I build every house of this new village with: Lapislázuli (i'm from Chile, one of the few countries where you can find that mineral... so... hell yeah XD ... and I like blue... ), Iron blocks, Diamond blocks and glass. Wooden doors as always.
Only materials restrictions that I know are for doors (only wooden doors), and the villagers spawned didn't seems to dislike the lapislazuli (HELL YEAH!!!)... but... damn... could that be the reason why the aren't breeding? am i forced to build only with cooblestone, wood and woodenplanks?
I hope this is usefull
Sorry about my english if it's too... strange, to say the least XD I speak spanish and not acostumed to write in english.
You actually CAN make your own village. You need to be on creative or have a mod. You have to build a lot of houses. Start with two, and with eight or nine houses (doors) they can repopulate. I am doinfg this on creative and it works with enough houses. They mate, and you have your own village! I think after 15 villagers iron golems might spawn, but I created my own. I have six houses, a grand hall, a stable, a library, a blacksmith area, and a church. All that totals to 13 doors (some with two doors). It is enough to get me four villagers but I have three so far, two farmers and a kid priest.

Villagers can breed in user created towns, and its not the lapis lazuli.

Strangely enough, i keep building and nothing happened... UNTIl I kill the two villagers i had and spawn new ones... then, they start to breed.
Thxs! don't know what I did wrong. Maybe you should start building a lot of houses and then place the villagers.
Actually, yeah; as percy_jackson101 said, as of recent updates, it is possible to create your own villagers in survival mode. All you need is a brewing stand, some resources, and a golden apple. First, find one of the new zombie villagers (they have a 5% chance of spawning, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one. Then, get yourself a splash potion of weakness (first infuse a fermented spider eye, then gunpowder with a phial of water). Splash the zombie, then get your golden apple out, and right click on the zombie. He should now be emitting red swirlies and shivering slightly. After a bit, he becomes a regular villager, and will take to your village.
Now, once you have this villager, creating a village is a bit trickier. To get a decent population, you gotta have lots of buildings. Each building represents 0.35 villagers. So, the stable population of your village will be 0.35*No. Buildings. But, this is a lot less tricky than it seems. Each building only needs to be a single door with at least one building block at the same height within thirty blocks. This makes it easy to make apartments for villagers or even villager breeders, with massive amounts of doors. All that your village is limited to is your own creativity.
One last note. I got most of my information from the minecraft wiki page, and I would advise checking it out if you are ever stuck; it is a very useful tool.http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki
Maybe you could build some forced pathway that forces villagers to flee from Zombies to the area of your choosing?
