Minecraft is the only game I know with generated terrain and interesting game play that the player can reshape to his wishes. Only the generated terrain has become repetitive. There is no other place to go.
I am a survivalist. I would be extremely happy if these changes take place. I don't expect giant caves to disappear, but rather become less common. The remaining caves will become harder.
Builders who like relatively flat terrain shouldn't become unhappy because there would still be flat terrain.
Nobody is asking for everything to be filled with random hills, just that random hills exist.
Most people just don't understand what variation is, or don't care, the latter knows that the beta terrain has more variation, and that the seeds basically were only the awesome and crazy overhangs and valleys (Gargamel, Canyon of Woah, etc) and use that as an excuse saying that variation will spam mountains everywhere, just to hise the fact that they can't deal with different opinions, or just want things to suit them, even if it costs other ppls happinessm while the generator we propose will cater to EVERYONE, you will just have to search for an area you like, unlike now, where everything is basicaly the same. And this excuse works, as most people here are <15 and don't have a sense of opinion, and can be easly convinced to support one side, or the other, in this case, they are very easly convinced to support the New Terrain Supporters, as there is basicaly no effort for convincing these people to support the Proposed Generator, except for this threads, but as most of these people barely reads the OP, they think it's just a rant, instead of a well though post, and an ACTION, as opposed to everybody else in this Forum.
This basicaly sums up all the drama, and why all name calling, fanboy-ism, and hating, by BOTH sides.

There is another thing I noticed from the terrain. Lakes on deserts appear way too often. I mean, I just walked like 3 KM of desert (large biomes) and I came up upon hundreds of tiny lakes. It shouldn't even be called desert since deserts are known for dryness and not for it's sheer amount of lakes. It technically shouldn't be desert since there's way too much water to be even called a desert.
Speaking of what seems the topic here, variation =/= no flat terrain. If what we're speaking is "No flat lands" then we would be contradicting ourselves since the main point of this thread is, in part, about the removal of extreme hills. If we were talking about "No flat lands" we would be saying: "Extreme hills everywhere". We're not talking about spamming mountains. We're talking about variation of height. If everything was flat, it would be boring. If everything was full of random (insertbiomenamehere)hills, it would be boring. We're talking about the possibility of mountains forming anywhere. Not about mountains everywhere.

The height limits were INCREASED at one point, in case you didn't notice, so mountains can generate higher. The new generation formula prevents ridiculous mountain generation from occurring to increase your chances of survival, not to mention that the player is supposed to be the one to create huge towers and whatnot. A few tall mountains would be nice, sure, but it's also easier to find land where you can build a house that doesn't hang over the edge of a cliff, too.
Beaches may be sandy in real life, but Minecraft is meant to be fictional and realistic together. Beaches don't really need to be like they are in our world. And dirt beaches occur in real life, too, so there needn't be sand on every single beach. Gravel beaches seem strange, so why would they be in Minecraft? Besides, I've seen plenty of fine beaches in the terrain generation. You must be very unlucky to get "beach" features like those, but it is no reason to blame the terrain generation algorithm.

Have you ever seen a Mushroom biome in real life? I think not. So, don't go around complaining about things like this. A few people may not like it, but who says they're being forced to play Minecraft? If they don't like it, they can go find a mod for it, or simply stop playing it. As for those of us who do like the new terrain, we get along with our worlds. I think we'll manage just fine.

Large caves make it easier to find diamonds... Also the reason they were hard to come by is because there was variation. The reason they were harder to find was because they were allowed to spawn in all sorts of sizes. If youve ever played survival island you would know how big that cave was. Bigger doesnt always mean better.

Yet mountains dont take full advantage of that height. I havent seen any mountains go above block 128. How does mountain generation have anything to do with survival? It was easy to build houses that dont hang over cliffs in beta terrain too.

First off, I actually agree with most of the stuff suggested in the topic, excluding caves and how evil plains biomes are. To me, giant caves are pretty cool, my survival world is based around one.
We're not asking to completely get rid of massive caves, we just want them to be rarer and mixed in with smaller ones for variety, which is the spice O' life.

I'm also starting to think that the current generator should be added in as another worldtype so the people who genuinely like the current terrain can still have their worlds.
I'm also tired of the basic if you don't like it play something else refrain. I do like it still, that's why I'm still playing. But I'm playing it less because the excitement of exploring has been hugely decreased with this bland, average terrain. And realism comments can be argued any which way - either that the game isn't that realistic anyway or that the real world has far more interesting terrain than this game does.

This is absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH REALISM. It's about making Minecraft worlds look good (realistic or not - who cares, just aesthetically pleasing will do) and making them exiciting to explore beacuse of variation (so any and every type of terrain can be found in any biome type in any world, if you go looking for it).
We don't want to deprive you of your board flat land for building on. We want to keep that AND also be able to find mountains and everything in between in ALL types of biome. A Minecraft world is a very big place. There is room for everything in abundance.
Some folk just don't have the imagination or experience to realise that what they're getting is substandard. And it's not just Minecraft, you see it with all manner of products. The general public really depress me sometimes with their pure ignorance of quality.
And have you ever actually been to the seaside? If gravel beaches seem strange, then what do you make of this? A natural pebble beach with all sizes of stones from gravel up. You must now be amazed.
Sadly I believe that the optimal solution, that would please everyone, can only be a screen where, like settings, you decide what you want your world to look like. Think of more/less caves, size varieties, height fluctuations, checking biomes on and off, biomes blending etc. Even then, not everyone is ever going to be happy about it but it would hand a whole lot more options.
Sliders, Dinnerbone 'confirmed' sliders, but we still do not know what those slider would consist of...
