Hello All, I was Kongregate today (3/26/2011) and I saw a game called "Cubelands" it's a TOTAL rip-off of MineCraft. People were commenting on how it was a copy of Minecraft. But, people would just rate thier comments down. I would rate them up, of course. But it's just really upsetting when people are copying Minecraft. I mean, is that even legal?!
Post what you think of this Noob that's ripping off MineCraft. (BTW, the game is made by M2Hgames) No, it's not a game development group, it's just one guy, ripping off Minecraft.
But really check out how much of a rip-off it is. Kongregate.com. The game is under the Unity game section. It's called (Once again) Cubelands.
That's what I thought. Even though it has no monsters. It's pretty dang HD. It has almost 2,000,000 plays. which is really what I thought was scary. I still know Notch will slay it with Minecraft which is FAR better.
Notch/Mojang do not own the copyright to "Block based building games"
Call of Duty is a rip off of WWII.

The next time an authority asks me, "What could possibly have given you such a lack of respect for the value of human life?" I will respond, "Sir, have you even BEEN to the internet?"
Copycatting is approvable because you never know how good of a game will come out :smile.gif: Just look at the history of games. From Diablo to Deus Ex, from Crysis to Battlefield 1942, from Fallout to Mass Effect and especially WoW every single good game has been copycatted. And sometimes it brings out good games like Titans Quest (Diablo), the first two CoD's (BF1942) and Baldur's Gate (Fallout). The fact is that good developers sometimes need guidance at first before making their first throughly original game.
Exactly. When people saw early tests of Fortresscraft they kept complaining how much of a rip-off it was to Minecraft. However, Minecraft was a clone of Infiniminer itself in it's very early stage of development. Now, people could use the argument that Minecraft is now extremely different to infiniminer. That is true, yet like I said, Minecraft started out as a clone. Give Fortresscraft time to develop like everyone gave minecraft time to develop, and it could be a completely different game. The same could be said for cubelands.

Well, WW2 is a historical event, it wasn't made and patented. So now I guess you "Copy Cat defenders" are going to say that every FPS is a rip-off of Doom?! (Azathoth Lives, I'm not calling you one.)
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
WHY WE GET THE SAME DARN THREAD OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN?!
notch = ok with clones
NOTCH DID NOT PATENT THE GENRE!
JUST LET GAMES BE, THE MORE YOU HATE, THE MORE FAMOUS THEY GET!

every FPS is, just reskinned, with a diff story, diff enemies, but at the roots... they are all the same, just that those roots are easier to see on this genre...
Ever stop and think that maybe these people think they can do better than Notch? Let's be honest Notch hasn't done anything absolutely impressive with his coding or time. I'm not bashing Notch but I am saying that there are people out there that can do a better job. It's certainly not me.

Ok, fair point, but Notch himself has said he doesn't mind clones, as long as they don't claim to be minecraft. And, cubeworld, forestcraft, and others don't do most of the time.

But yeah, they'll just fade away and die with the reputation of a game stealer.
Thanks for the posts!

Fortresscraft maybe?
This. It will probably eventually happen, and sooner than we may think if Notch is keeping update like the latest days...
Still, none of those games would exist without Minecraft( That on itselft wont exist withs Infiniminer...)

Um, you say it like a flash game has no chances to triumph over a indie game.
