I was tinkering with an idea of making an aquarium in my home on Minecraft. Filled with squids, of course. My question is - can Squid spawn in 'unnatural' waters (I.E - created with buckets of water)? If so, how deep/wide would this aquarium have to be?
Squid will spawn in water that is 3+ blocks deep, I believe. Not sure about how wide it would need to be, but if you're creating an aquarium I don't think you'll need to worry about that.
Squids are bugged, I'm convinced. The only patch they worked on that I can remember was the original 1.2 patch. They spawned regularly in all bodies of water, just like how you see sheep and cows everywhere on grass, you'd see squids everywhere in water bodies. Since then, I think I haven't seen a single squid in any of my worlds. Maybe they still rarely spawn under certain conditions, but something is up.
I run a little private SMP server with my friends, and even though I'm heavily opposed to using the "give" command, I'm going to have to for black ink.
Best place for an aquarium: The Nether... For some reason I don't understand, they spawn everytime I make water (out of ice) in the nether. Took away the water, and now 15 squids are rolling on the floor
Hey, I think it shouldnt be hard. I make a good quantity of ultra-grinders, and I hate squids. they clog up the machinery when they spawn in the water troughs. they dont even get killed by my grinders. But what I do no is that they are REALLY easy to spawn. they just need one empty/water block above them, and one water block where they spawn. but if you put the aquarium near something that has a lot of mobs in/near it, the squids wont spawn because the spawned items per chunk limit has been reached. an example is a mob trap system or grinder.

It does that because there are no other places for squids to spawn in the nether. Once you give them a place to spawn, they will.

Also, do minecart boosters no longer work?
Thanks.

can't control squid spawning.

they're in deep water but its dark so They're hard to see
If there is no deep water for them to spawn in they will spawn in shallows.
I am on a map and have a shallow lake outside my house. No other water nearby. They spawn in there. It is somewhere around 3 or 4 deep at the deepest.

I thought water doesn't work in the Nether...
Oh. By that you meant HAX. Thanks for clearing that up.
But good luck, it should work easily.
PS. do you know of any mods that REMOVE squids?
you mean ice?
It does that because there are no other places for squids to spawn in the nether. Once you give them a place to spawn, they will.
