All the houses/rooms I see are so perfect. All the furniture is perfect size and location, nothing is too crowded and/or empty. How do they do that? Every time I make a house, I either run out of room for planned furniture and everything becomes so crowded I have no walking room, or I have lots of empty space and asymmetric. Empty space can be fixed, but then it looks ugly.
Well I don't really have a guide...
But how other people build they're houses are
1. They are experienced or get help
2. They have the same troubles as you, but they just expand the house
3. They use MCEDIT which is a 3rd party program to make structures or terrain and stuff like that
Plan ahead! Don't just throw blocks down where you think it'll work out, map out what you want to do before you do it. Pen/paper are your friends! That or some kind of voxel software

He does have a point, make an outline of ur house, then make the places or furniture in the outline, and if it looks good, build it w/ the outline

Yeah that's probably the more organized way to do things in Minecraft and it's kinda of an all around thing. But personally I find that, that method is EXTREMELY boring for me and some others. Usually I build really poopy things though but I get something nice once in awhile and it's not through careful planning and detailing.
I just kinda look at other designs and sometimes real houses or structures and build something similar or use them for inspiration. Ya know, "hmm that looks good here, oh and that would mix well with this." Plus, you start gaining experience over time and it jus comes naturally. Specially if you jus walk around in some nice multiplayer servers, your eye kinda adjusts.
Noooow! When you're actually building things make sure you have room to adjust things because even if you plan out your creations they might and probably will look different when you're actually building. Make sure to get a certain room as furnished as possible cause you don't want to have to be removing everything later on. Oh, and even if you're think that you're done with a project, you aren't. You can always make small add ons :biggrin.gif:
What do you want to put in your house? How much walking space do you want to have between everything? Beds take 6 spots, chairs take 1, benches maby 2-3, lamps hang down off the ceiling about 2 meters. The number 1 thing is really just to plan ahead enough. The #2 thing is to improvise when needed. There's always the option of adding some flower pots or book cases to fill up space.
I use a painting program (such as Paint) for my Creative structures. Use grid, and plan where you want the blocks. Use various colors, like dark grey for smooth stone, or a lighter grey for cobblestone. Red for red wool/lava, maybe even brown for planks/logs. It helped me a lot of times. Hopefully, it'll help you too.
I frame out my home first, outlining the walls, doorways, etc. That way, if I have to tear down a wall, I only have to tear down a single column of blocks. :ohmy.gif:) Once I'm content with the framework and floor plan, then I fill everything in. I do leave space on certain walls to expand with extra rooms later, should the need arise.
TL;DR How to make a perfect house?

For size problems, don't be afraid to knock down walls and rebuild them where you need them.
Minecraft is creative art, so not all constructs are going to be equal.

2. Prototyping with Dirt
3. sometimes Drawing some or all of it on Graph Paper (I always have a pad on a clipboard near me. Used for a lot more then MC).
4. and then Repeated Renovation until it's perfect
