Isn't it people that pre-ordered during Alpha received the game 50% off, and all future "expansions" for free, and people that pre-ordered during beta received 25% off the game, and have to purchase all future content?

"We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change. A promise is a promise.
Buying the game during beta will include all updates up until release, of course, and bug patches will be free."

Buying during beta, you will not get expansions for free.
I'll never understand how people can be so dense, you go to the store and spend 200 bucks on a chair you probably can't ever return because of the fine print. You buy a 20 dollar game and you have to go rocket science on forum rumors and assume you're gonna get boned if you buy a game sold to a million+ other people.

Not exactly, he just took this promise out meaning he can charge beta players for a quick buck he he wants to, but this doesn't mean he will, but he now has the power to do so.
He may give beta players a free addon or something, but he's not going to make the mistake of promising it like he did for alpha players, which was a huge misjudgement on his part, and he knows it.
You've got a point. But knowing Notch he will charge wherever he can. He goes a little further by saying specifically saying "up until release" which makes me believe beta customers will not receive any future content for free. Possibly a discounted price or something though.

Derp.
Any of this is coming off as rocket science to you? Yikes.

Yes, they're being particularly investigative, and taking every word for what possible 100+ meanings it could have.
Like i said, go buy that chair, the store manager is probably taking a bath in your money and about to use your credit card to buy a yacht, and you're worried about people saying a bunch of nonsense like you'll have to 'rebuy the game.'
You meaning hypothetical you of course, whoever is worried.

We're only trying to clear up a somewhat convoluted buying scheme. Notch hasn't gone into depth on exactly how future purchases will be handled, that's why there is some speculation. Nothing more.
We're only trying to clear up a somewhat convoluted buying scheme.
Convoluted? I must have be gifted then or something because when I decided to take a look at minecraft, I:
1. did a google search for it
2. found minecraft.net
3.read http://www.minecraft.net/prepurchase.jsp; I think my curious side even ventured me into the "Copyright Information" link.
4. Made perfect sense to me. Of course, if it didn't, and I somehow felt that the hour of work I had to do to get the 15 dollars that it cost to buy it justified further investigations, I might do the unthinkable and not buy it until I understood it. That's the problem. people buying first, and asking questions later is almost as ridiculous as not being able to read the clear, simple english that is used to answer those questions. It's not in legalese. The "buying scheme" only appears convoluted because you've decided to ask a bunch of 14 year olds what the scheme is.

I should also mention there's about a billion topics on this, search would pull it up in two seconds.

Well, you've missed my point entirely. What I was referring to was how Notch plans on distributing expansions in the future. Nowhere does Notch say exactly how he's going to do it. I was never claiming that the actual buying process is difficult. I was speculating on what might happen with future content, as IT IS NOT EXPLAINED PROPERLY BY ANYONE OF ANY AUTHORITY ON THE MATTER. Please don't tell me to search the forums for it, because it doesn't exist. The closest thing we have to a real explanation is Notch's blog, and it's somewhat vague.
I don't care either way. I purchased in Alpha, and I have the money to buy anything else Notch wants me to buy. I'm just trying to help answer a question.

That's not really what the thread is about though, everyone takes this silly approach to the idea, thinking that they have to re-buy the game when it goes release or something. For how unknown expansions are at this point in time, you don't -have- to buy them if we have any either.

Yeah the thread derailed slightly. No I agree it's silly the idea of re-buying the game when it's released. Only reason I brought up expansions at all was because the second poster told the op that people that bought during Alpha get 50% off the future content. May not be what he meant, but that kind of what it sounded like to me. I was just trying to make it clear that it appears the future of the game is going to be somewhere along the lines of how I outlined it earlier.
Stupid thing to argue over, but what else goes on in the minecraft forums?
What you get for purchasing
Please note that Minecraft is currently a work in progress and NOT a finished product! The sandbox mode available right now. However, you may buy a discounted beta account today, which will also include the full game!
As we at Mojang continue to release more complete builds of the game, we will also be reducing the discount gradually until we reach the final version and full price of the product. So the earlier you buy, the better value you get! Although we are very passionate about this project, we cannot guarantee that it will be completed - that's why we offer the discounted price When you purchase the game, you pay for it as it is right now. Future updates are an added bonus.
The rumor about if you buy it during beta, you will have to pay monthly in the future?
Right now, I have Minecraft Alpha v.1.0.15 [free], and I really want to buy the game.
Note: I have a Visa Gift Card with $25 on it, and I couldn't buy minecraft earlier because apparently Visa Gift Cards are American only.
People who preordered during Beta recieve the Beta and Full release for the 25% off price. They'll have to pay for content packs if they want them.
People who buy after full release have to pay full price, and pay for content packs if they want them.
