Something that some people could do is upload their Pre-classic .dat files online so that other people can install their worlds.
Unfortunately, it's a little bit complicated.
Install a Map
The first thing you want to do is create a new profile. To do this, click on the New Profile button in the lower left corner of the Minecraft Launcher (currently v1.5.3).
You should get a very large dialog. Step 1: Set your profile name to whatever map your installing, so that it's easy to find.
Set your profile name to whatever map your installing, so that it's easy to find.
Click on the Game Directory button, and set it to something along the lines of /Users/<usernamehere>/Minecraft Directories/<mapnamehere>, or whatever it is for Windows. Make sure that Minecraft Directories and <mapnamehere> are existing folders!
Click on the Allow use of old "Alpha" Minecraft versions button. It'll warn you about how it could kill your world files and stuff, but that's why we set a new game directory; problems like that won't happen to us. Click on yes.
Now click on the Use version: button. Set it to whatever game version that it said on the map download; I'd suggest old_alpha rd-161348 if you want to build things. If you can't find the version, it should be on the very bottom of the list (or above Forge-versions, if you've installed that). Then click on OK.
Run it once, then press the escape key to quit.
Open up your <mapnamehere> folder. Inside, delete the level.dat. Drag in the level.dat that you downloaded from the map page; if it isn't named level.dat, rename it as that.
Click on the play button in MCLauncher!
Making and Uploading a Map
Repeat the above, up to step 5 and a half (quit).
Build your map. Left-click to place, WASD (or arrow keys) to move, right-click to break (two fingers on a mac trackpad, control doesn't work). R key to respawn.
Click on the escape key to save and quit.
Open up your Minecraft directory, and upload the level.dat to a file uploader such as filedropper.com.
Make a forum post about your map, and link the file download.
Wait. Maybe somebody will see the map, maybe (like me) somebody won't.
For eggsample, try installing this map that I created in 161348 classic. It's my Random World of General Builds, featuring a giant grass block, a cobblestone castle, a wooden plains, etc. Hold R to get to a random place in it.
(It would be sooooo nice if somebody could sticky this )
