Added pictures to the Harbour section showing the most recent development there
The City of Tanwell. A bustling sea-trade city filled to the brim with merchant ships from all over the land - and indeed the sea! Tanwell is securely and safely walled by a massive wall that reaches over 25 metres high at certain points! The harbour is home to many docked ships and trading merchants from the East Blacklance Trading Company to Lichaan Metal Ltd. There are many shops and services including a Blacksmiths, Fishery and even the looming Tanwell Gallows! At the moment the harbour is the only district of the city in full working order with the Residential District about to enter construction and Castle Tanwell still in the planning process. Please enjoy viewing the pictures I have posted here as well as the lore.
The Lore mentioned here was inspired by the likes of videogames such as The Elder Scrolls series and the Dragon Age series. The initial idea, I got from viewing Fabian9696's "Kingdom of Calderia" - a current work in progress. Please also check out his creation here!

UPDATE #1 (06/04/12)
Started this topic showing the harbour district of Tanwell. The other districts have yet to be started.
A zoomed-out shot of the harbour district (the only district so far). This shot shows more of the built up area, in-land with the start of the piers branching off from the shore. One of the 2 shipping cranes loading cargo from ships into the storage bays. The village butcher giving a smile. The shipyard and docks can be seen in the background. With the lighthouse only semi-rendered (sorry about that!).The worn path from the walled entrance of the city to the docks and the ships beyondTanwell's largest ship (at the moment!), "The Red Gale". This took about 8 hours to build! The Tanwell lighthouse overlooking the docks and a small stilt house. The "Delving Helmsman" shipwreck can be seen here as well. The back end of "The Wandering Hangman" and its coal-fueled furnace engine.

THE LORE OF TANWELL
The Tale of Conus Ulfgeir On 1st Age: 699, Conus Ulfgeir is born, the 1st son of Tuord Ulfgeir, a noble baron of the Kingdom of Alscentia on the continent of Tirraan. The Ulfgeir family are wealthy nobles of Alscentia, Conus was born into the family and lived at the Ulfgeir Estate - Bramburn - until he reached 22 years of age. He was raised by his father Tuord Ulfgeir and his Mother Chryna Ulfgeir as well as a select handful of servants and carers that the family employed. Conus was Tuord's first born son in 1A: 699 with Jorgulf Ulfgeir, 2nd born son in 1A: 702 and daughter Peigh Ulfgeir born in 1A: 706.
At this time Conus was 7 years of age and attending private tutoring at Bramburn Estate. Tuord headed many Alscentian Legions into battle against the enemy Ideir Battalions in the wars over Tirraan's cities and free-land. It was when Conus was 19 (1st Age: 718) that Tuord Ulfgeir was killed in battle whilst leading a battalion of 700 men against the forces of Fort Tydale where an army of 430 Ideir soldiers fought against them. Tuord was struck down by several arrows that pierced his neck and torso, the Alscentian's won the battle but Tuord succumbed to his wounds just hours after the fort was declared Alscentian property. 2 years after Tuord's death in 1st Age: 720, Conus (at the legitimate age of 21) took head of his family. By this time Jorgulf was 18, studying advanced engineering and architecture at Tinn University in Blacklance and Peigh was only 14 and learning from her Mother, still at Bramburn. In late 720 the war against The Kingdom of Ideir had ceased, with Alscentia in control of 49% of the land in Tirraan and Ideir left battered and shamed with just 24%.
Conus left Bramburn Estate for good in 1st Age: 721 when he told his family that he wanted to explore the world and see what it had to offer. Conus took his good friend Remmus O'Moren with him after they had discussed travelling around and seeing places that no-one had seen before. The Ulfgeir family had many ships to its name and being head of the family Conus decided to take the best ship he had in his possession, The Jewel of Alscentia, and set sail. It is recorded that Conus, O'Moren, 32 men and 6 women set sail from the port town of Alcanta nearest to the south-shores of Tirraan. 8 days later, the ship is recorded to have been boarded by pirates that patrolled the Sea of Tirraan. It is said that the pirates boarded from all-sides armed with an assortment of swords, cutlasses, scimitars and the like. Everybody aboard The Jewel of Ascentia was killed apart from Conus Ulfgeir, 2 male crew members and 2 women. The ship was looted and burned to a cinder. The 5 remaining crew members were imprisoned on the pirate ship (the name of which is unknown) for several weeks. Both women and one of the men died of exhaustion and starvation in the second week of imprisonment.
The pirate galleon was manned by several dozen pirates and over the days Conus and the others were held there, many other travelling ships were ransacked, all valuables taken and their crews murdered save a small group of hostages that were imprisoned. Records state that there were around 30 prisoners on the ship at the time it was nearing a large beach, which was soon to be the birthplace of Tanwell, on the eastern coastline of the continent of Ealdyr. When the ship docked on the mainland, Conus is said to have led a valiant revolt against the pirates, dominating them and eventually taking over control of the ship with a crew of himself, 14 men and 7 women. From there, Conus had no idea where in the world he was and needed to set up a camp to rest for the night. This, is how Tanwell was born... Tanwell's Birth It was on that barren shoreline on the east coast of Ealdyr that Conus Ulfgeir decided to build a few 'temporary' buildings to provide comfort for his new-found friends. Only one of the men (Baerth Liet) he actually knew as he had survived the original attack on The Jewel of Alscentia. All of them looked up to Conus as he had saved them from a possible death and freed them from the grip of the Sea of Tirraan Pirates that had imprisoned them. They all listened to Conus and eventually with the help of Baerth as his 'right-hand man' they had constructed several soundly built houses. Conus and the other 21 stayed here for 2 months until early 1st Age: 722. By then, farms had been constructed and the people were beginning to get into a daily life-cycle. Conus Ulfgeir named the settlement he had managed to construct, Tanwell and continued to expand the hamlet outwards. 2 whole years later in 1st Age: 724, Conus Ulfgeir turned 25 and news of Tanwell had spread through the continent. The capital kingdom of Ealdyr was The Kingdom of Penric home to the city of Reyyin Tor built on top of a massive rocky outcrop. There the leading governing body of Ealdyr, The Pommel decided to evaluate Tanwell. In late 1st Age: 724, Tanwell was declared an official settlement of Ealdyr. Tanwell continued to grow until a pinnacle event in Tanwell's history occured in 1st Age: 731 when Conus Ulfgeir was 32 years of age...
I hope enjoyed looking at pictures of Tanwell and reading about the Lore which I have put a lot of work into creating. If you have the time please take a moment to leave a thought and tell me what you think of Tanwell and if you have any suggestions on how I can improve it or what to build next. Thank you.
That's pretty awesome work dude. I really like your architectural style. You could try adding some clutter around the docks (not too much) too make it look as though they are in use e.g. crates (as though they are imported goods/goods to be exported) and fishing nets (don't know how you would do it but it's an idea :P).
Thanks, great ideas!, I'll be sure to implement the ideas you mentioned! Not sure how I'd do the nets but i'm sure I'll find a way lol.
It's okay. To be honest I'm not sure why people aren't all over this thread already because it's great work and normally everyone is commenting on stuff like this. They'll hopefully be more people on later because I hate it when good work goes unrecognised.
This is very very cool. You should put an updated map file every time you update so people can explore it in-game. Looking at pictures is nice, but it's not nearly as awesome as exploring it in 1st person.
