This is mainly to the aspiring minecraft builders out there who develop amazing structures and architectual feats through the newly-added creative mode. I, myself, love to make buildings in minecraft. Houses, schools, churches, whatever I feel like building. But, sometimes I feel like my buildings retain the same design and therefore my buildings are getting to be bored and bland.
I need some advice! If you are good at building things and you are creative, please shoot me some tips and advice on how to build more detailed and advanced objects and creations. I'm wanting to work on building a town, but I want to advance my knowledge and learn to be a good designer before I do so.
(Hopefully this is a good section for this, because if I messed up I will be very sad, haha.)
make sure you measure proply. Go slow layer by layer and plan out your progect :dry.gif: you should also post some pics of what you make. Also what i like to do is with my floor i some times place cobblestone around the edge and fill the rest with wood planks or red wool.
I get bored and often try looking up floor plans for interesting things- Victorian homes, the white house, Indoor mall. and I use them as a starting point- turning them into something different of course, I turned a Victorian house into a huge fun house, a double story gazebo into a pagoda, etc.
yeah!
If you feel like you're falling into a rut, I'd recommend trying to work with weird shapes. Some of the most fun that I've had was working on a cylindrical house; finding ways to make it both attractive and practical was a weird and interesting challenge, and I ended up really liking the result.

1. Don't use only one type of block for your building.
2. Don't use every single kind of clock for your building.
3. You're building does not have to be symmetrical, however, making a good building that does not have a symmetrical exterior is quite difficult if you are a beginner.
4. Wool can be your friend. It has many colors.
5. Try using slabs for staricases sometimes. It can make your building look less crowded.
6. Don't go overboard with glowstone lamps.
7. Most importantly, PLAN IT OUT.
Use the Golden Ratio to make aesthetically pleasing shapes. If you've never heard of it Wikipedia has a pretty good article on it, but the basic explanation of it is that you use the Golden Ratio, which is about 1.62 (the Wikipedia article has the exact equation to get a more precise number), to determine the lengths used to make shapes.
For example, if you want to make a rectangular building and you've already decided you want the long sides to be 10 blocks long, the short sides would be 10/1.62 = 6.17 blocks long (rounding down to 6 of course since you can't do 0.17 of a block).
This works for pretty much any shape (not so much with curves, but you can make some pretty good spirals by using Golden Ratio rectangles to frame quarter-circles and ovals work well), but some of them are too complex to work in Minecraft.
Another tip is to build with the terrain instead of always clearing space for your buildings. I know it's sort of difficult to get your head around at first but you eventually get the hang of it and it makes your buildings blend with the scenery better.
I normally make a bunch of sketches on graph paper before starting a new project. I like symmetry, and building above ground, so for creative variety I hollowed out a mountain recently and deliberately made it up as I went.
Also try using blocks you wouldn't normally use to spark your imagination.

when our team. Jill awe focus in inventing new designs and details no one has used before, making our builds new to any viewers eyes. Structure is very important to, to make a build appealing you want to have your eye follow the design nicely and have it flow into one main focus point. -the ff team
1- Scenery is everything: When we see a beautiful place, our eye catch the rest of the scenery, even if we clearely see only what directly in front of us. The scenery around a construction is primordial.
2- Calculate your buildings in even/uneven: The number of blocks in one side of a building is very important in regards of what you want to put on it. For example, you'll need a uneven number of blocks if you want a door at the exact center, and even if you want a double door.
3- always begin a megabuild building with the interior: if you do that, the interior AND the exterior will be proportional between each other.
4- Start a megabuild with the most little: If you start with the smallest thing you want to clearely see in the megabuild and build around it while respecting proportions, you'll always have a very good megabuild.
5- be patient: Good constructions takes time. Patience is your best friend.

I'm not a pro builder, but there's a word you need to know if you're a builder "The Skeleton of the build". It's the basic structure, with no detail, no indepth stuff, just the walls as like a...basic structure. When you are building with other builders, that word will come to a lot of use.
Not sure if this will help, but there is a guy on YouTube who is really good at building. His channel is called World of Keralis, and his videos are all about building. It really helped me out, so it is definitely a good option.
If you want to make your Minecraft builds look one hundred times better, there are a few easy and simple tricks anyone can do to help their structures really stand out.
1. Diversify your blocks. Don't use the same blocks for everything. Add pilers, windows, indents, bumps, etc ...
2. Use depth. Never make your walls flat. Use glass pain, stairs, slabs, fence, etc ...
3. Follow a theme. Don't just choose blocks at random. Decide ahead of time weather you want to use woods and stones or quarts and glass. Make your blocks match and work well with each other.
I hope these tips helped you guys. This is what I do when I build and I'v been builder rank on quite a few servers.
Well, what I like to do is turn an ordinary house into a "Piston House". A Piston House is a normal-looking house, but it is filled with all sorts of crazy contraptions! Try to make piston doors, secret rooms behind the bookshelves, and hidden staircases!

That's it I guess

Do a lot of terraforming/landscaping.
It makes your build look much better
