Hi guys I'm rather new to minecraft and I was just wondering if someone can point me to some effective newbie guides in "non" video format?
I've been searching and so far it seems like all the questions I have are super basic taken for granted things. Either way I haven't figured them out yet and I'm looking for answers for things like:
-farming/planting
-wrangling/ranching
-Spawn parameters for mobs
-how switches work?
-creating simple and complex machines
I was also wondering if there is any way to copy your saved world and give a specific version to some one else to host. I have a crappy connection so I can't really host stuff, but I would love to be able to give X to a friend to host. Is there any way to do this?
Sorry for all the total basic questions I just can't find straight answers for them anywhere specifically. Thanks for your time guys!
thanks for giving me straight answers, I'm in the wiki it's just taking me longer to find specifics because i suck at figuring out which questions to ask.

I'll tackle this question, as everyone seemed to ignore half of your post. This is possible, but we're not allowed to discuss it on the forum as it is against the rules. It involves using third-party software to alter the permissions of what machine and profile is allowed to read the gamesave file. It's virtually undetectable, but do be warned that it does break ToS of the console.
Also, a friend hosting your map will still result in terrible lag for yourself. A host's upload speed won't help your own performance is being bottlenecked by your connection's download speed. Just know that you may still be lagging out of the game quite a bit if a lot is going on in the server, particularly redstone contraptions.

Don't think of it as altering permissions, each STFS file contains 3 IDs, Profile, Device, Console. Its just swapping IDs on the save so it appears to have come from a different Profile, Device, and Console. It also depends on what game it is to decide if its completely undetectable, some games have more advanced mechanisms to lock saves to just one profile. It Violates the Code of Conduct, Terms of Use, and Voids your warranty. (Minecraft is one of the games where it is completely undetected.) It also creates even more lag when loading a minecraft world on someone else's Xbox, as all chunks are now loaded twice, most player inventories will be reset but still existing on the save which is just more unnecessary things to load.
So I'd say its a bad idea.
When it comes to the redstone issues, I'll personally help you with that, showing you some basics and advanced techniques.

Most of the quesitons you are asking have been asked here on this forum many times before. I know that the search function on the forums here often doesn't return results when it should, but if you keep trying different seach terms, you should eventually come up with some posts answering your questions. Threads asking redundant quesitons are often "locked" by the moderators of the site... and, unfortunately, I think this also stops those threads from coming up on the search bar. So, you may also want to try just browsing some of the waaaay old threads. At any rate, don't feel bad about not finding answers to what you're asking. I think some it is due to a basic flaw with the nature of a heavily moderated forum.
The most useful resource is the Minecraft Wiki (or at least it should be). Some of the stuff in it, however, is applicable only to the PC; so you'll find that some of the information there doesn't work in the Xbox version. A lot of it is trial and error... combined with a healthy dose of patience.
I can answer the switch thing.... That is pretty simple, just like your light switch at home. On/Off.
In this case it lights up the redstone wires, turns on, or even activates certain redstone blocks; ie pistons extend, or giving power to repeaters. it is simple as that. Now for anything complex that can be left to someone else that knows a lot more than I do, as I mainly use the basic stuff to anything that involves a rail system.
EDIT: Almost forgot what I was initially going to add...><
You could look up stuff on you tube as well. Like "Let's play" series. There are a lot of those, and many go through the basics, even though meant for the pc versions some of the older episodes of certain channels actually are relevant to xbox edition. Where the basics are concerned.
"Docm77" and "Ethos Lab" are 2 different ones to have a look at some of their older episodes as they do say quite a bit, and sometimes more. Also these 2 actually do go into redstone a bit as well. That is one of their many strong suits.
that and they are fun to watch. Well I think anyway...:D
Season 1 or 2 in either of those will be more close to where xbox is...
-farming/planting-- Use a hoe, convert dirt to farmland... Plant either
wheat, melons or pumpkins. Light levels matter(to an extent)
Melons and Pumpkins need a block adjacent to it to spawn the
Melon/pumpkin onto. Trees can be planted on any dirt block.
*Don't step on farmland as it will revert it back to dirt.
Sugarcane and Cacti have to be planted on sand that is right next to water.
-wrangling/ranching- You can lead chickens with seeds, and all others with wheat.
You can semi wrangle them with fishing poles, but pointless since they follow their
respective snack. You can then lead them to a pen/cage/room/hole and breed them with the wheat/seed
On breeding you need meat to breed wolves.
-Spawn parameters for mobs --Hostile mobs spawn 25 blocks away from you and need low
light levels. They don't spawn more than 128 away from you.
On a "Mob Spawner" You have to be within 16 blocks to cause them to react to you.
-how switches work?- You flip em, buttons you push em, plates you step on them.
-creating simple and complex machines- Dream them, build them.. If you dream them but cant build them
YouTube them.

It is more or less altering permissions, it's almost the exact same thing as changing the properties of a file on your PC to enable or disable which users have read/write abilities in regards to said file. The only difference is gamesave files are bound a bit more securely and were not intended to be tampered with. By the way the device ID is the console's ID, I've never seen a gamesave file that had more than a device and profile ID. I do know it is more detectable in other games, Forza's dev staff actually watches for suspicious behavior as you can actually gain an unfair advantage online by soft-modding a Forza gamesave. If they notice a sudden, large, and unexplained increase in the money a profile contains, it will be banned from playing online. This only bans one from playing Forza online, I've never heard of Microsoft performing a follow-up LIVE ban. I also don't see how this could void your warranty, unless some moron actually told Microsoft they did this, but there would be no reason to. Otherwise, to the 360, all you're doing is moving "legit" files between the HDD and a USB device, which is perfectly "legal" in terms of Microsoft's views of proper console use.
Anyway, he no want YouTubez. That's why I didn't embed any videos.
lol it's an inevitability. He will need videos.. All that dream shattering will cause him to break down
and watch.... How else can he get to your very educational videos hmmmm?

The rest can easily be found on the wiki by going to it (tab on the top of the page) and searching for farming and etc..
