Battleground - v 0.2 for Minecraft 1.5.1 - (Updating as of 10/22/13)
Battleground is a Pvp map powered entirely by redstone and commandblocks, meaning that there are no client mods or plugins required.
**Information**
1.) Best played with 10+ players. 20 on each team woud be epic 8 is a stretch, anything lower would be
quite boring.
2.) Bukkit plugins tend to mess with the commandblocks. Remove ALL plugins before playing or simply use
a vanilla server from minecraft.net.
3.) Currently building a plugin. Once done, a 24/7 server will be up for this map. Until then you're stuck
with your friends.
**How to Play**
The Game:
There are two teams: Gold, and Silver. The ultimate goal is to capture the enemy teams main base:
It is the central building above.
However, the base cannot be captured straight away. The main base is protected by two outer towers; one close to the main base, and one towards the middle of the map.
This is the Gold Team's middle tower, or Tower 2. All 4 outer towers have the same design; the only difference being the colors for each team. So how do you capture these towers?
Capturing a tower requires 2 players. Each player runs into the enemy tower, and stands on 1 of the 2 pressure pates.
Above you see the pressure plates, and 4 red stone lamps. As the players stand on the plates, the lights will fill up like a progress bar; and each time a light is lit, a note is played. As long as both players remain on their plate, the bar will continue to fill.
Once filled, the tower will be captured. Note that at anytime, if one of the players is knocked of a plate, the capture is canceled. At the moment, it takes about 10 seconds to capture a tower. (Can be subject to balancing)
Now, once a tower is capped, a couple things will happen:
1.) A message will be displayed to the entire server saying which tower has been capped.
2.) The scoreboard in each base will be updated, which is shown above. In this case, it is silvers base. The
top 3 lights represent friendly towers, and the bottom 3 are enemy towers. So, if silver's tower 1 is
captured, the top left light will be lit. Of course you will be able to see the labels better in game.
3.) A sand block will be dispensed on the blocks in the middle of the water. But what do sand blocks do?
Sand blocks are the only blocks a player can place (and break if they misplace it). These blocks are used to unlock shops in a teams base. Shops include: Armor Weapons, harmful potions, and helpful potions. You unlock a shop by placing a sand block in the slot shown above, and then hitting the button. The shop above is a "progression shop", meaning that when a sand block is entered 2 things will happen:
1.) The closest door to the slop will be opened, allowing you to retrieve your items.
2.) The next slot (to the right) will be opened, so that next time you get a sand block, you may purchase the next shop in the progression.
There are 2 progression shops and 2 single shops in each base. (Armor, weapons progression. Potions Single.)
But if you only can get sand blocks from capturing enemy towers, and there are only 2 enemy towers, how can you unlock more shops?
This is the entire map from above. In the center, on top of the mountain, there is a neutral tower. This tower cannot be captured, but it dispenses a sand block every 5 min. or so. A message will be displayed when one does but it is best your team is ready for it, because these sand blocks will be vital for a teams success. Note, items do not drop on death, so the enemy will not be able to get your teams unlocked items unless they sneak into your base and steal them from your shops.
Above gives you a good view of what has been described so far. 3 lanes are shown, the middle lane being a cave straight through the center.
And that is it. Once both outer towers are capped, the main base can be capped just like all the others. The only difference being it takes slightly longer.
Also, to touch on the start of a game, all players will be spawned in a lobby where they can pick their teams. The command blocks will take care of all the teleporting and spawn setting for you. Once both teams are ready in their barraks, they will hit their "ready up" button , the gates will lower, and the battle begins.
Once a main base has been captured, the game will display messages, and reset the game automatically after about 30 seconds. All players will be returned to the lobby, shops/towers will be reset.
So that's all. Any other questions I can answer in the comments. I could also make videos explaining the map.

**Server**
Ryan is currently building a plugin which will run the game. This public version will be more automated, obviously. Once he is done a server will go up. Lets go ryan!
**Server Settings** Important!
1.) Make sure in server.properties you have "enable-command-block=true" If you do not have that line add
it (without the "").
2.) Mobs and animals off! Mobs can spawn into redstone and trip off shops and screw with command
blocks.
3.) Difficulty to 0.
**Texture Pack**
Normal minecraft is fine, but I would recommend John Smith. Again, not needed in any way.

Added command blocks that say when towers are being captured.
Minor tweaks.
This is soooo cool! I can't wait to play it on the server!
Thank you for the responses. I understand it can be hard to get enough people together to play, which is why we are really pushing for this server. In the meantime, if you play a game I would be interested in seeing it.
Can't wait for the server to be up! I'll Be one of the first ones on when it comes out! (or at least try to be)
I hope I can be one of the first guys To be up on the server and help sort out the open server bugs too!
I think the server will help out with Large Teams so we can play it! First Vanilla Big team battle in a while. Except if you call Project ares vanilla -.o? anyways I hope i can help once the server is up!

Well, the plugin we are making for the server will make it not totally vanilla. However, the only thing it will do is assign teams, keep them balanced, and a couple other small things, so a majority of the game will still be vanilla.
Yeah Trying to Figure out the teams might be a pain on just a vanilla server. I think Bukkit might be better for a public server. Note - You might want to get the "No Cheat" plugin on the server, but i don't know what the limitations are for the command block redstone if that might mess something up. But i still recommend it so there won't be as much greifing.

The plugin is for bukkit, and I am well aware of anti cheating plugins. Thanks anyway though.
Any New News On the Plugin yet? Its been a couple weeks and I was wondering if there was any progress made. I Feel that this could be very Successful and People need to know what this PvP map is. I will try and support this to the best of my abilities. If you feel that this is not at all important... At least know it is important to me!

I remade the capping system, which was originally just ok. In version 0.2, the new capping system is flawed, so I have been fixing it, and all is going ok with that. The plugin has come a long way, and we are now fixing some bugs by putting more into the plugin.
Nice! I'm glad that it is still Being Worked on! Is there any way I can help with Getting this Post to be more publicized? I was thinking about doing a YouTube video When the server came out... however i'm not known for Minecraft if you visited my channel. I don't know it will help much, but i could go around tweeting This out to people in the Minecraft Community That Enjoy PvP maps like this. If that would be ok I would like to. I'll try not to spam them with tweets but if i help get the word out anyway i could i would do it. Would you like me to try to get the word out about this?
