This is probably just me being stupid, but I can't find the Villager sounds anywhere in the sounds folder. Can somebody please shed some light on this? Thanks!
If that doesn't make sense to you. Basically Mojang randomly hides the sound files somewhere inside the C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\objects\## folders. The Sound.json that HungryForBrains has been talking to you about, reveals a hash code that let's the game(as well as you) know what the file is called.
SO! if you are looking for villager/hit4.ogg it's file name is "1882f71dee4f377dde08a517adc5f3c585d2d526". You'll need to dig through each and every folder, starting from "00" through "ff".
I have no clue what it is you will find useful about "1882f71dee4f377dde08a517adc5f3c585d2d526". But good luck.

First: to find the locations of sounds, you can go to: ...\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\indexes and open the current .json-file in Word.
There you have an entire list of sound locations.
About villagers, it's in assets\minecraft\sounds\mob\villager
If they are not there, you can create them, but you'll probably have to add them into your json-file (assuming you understand everything I'm saying).
I'm a newbie in modding myself.
By definition, you have these sounds in there:
-death(.ogg)
-haggle1(2,3)
-hit1(2,3,4)
-idle1(2,3)
-no1(2,3)
-yes1(2,3)
Yes, I see the .json file, but I need to find the sound file (.ogg) itself.
That's why I gave the further details (names), they don't have to be there, so you can make them from scratch.
But if you go into assets/minecraft There is no sound folder (At least that I see)
What you fail to understand here, MushroomManToad. Is the it isn't a "sound" folder full of sounds. It doesn't exist.
"But if that is true, then where does the game keep the sounds?" You ask me, well...
Read this.

There, that's perfect! I just overlooked the hash line! Thanks!
