In my resource pack (still under development) I've had some trouble with spiders and their eyes. I have a texture for the spider itself, and then one for its eyes. Though for some reason this happens: (picture 1)
There seems to be a strange grey square going around the spiders face even though I have no light grey in the spider/spider eye texture. Why is that? And how can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Ah. It smells like 2011 in this thread. Nostalgia.
This is a pretty common problem among new pack makers and has been since the dawn of Minecraft. It comes from a bit of a wonky way in which the spider eyes work. For starters, it ignores the transparency of the _eyes file entirely. More importantly the method that it uses to make the eyes glow is based on pixel brightness (for lack of a more in-depth explanation) so brighter things have more of an impact than darker ones.
So what's happening is that you have some color in that area that looks transparent to you due to how the .png file format works. This is causing some change where you don't think there should be any. The solution, then, is just to bucket-fill the areas you don't want lit up with black. Black causes no change at all, so having the image mostly black will serve your purpose better than attempting to use transparency.

I hope that helps you.
Thanks! I coloured around the eyes with black and its no longer white!
