TextEdit on Macs is not capable of creating .mcmeta files, it adds an invisible .txt or .rtf file extension. Download Textwrangler from the app store (it's a developer's tool), then copy/paste the pack.mcmeta contents cited in many posts above with the correct syntax and save it as "pack.mcmeta". You can then copy it to the root folder of the resource pack and you're good to go. Hope this helps anyone having problems with the pack.mcmeta file using a Mac!
Edit: I realize this is not entirely new information in the thread, but I wanted to consolidate the information for Mac users since TextEdit seems to be causing many of the problems posted here.
I have a resourcepack, I didn't customize the files yet, I just put in all the default stuff and then tested it before customizing. When I load it up ingame, however, It says "pack.mcmeta folder is missing pack". I have no idea what this means, I used the elf trouble christmas resourcepack as a template. Please help.
Sorry everyone, but this thread seems to be going nowhere. Everyone seems intent on posting here without giving any useful details that might help to diagnose their problems. Nobody is getting any help because nobody who has the ability to help can figure out what assistance is needed.
Because of this, I am locking this thread thread.
If you are having a problem getting your pack to work, please post a thread in the Resource Pack Help forum with the following information:
● What pack are you using?
(Provide a link to the resource pack's MCF thread if possible)
(If it is your own pack, please provide a download of that pack)
(IMPORTANT: Make sure any download links provided don't violate our Rules regarding copyright.)
● What version of Minecraft are you using?
● What version of the Resource Pack are you using?
● Does the pack show up in your Resource Packs menu?
● Do you have any mods installed, and if so which ones?
● Do you have this problem with all resource packs, or just this one?
(I suggest trying a low-res pack like Sanity to check)
● What have you tried already to solve the problem?
● In addition to answering the above questions, please post your Game Output for a session in which you attempted to load the resource pack.
I sincerely hope that you can all get help to get your resource packs working.
Woah. I didn't realize that. That should be easy; TextEdit has a Smart Quotes setting. Thanks, man.
