It's been 3- 4 years since I last played Minecraft, and my favourite resource pack was last updated over 3 years ago. And I couldn't find one which simply hand painted like the images below:
I did find similar resource pack such as the one above, but they are not detailed, and mostly too dark (so many of them are so dark, why??). And the best one I could find which is PureBDCraft resource pack, actually very very good, and not dark.... But the comic feels are too much for my liking.
So I decided to make a resource pack. A hand painted version of Default Minecraft texture..
I was wondering if a hand painted version of Default exist somewhere? You see many realistic Defaults, but not a hand painted version. Please let me know if it does exist, I have not a single idea where else to look. If none exist, I would have no choice but to complete this resource pack of mine..
Honestly, I've never seen a pack quite like that. And believe me when I say that I have seen a LOT of resource packs since I vet content for this forum. There have been a lot of takes on the default textures, but I don't think there's ever been one quite like that. The closest I can think of R3D.CRAFT, which I believe is at least partially hand-painted... though in a much different style.
One thing: Make peace with the idea that you should have some variants for natural textures. By going with a higher resolution, you lose one of the advantages of the low-res default textures - that the pixilation disguises the repetition. Just looking at your dirt texture I can see a lot of areas that would draw the eye and stand out, highlighting the fact that the same texture would repeat over and over and form obvious patterns. Keep close to the default, but try switching it up in places to keep things from looking unnaturally tiled.
As to whether you should continue this, I say DO IT! If it makes you happy to work on this project I think you should. Even if it's not entirely unique it's also far from well-trodden ground... which is something I can't say for 99% of default-redux packs.
I looked over R3D Craft, it is very nice! But as you said it's not really hand painted. And I'm avoiding all kind of "realistic" stuff, bit tired of them to be honest. Everywhere you go, you see realistic packs.. lol
Anyway I will try to make 2 or more textures for every block that go randomly.

I don't speak English. Don't expect everyone to speak English. Seeing expressions and grammar errors? Not my problem. Deal with it.
So I was messing around making custom 3D, and made this grass block. I made each grass block with random rotation and then random 3D model, and it works so nice!
Has anyone done 3D grass? Surprisingly it doesn't lag at all, and I have not even allocate more memory for Minecraft!

So I've decided to make the resource pack, but hand painting really consumes a lot of time, and I simply cannot afford the time (work & study). But I really would like to make it, so I will make a new thread under WIP section, but once I got 10 blocks done.
The dirt texture I made before is not a good hand painting, literally did that in 10 minutes or less.. Here is a little preview of my hand painting style for my resource pack:

I know you are going to make the post, but time being I am really happy to see someone try and live on the dream of this discontinued pack. It is my favorite pack myself, and nothing even comes close to it I think.
Eventually, but it's gonna take a while! Google image "hand painted textures" you will see those are what I would like to make. I like how detailed some of them are. Usually painting 512x512 could take 1-4 hours, but since I'm making them 1024x1024, that would take twice that long and that's just for one texture. I should just give up and purchase hand painted texture sets, then make them fit into the game Lol
