I don't think so. IIRC, you can make blocks 'transparent' using models, but any block behind will not render, because it's not transparent internally.
This doesn't allow a transparent texture, it only allows using a model that doesn't take up the entire block space. It will also allow you to see into the void (and some underground stuff, too... though not ALL of it renders).
Hmm... there was a way to do it with MCPatcher/Optifine, though, correct?
Not for models. With MCpatcher there was BetterGlass, however I know partial transparency didn't work in 1.8 because of rendering changes, not sure about full transparency. Plus MCpatcher is currently defunct.
Optifine doesn't appear to support it. renderPass is a thing that works in the files but I couldn't find any values that it'd support just to get full transparency. BetterGlass isn't officially supported, and documentation isn't complete: on github it says valid values were available in renderpass.properties, however that file does not exist in the optifine docs... yet it is in the mcpatcher docs (much of the documentation was initially copied). None of those values work, so I suspect renderPass was added in for testing but has no valid values.

Sorry I haven't posted much of my texture work, sadly I had myself a harddrive failure xD, and being the dummy I was, I don't have a recent back up if my files. So now I lost everything I had on my computer for now. I'm hoping maybe I cwn still retrive files off of it. On a side note, how do we use crayfish's 3d modeling program? I had it, but I didn't really understand how to use it
Yeah, I almost had all of the blocks done xD, but oh well, I already ordered a new laptop and after it arrives, I got a tech guy ready to try recovering the data. And on the topic of crayfish, I don't actually understand the program at all, it was a fluke that I got the lever model done, ;S.

I had this idea to make something, but it will require help from you all texture maniacs like myself
The general Idea is a Texture pack artist union website (dont rush to conclusions please hear me out).
A website where texture pack owners will submit their own texture packs (and updates) with their own adfly links or whatever you use to share the texture pack. The website will feature a comment section for each of the packs that are submitted so users as well as artists can help people with their texture packs or others texture pack.
What differs this site from lets say resourcepack.net?
Well I was thinking of adding a tutorial section to the website for artists, we can all come together everyone can write some tutorials in what they are good at, i myself for instance had a lot of problems with CTM, and since 90% of CTM tutorials are out of date and dont have an exanple templates or images, its pretty hard to find these. This tutorials section would be awesome and helpfull for the whole community.
The website will also feature a forum, where you can submit your WIP packs, get feedback, help, etc.
Any suggestions or feedback? want to add something? I would do the website myself, the only help i would need from people is to submit their packs and help with some tutorials
Any suggestions or feedback? want to add something?
Nitpick here that I feel is important: they're resource packs now. Something that has been a real game changer and IMO the fact that the current sites we have don't make that distinction is one of the big problems with them.
If you want to start a site, look no further than the discussions in this thread as others have done regarding starting sites and the failures of the existing ones. I have re-written these a few times that I'm not even sure if the searches I've tried got them all.
-snip of some ravand-specific stuff, yes I suggested some stuff for resourcepack.net back in 2013 but it seems that didn't do any good-
The problem with MCF and PMC is not the packs-there are plenty of good ones out there. The problem is the environments of them and how they intend content to be digested and displayed.
MCF is crap for content in general but specifically anything that isn't mega already. Finding content is based on what people post on bringing it to the front page, mega stuff and the flood of bad content rails posts past the first page, which most users never read past. MCF is great for feedback, but that's only if people read your thread and actually decide to post on it. Oh yeah, and after about 2 years tags still don't work.
PMC is good for content, but bad for feedback. Most users are fundamentally opposed to feedback, won't say anything negative and have nothing constructive to say, and only offer hollow praise. The rest of the people are content creators themselves and have little interest in others' work (except maybe for "friends"). The submission reel turns images into very low resolution JPEGs and does not allow images hosted somewhere else. The submission editor is clearly made for a laptop, adding your own images there makes them gigantic and it makes editing them annoying. You can only have a few files (even linked) in the "official" download buttons, which are the download counts that count towards how likely someone is to find your pack through various methods (so, say if you want to add a few different versions, you have to link in the submission elsewhere and it won't be counted). Oh yeah, and after a year (maybe even 2) the site is still severely unstable.
So yeah, those are some problems on MCF/PMC that need to be fixed. For me personally, I think there needs to be a community of "standard" users who are willing to give feedback to help improve our resource packs, because some of us out there only have our own opinions because nobody else will give them. MCF doesn't work because it's not made for content and and PMC doesn't work because people are either against/don't know how to give feedback or are vested too much into their own work (MCF is in the middle, regular users often give feedback and artist sometimes give feedback because they're inclined to help, but that's when you aren't railed onto an older page).
If you'd like to use some of my ideas, it's fine with me. I think about things too much (my brain is overclocked) and I'd be happy to discuss more.
I totally agree with all of this! Not sure if you saw it, but I actually made a post bringing up many of these points, with the overupdating and the systems seeming like they intend to fuel popularity instead of content that's good and in good taste.
For instance, I saw a resource pack on PMC that was 1 year old and had about 365 updates...... yes, 1 update every day. To top it off, it had OTHER submissions on PMC for the different resolutions.... which also had updates with frequencies between every 2-3 days.
So on places like PMC and Curse, people can make multiple submissions for different resolutions, taking up more site "realestate".... for instance, once I saw on the PMC pop reel 2 resolutions of one pack and 3 resolutions of another. They also usually use the same screenshots for the different versions. A downscaled pack is not as good as a pack MADE natively in that resolution. In most cases, you can't just downscale something and have it be perfect, you've at least got to fix a few things by hand. Heck, the 16x version of Sphax PureBD craft is terrible, the designs don't carry over well and there are major issues (like no transparency in stained glass), but people still eat it up at PMC because it's made by Sphax.
I feel like some of us members of the texturing community should once-and-for-all make a good resource pack site that has awesome features that fairly manages content. Like the ideas I posted at Ravand.....
To sort of simplify/restate things (maybe adding?), it needs to:
1. Allow, encourage, and eventually enforce a system where artists put as much info about their pack as they can and ALL related downloads are housed under one project up-front. Overall this reduces clutter on the site and stops big packs from hogging the views with self-derivative content. For even less clutter, fan-made add-ons (think user updates for Vattic's Faithful!) should be grouped here as well.
2. Stay up-to-date on resource pack options and different types of packs. For instance, stand-alone 'add-ons' should be treated differently, for instance a pack that only adds low fire or transparent GUI should not be grouped with full resource packs... being such a general and simple thing, it's an unfair advantage to pit it against packs that redo just about everything and thus are niche especially with style. Sound, GUI, mob, and model packs should be their own things. Shader packs too, if vanilla shaders ever return in a meaningful way. Also WHAT makes packs incompatible should be noted.
3. Pack makers (at least trusted ones) should be able to control where their files are hosted, so clear screenshots can be used and so there can be centralized downloads. Don't do things like blocking google's URL shortener, or at least make it need to be APPROVED considering links from that shortener cannot be changed directly.
4. Aside from comments, featured reviews (either made/approved by staff or 'trusted' users) should be a thing. And a strong search/tag system is a definite must.
5. Updating every day should not be rewarded. Large updates of lesser frequently (bi-weekly, monthly, yearly etc.) should be rewarded, especially with finally updating outdated packs (if applicable) or with lesser known packs (because if you spend a year working on an update for your pack and all of 3 people download the update, that wouldn't seem fair now would it?). Also, direct version specifying (both version number AND update branch name) and user-rating of update branches
Also HUGE NOTE: If you don't plan on making something better than Curse, don't bother. Because otherwise we'll end up with another 3rd party site like resourcepack.net that nobody uses. And it'll probably take a lot of time/money to even *match* a site like Curse's, so I wouldn't advise this unless you already have time+money set aside for this or some funding method that doesn't put yourself ahead of the people actually putting content on your site.
There's more than this (especially technical), but this is probably enough for now (especially considering me realizing how much I write versus how much people ACTUALLY listen to).

As for resourcepack.net it's belive it or not one of the most used websites for resource pack downloading.
Problem is that people always shoot for the start or quit. For instance why does it have to provide a better service then curse? Curse is a great idea but i personally hate it. never posted my pack there, and never will.
Ofcourse artists will have controll over their download links, I will not be blocking any url shorteners, or any money making url shorteners, it is everyones right to make money from their pack!
You can force artists to put as much info as possible via Semi automaitc posting, AKA each pack will be reviewed before it goes online, if theres not enough info, contact the artist to add the missing info.
Everything that starts small can grow. If you provide a place for the artists where they can upload their packs, change their download links, interact with the community etc etc etc, and if it goes well there is always room for improvement.
As for the texture pack ranking I would try and add a FAIR system, since it will be a semi automatic process the pack can be devided (or given points) due to how much changes there were made in the current update to avoid people updating 1 texture and suddenly its on the top of the list!
Feel free to write more feedback, I would like to give this a try, but the website cannot live without the artists support. If i manage to get everything working, artists will still need to upload their packs there, i dont want to "steal" other peoples work and upload it on the website without their permission.
The yellow against the white for the 'crafting bench' portion is a bit too bright... maybe add in some of that Ochre from the character window to break it up a bit?
New planks. Scrapped the old idea of unique textures. This one tiles better.
EDIT: Raw textures at 400%. Acacia, Oak, Spruce. Birch, Jungle, Dark Oak.

Definitely prefer this oak plank texture over the old one. I absolutely love the colours you've used for the jungle wood, they look lovely!
Is there a way to make non-transparent blocks transparent with models?

Allow barriers to use a 3D model (/r/minecraftsuggestions)

Not sure where it will do better (probably /r/minecraft) although technical suggestions like these typically don't go so well :/
