After much research, I present a set of templates for skinning mobs. I was doing research on these for creating papercraft generators. I have the same information in PHP files too, if anybody want them.
Pigman, Pig zombie and Zombie all follow the standard character template.
Ghast_fire is just the ghast template when the ghast is firing.
Spider_eyes is an overlay onto the spider template when spiders are hostile.
Saddle is just the pig template the saddle surrounds the entire pig. Alas, including a set of reigns will not help control them. :biggrin.gif:
EDIT 2011-01-15: Added Charlotte and Squid (maintained alphabetical order.) EDIT 2011-04-06: Added Wolf (maintained alphabetical order.) Also 640x320 templates for SkinEdit here, 1280x640 templates here and PHP data here.
Charlotte:
Chicken:
Cow:
Creeper:
Ghast:
Pig:
Sheep:
Sheep Fur:
Skeleton:
Slime:
Spider:
Squid:
Wolf:
I made my own texture pack for testing parts of these templates, so when I play for research I have techno-colored mods wandering around.
How much bribery would it take for you to do templates for the Aethe mod's mobs?
I'll look at installing it this weekend to see what they are like. I've downloaded it and looked at the files but I want to be able to change the textures to verify the details.
Not until I can actually have them in game to verify details.
I am also researching various blocks to see where textures come from for other things. Like fences, doors (specifically the sides,) stairs, torches, slabs and pressure plates. My most recent research album.
Um... the spider skin, it appears the abdomen does not match with the original minecraft textures?
This was noted before and I triple checked it before replying then. On occasion I put verification pixels into the skins in my game just to make sure the corners of the boxes are in exactly the right place.
Is the spider map right? It seems like yours is laid out a little differently to the in game one.
Some of the texture files in the game extend beyond what is actually used. I took many screenshots of each of the mobs and also used the templates as skins for the mobs to verify exactly what pixels are used in the skins.
Once 1.8 is out I will double check this and correct as needed.
Nice idea but I think, personally, that one teeny part is wrong. The bottom row here looks like some kind of jaw, and the texture just to the left of the body in that row looks the underside of said jaw.

To me it seems that the two head boxes would be like the head and hat boxes of the standard character template. I've seen some skins that use the head/hat to make it look like the eyes follow you. I have not seen any shots of the head tipping back to reveal more of the jaw to indicate that it is actually a jaw, but I will investigate it when it comes out.
When the Enderman get aggressive their head pops up exposing their jaw. The jaw box is slightly smaller than the head box (about one pixel of the head box smaller.) They have a similar modeling glitch that the cows and wolves have, the tilt axis for the head popped up is not the same tilt axis as the jaw. The research shows that when looking down, the jaw box will tilt forward out of the head box. With the default texture it is not noticeable because the top of the jaw box is transparent. At least the arm and leg boxes are mirrored left to right (texture would be for the Enderman's right arm/leg.)
I just tried it with the leather armor while in a boat and riding a pig, but didn't see it, but that may have been because I was putting on the armor while already inside the boat or on the pig.

Much better.
Thanks so much!

His name is "Carnye", he is happy to see you =]
Weird stuff in those files. The wing file for cows and pigs is weird, they are 2 by 8 by 16 boxes but put in the file weird.
Here is the format:

I may never use this, but I know lots of people will find this very helpful!
+1 for you :smile.gif:

Pleas do, would be so cool :biggrin.gif:
Oh yeah, there is also a graphics glitch with some of the armors and riding in a boat/mincart/pig:
