Hi there! Before I get started, I would like you all to know that I did in fact use the search bar for my question, but I couldn't find what I needed.
Now then, my question: I've seen a bunch of videos about Minecraft, and it looks really sweet. I downloaded the PC Gamer Minecraft demo to see if I'd like it, and though I did, I noticed a problem. My computer doesn't handle open areas well, even at the lowest graphics settings and closest render distance. I'm not sure what version of the game the demo is, it's not displayed on screen. I want to buy the full game, but first I need to find a good texture pack to lower the strain on my computer. So, what are some good low-res texture packs? A small preview would be appreciated, and it needs to be compatible with the Technic mod pack, since I plan on getting that.
If you have issues with lag, and framerate, then perhaps installing Technic is NOT a good idea.
While lower-resolution texture packs should increase framerate in theory (I've never tested), the amount they should increase it by is miniscule.
I do suggest, however, to install Optifine, once you've purchased the game and it's been updated to 1.2.4. That should give you a framerate increase, and options to do so further.

Yea, I figured it would cause more lag, but seeing all the awesome stuff you can do, on top of how fun the base game is, is what sold me on wanting to buy the game. I mean, who wouldn't want to play with a nuclear reactor?
I looked at Optifine, and it sounds great. Do you think it'd work on the demo? I'd like to see how effective it is.
EDIT: Well, I tried installing Optifine, which recommends using Magic Launcher, which I did, and it and a consecutive manual search tell me that the demo didn't come with a minecraft.jar file. However, the Optifine thread is gushing with praise. If it works as well for me as it apparently does for everyone else, I think I'll be ok.
