Many have asked me if they might use all or a portion of my work(s) in my Minecraft Resource Packs and my website materials with their Minecraft Servers and/or Mod packs/Map packs/Resource Packs even their own original video games. I herein give permission to use my SnowSong Sound Pack free of charge, entirely free, for personal enjoyment, modification of the Minecraft gaming experience, and most importantly, for Foley and specialized usage in your OWN MODS, resource packs, and your own GAMES if you are a game designer; INDIE or otherwise. This resource pack is a wealth of brilliant FX and music that can and should add professional quality and all-original sound engineering to your audio projects of all sorts. Giving credit where credit is due, a mention or referral to me as sound/music engineer/composer would be nice, but I will not in the least bit make that necessary for you to use my works. Let my works contribute to your endeavors if they would benefit you at any degree of use.
GOD bless you all, have fun, and keep me working!

Some of the effects are a bit jarring, but that's from familiarity for the old ones.
Some of my favorite sounds include the explosions, all the footsteps, the bow and the mob sounds (the spiders are particularly horrifying).
All the sounds for the nether are amazing, and they give the place an extremely creepy feeling (love the manic laughs of the ghasts).
The music is all very good from what I've heard so far, a bit less tranquil than C418's stuff, more upbeat, but still definitely suitable for the game. The acoustic guitar and piano is particularly good.
A few things that I'd like to see are more realistic noises for attacking pigs (they should squeal like the angry pigmen) and the block breaking and placing noises being a bit longer and more prominent (especially for breaking blocks like grass and leaves, that sound feels far to short).
Well, with the pig noises....that one is easily explained....you see, pigs only have a death screech and no hurt effects. Mojang's though was that pigs enjoying life and pigs not enjoying life so much should sound the same. But pigs snort and grunt far more often than they oink or squeal. The death effect should be very disturbing. But the vanilla code uses idle for hurt on Sheep and Pigs (lazy).
As for block placement, I tried several variations with lots of beta testers and the thud or thrum effects became overwhelming when stacking large numbers of blocks placing/breaking very rapidly. I went for balance in those areas. Some will sound through softer and others firmer to spread the dissonance in a manner that is more-to-real for building and breaking stuff.
The shortness of some effects is considered for the same reasons. Glass doesn't always break predictably, and when you break a lot of ice or glass at once, you plug your ears from the sound, and then shut off the sound pack to prevent that happening again. I tried to balance and normalize the entire experience for the sake of preventing any one sound system from causing the dreaded TURN-OFF click.
Also, realize the sounds for chopping grass are used for chopping leaves, chopping crops, basically, one FX set to handle ALL vegetation (Mojang == lazy). I even made FX specific to dirt and gravel, but, the vanilla code only calls for the gravel FX when moving or placing dirt. Go figure. If I could code a CORE MOD to distribute with this, I would change a LOT of the sound handlers, FX applications and add a TON of improved events and loop overlap mixing (as is the case with moving water which loses all sound from time to time in spite of well-defined loop regions).
Thank you so much for your comments and input. Keep playing! The sounds for the Wither and EnderDragon are something to behold!
For some reason, this pack (1.6.2 no-hurt) isn't showing up on the resourcepacks list. Any ideas?
EDIT: Got it. The pack was inside a folder in the zip. Might want to fix that to avoid future confusion. Love the portal sounds, but the rest of them seem pretty low-volume compared to Mojang's.

Mojang's sound FX are indeed louder, but most certainly not good. Louder does not mean better. SnowSong tries to maintain balance throughout, meaning it takes everything into consideration under a process of normalization. This enables the cows and sheep and pigs and duckens and moving water to work together for an overall mixed sound experience rather than all chiming in at maximum volume and poor quality. That lack of attention to any sort of detail or preference is what has caused most Minecraft players to mute all the sounds. You can always lower the music volume, max out the Sound FX volume in your Minecraft audio options, and then increase your overall volume on your system to get the mix you like best.
Thank you, though, for the catch on the zip file structure for 1.6.x. I have corrected those problems and now you need only drop the zip file into the ResourcePacks folder. Anyone having already downloaded the files and wishing to avoid this issue can re-download the 1.6.x files. Again, thank you for helping me simplify the process here.
OH MY FINNNNG GOD HOLY CRAP. I WAS IN THE NETHER WHEN I MOVED THE SOUNDS INTO SOARTEX FANVER oh my god..... love the sounds but holy crap i need to see a psychiatrist now.
after calming down nice job, very nice...creepy....but well done :/
Just wait until you summon a Wither. There's gonna be pain...and scary stuff!
BRIEF down-time as my domain name repopulates from having not been renewed yesterday. My apologies. The file server will be back online within about 48 hours maximum of this posting. Thanks, and keep enjoying and telling peeps about my Resource Pack!
Wow, this is amazing in every way, although I don't plan on using it on a daily basis. It would end up traumatizing me for life. Those blazes. *Shivers in corner.* Anyway, it was very well made. Great for a creepy atmosphere if the game wasn't scary enough for you already. Though one thing that annoys me is the ghasts make that "I'm going to get you" sound. It just doesn't fit them well enough. I think it would be better if they didn't talk and just laughed, but that's just me.
Finally, a decent soundpack! Very nice work with this pack, although I suspect you didn't make the sound effects yourself, given the extreme variance in quality... I usually assume all resource pack makers get their sounds from freesound unless they explicitly say otherwise. The music is VERY well done, I must say. The biggest problem of the pack is that you've made the all-too-common mistake of keeping all your SFX in stereo format, which removes the 3d sound system's ability to pan them realistically across both channels, making the thing that made the sound un-traceable. Also, if I may ask, what program did you use to produce the sounds?

Although I do not appreciate at all being accused of not using original sounds, I will consider your input concerning panning. I did not know that Minecraft had 3D sound capabilities. But you are right about this. My beta testers didn't catch it either. As for the accusation, I will merely note it is unfounded. The sound qualities are all the same in essence, intentionally withheld at points to reduce prevalence, and intentionally accentuated where I felt necessary. It's all in the mix...which is never perfect enough for a sound engineer...ever.

Interesting you should say that of the Ghasts. I've heard many say it is what scares them the most in the Nether, now. A little girl voice playing hide n seek is an excellent lure for any intrepid adventurer challenging Hell itself.
hmm, i have a strange request, question, and comment. [the request is the strange one]
Request: can you include Lugias Song from Pokemon? It matches the rest of this pack.
Question: What was the theme you had in mind for this?
Comment: I almost did a Resource pack Showcase, but alas, my Laptop cannot handle Youtube videos.
I am so sorry, but, I cannot fulfill your request. All of my songs in the pack are my own original compositions. I couldn't use someone else's songs for the pack. The theme was realism. The musical theme was relief. This is a very intense game. Everything you encounter keeps you on edge...tense...scared...a little spooked....lonely and all alone for certain against mystical enemies. You look forward to the rising sun, and thus it rises with a song that celebrates that you survived the night. So you look forward to the relief you will hear soon in the song. But in Hell...there's no comfort. In the End...there's only you and screaming terror. In the battle against The Wither, you are summoned to epic conflict at the cost of your own desire for reckless power, and music to match.

I just want to tell you that i love your epic sound pack, i only use this on all my texturepacks.
Anyways, that was one AMAZING res. pack.
The only problem I had was the glass sounded a bit wonky; a bit weird in quality.
I was wondering; how did you make your sounds? I find it weird running around town with a mic recording sounds, lol.
