Yes, that looks better and it's AWESOME! =)
Looks like there's skin stretched on it.
Minecart: Could have train-like wheels on the sides or something (http://valerieflemin...rain_wheels.jpg) Powered rail: Well, since it is powered by steam, there could be some hydraulic piston-like things on the sides or how to call it (pistons in the non-minecraft way). I hope you imagine what I mean (extending and retracting and steam coming out of them). Redstone pipes: Why edit them? =( Cobweb: How about making it look like barbed wire or smthng?
for the sign i was moreso going for a rusty metal look, as though a piece of rusty sheet metal with jagged edges was nailed on to a wooden sign.
anyway, to answer your question...
i don't think ill be putting wheels on the minecart. id wanted to do train wheels like that, but i realized it would look weird since i can't really animate it...
powered rail will have pistons and gears and such
redstone pipes will be edited because the color is a bit too vivid, their texture is a bit too bland, and because i want ctm random varients. no massive changes.
Oh my my MY. I have been a long time user of Glimmars Steampunk pack - but THIS just may be taking its place as my number one 'use all the time forever' pack. I'm so impressed I can't even put it to proper words.
A trillian diamonds to you, a trillian kudos and just.... WOW. Ultra amazing pack and THEN some. I can tell the hard work you're doing and it's mighty impressive. Hats off to you.

i dunno... glimmar has been making a lot of big changes lately, so is pack is becoming a bit more awesome.
but really, i cant imagine that we're competing for the best steampunk pack, since we have such different ideas of how it should be done. mine is a dark, apocalyptic, surreal, steampunk world built of the junk left behind from a world ravaged by a time inversion disaster.
glimmar's pack is a crisp, clean victorian industrial steampunk pack. one with which you might expect to see airships and the like built. as much as i like airships, i gotta admit, my pack isn't so great for them.
I plan on using both. Don't see why they need to compete.
exactly. i was just bringing it up because i get posts indicating that it might happen a lot... but its not really an issue in reality. people just get the wrong idea.
Continued from Page 29, my list of possible textures.
(By the way, the Nether thing was kind of funny. That would be so crazy,)
Anyway...
Desert Pyramids:
Cracked Sandstone: Since it's found naturally, it should be made to look more like cracked sandstone.
Smooth Sandstone: Now, it would be really awesome to have this made into sandstone-looking bricks.
Chiseled Sandstone: There's only two words i can think of to describe what to do with this: Egyptian Hieroglyphs.
The TNT thing would be cool. I actually love it. Its just two things:
1. How can you whip up a chronoton-emitting device with only sand and gunpowder? Just a bit of a question. Maybe Gunpowder can be turned into sort of a pile of schizo-tech parts. It would make sense, since if you killed a creeper, you could hypothetically dismantle his bomb and take the stuff out of it.
2. About above mentioned desert pyramids, it seems a little strange that a primitive society could whip up that kind of technology.
Possibility for Emerald textures: In light of the rising gas prices in real life, it would be cool to make emerald blocks into gas cans. However, this is only my main possibility. Extras would include:
Pile of golden or some kind of coins or money,
An expensive-looking item, such as an ancient pot or a beautifully carved object
A pile of emeralds.
A pile of jewelry.
Objects like jewelry, coins or emeralds would look great when encased in stone, however and ancient-looking pot or object encased in stone would be so realistic.
Flowers: Concerning red ones, they could look like wilted roses, with dull, red petals and a greenish brown color for the stem. Or, they could look like they were fake flowers, with very unrealistic petal colors (So red almost to the point of being orange, or something like that) And a very bright green color for the stem.
Yellow flowers could look like dandelions, or maybe a wooden pole with a picture of a flower on it.
Mobs:
Villagers: Could be people who wear scrapped together clothing, such as blankets and cloth patches sewn together, or a bed sheet cut up and sewn. Maybe they would also make gas masks. Oh, and they could also wear torn and ripped clothing. Overall, they would just be people who don't really care about culture, but just value survival above all else.
Cows: They should look like they are very skinny, as if they can't find very much food. Their chest should prominently feature ribs, and maybe a few gashes. The legs could be very bony, too, as if there's almost no muscle. They would make you think "Oh man, he doesn't look to good. Maybe i should take him in and feed him, and i could get some milk.", or "He looks so bad, Maybe i should end his suffering and get some leather, too." Either way, they would basically make you want to help it. (Though, i'm not so sure killing it is "helping" it.)
Chickens: Chicken AI is so retarded. Make it look like it actually IS retarded. Expose a little bit of it's brain, and make it look like it has few feathers. The exposed skin could be tinted an ever so slightly green color, so you could enjoy some green eggs and green ham from the green pigs that can be found in the wild. (Don't you miss Dr. Seuss?)

sandstone: already done it... i went with something pinkish and striated... came from a dream i had once, really. it can be seen here...
TNT: not everything in my pack makes sense recipe wise, however, i do have plans to apply random ctm support to sand and bare dirt to have random bits of spare parts mixed into it. (occasional gears, fuses, ect)
also, who said anything about pyramids? its just sandstone, anyway in the modern real world, pyramids still exist. they're just old now.
emerald: i want to keep it green. it goes with my pack's color theme. browns, golds, greens, and occasional bits of desaturated red. i was thinking it could be glass. old bottles and such, and perhaps the emerald block could be a broken glass mosaic. maybe ill do some ctm work and make it look like things with different shades of glass, or perhaps ill make it into shelves containing glass bottles... not sure yet, anyway having emerald as a gas can... it sounds like something Santiago3 might do in his pack The End Is Extremely Nigh which is a great pack btw, but... that sort of thing doesn't really fit in mine. im keeping my ores to be at least somewhat close to what they are supposed to be.
flowers: ive already done them. have a look...
(the one in the middle is the yellow flower.
anyway, i plan to add varients to the random plants around, some of them will be other plants, some will actually be random bits of metal sticking out of the ground. pipes and such.
villagers: i like the gas mask idea.
cows: emaciated cows it is.
chickens: i was thinking of seeing about texturing them backward so the head is missing, and the tail serves as a beak.
i dunno... glimmar has been making a lot of big changes lately, so is pack is becoming a bit more awesome.

No comparisons needed and shouldn't be had. You both have your own artistic take and style. Worlds apart, yet both out of the universe in class and awesomeness. And I'm a fallout 3 fanatic so your apocalypse type feel is win to me.

me too. im trying to keep the fallout look out of this, not because i don't like it, but because it's been done before, and doesn't really fit the theme, but i gotta say... fallout did inspire me to add the apocalyptic aspect to the pack, and somewhat inspired the idea for the lore.
anyway... i have an idea for a future pack ive been considering doing. due to the new swearing rule i might just scrap the whole thing since the name would no longer be allowed... [Expletive Deleted]'ed up happy land. you see, the name itself is a bit... upsettingly wrong sounding. like it was translated from another language and something was lost in translation, or like it intentionally lacks eloquence and gets directly to the point. also, even though most wouldn't realize it, it has an excellent phonasthetic value so it comes off as an oddly satisfying name, much like... "cellar door" (a phrase known to be the most pleasing combination of words possible to say on photosynthetic value alone)
anyway, perhaps i can come up with something similar for a name... but overall the idea for that pack is that its a bit lower resolution than this one is (it would be 32x) and it would be heavily inspired by tranquility lane and andale from fallout 3...
a happy, "perfect", plastic fantastic somewhat vintage suburban atmosphere, with dark gory secrets... a lot like the average person's mind
soul sand texture looks creepy. it looks like a human crushed into a cube by WALL-E
it's just left over organs. see, zombie pig surgeons sometimes have spare parts left over after doing surgery. they're amateur surgeons... they just need more practice is all.
Wooden - Found items barely suitable for the task for which they are used.
pickaxe - claw hammer held backward (claw end out)
hoe - broom
sword - tree branch*
axe - ??????
shovel - a rusty spoon.
Stone - Still, appearing to be found items, but altered to be somewhat better suited for the task. (still very low tech)
pickaxe - ?????
hoe - a street sign bent to a 90 degree angle.
sword - a meat cleaver and a chef's knife tied together (so it can stab and hack)
axe - ????
shovel - actually a rusty shovel*
Gold - Found items ill fitting their task, but very fancy, ornate, and delicate. not necessarily gold.
pickaxe - a statue's broken off arm*
hoe - ?????
sword - fancy candlestick (with animated candle)
axe - ?????
shovel - some kind of goblet
Iron - Simple machines, obviously put together from junk, but effective looking.
pickaxe - a sort of spike on a stick, hinged, with a spring on one side, and a lever on the other.
hoe - think giant crank powered egg beater, but sideways bladed "whisk"
sword - big, rusty serrated piece of metal. im thinking i want the handgaurd to be a round piece of metal with holes in it, like something you'd see on a gas flame apparatus.
axe - curved saw*
shovel -?????
Diamond - steam powered items.
pickaxe - some kind of burr drill.
hoe - ?????
sword - ?????
axe - well, obviously a chainsaw.
shovel - Im thinking some kind of hand/claw-like device with bladed "fingers" that move and dig. like a mole's claw.
*ideas marked with asterisks will be replaced if i think of something better.
Stone ax: I like the idea of a stop sign bent in half and warped to a thin edge.
Gold Hoe: Obscenely large cigarette holder
Golden Ax: piece of an ornate mirror with a big chunk of glass or polished metal sticking out.
Iron Shovel: ever play with one of those diggers that was on a swivel in a sandbox as a kid? Where you have two handles that you use to move a shovel up and down and to pick up sand - could have the shovel part of it with a servo smacked on the head so it moves with an electrical input.
Diamond Sword: A blade with a tube attached to it that pumps steam along it, heating the edge red hot. A small pump sits on the handle, which includes a protective covering so you don't burn your hand.

i especially like your ideas for the gold tools.
the idea for iron isn't bad, but nothing iron will be powered, it will be fully mechanical.
your diamond sword idea reminds me of a steampunk version of the shishkebob from fallout. i like it.
You say you update once a week. Is that on a specific day of the week, or do you just make sure to post a new update at some time during the week?
Also, how do you find the time?
i *try* to update the OP once a week. i update the thread with screenshots whenever i finish something (i just make a new post, and try to reply to any posts by anyone else that posted while im at it) and once a week or so, i gather up the screenshots i posted and add them to the OP.
anyway, just because ive not posted in a while, here's my progress on the large chest... it's not finished, i still need to do the top, bottom, and inside, but its mostly done at least.

I'm loving this!
That wool is the most ....exciting wool I've ever seen. I don't know another word to use there, lol. It makes me want to go out and build a massive steampunk city right now. The only thing I can possibly find negative to say is: I'm not in love with the planks. I'll study them a bit and see if I can pinpoint why. I don't hate it, I just don't love it.
I think this is outstanding, and I'll be downloading. I love it when you can SEE the effort that went into a project. Anyone with eyes can clearly see the time and effort that you're putting into this pack!
