Worked on custom fire all night, will be added in 1.9 here is a kind of teaser, the gif is kinda crappy though, it looks much much better in game as I heavily tweaked the transparency and color to fit the set better.
Also the framerate in game is higher, it looks sweet :smile.gif:
I have a question, just curious as to what your thoughts regarding armour are? i mean do you plan to keep them as default or plan to update them at some point in the future?
Cheers.
Was working on them a bit today, armor is going to be one of the hardest things... because too simple looks wierd/crappy and too styilzed doesn't fit the game... so I'm trying to find a good balance, that's why I have put it off for so long.
Glad to see that you're back. I was almost going to cry when I wasn't able to find this :sad.gif:
I like the new chest texture. I did notice a bug though. The lid of the chest clips with the body. I don't know if that's your pack or mc. I'm on 1.8.1

The Z clipping bug on the chest is a Minecraft Bug, it does it even with vanilla textures if you look closely, hopefully they fix it soon.
This is a big update, new custom fire animation is here, as well as armor item icons and other UI elements that needed some love.
1.8.1 users should update to this as well, the fire alone is worth It.
All the new pre-release 2 Items are in and updated enjoy, note that Pre-release 2 is much much better than Pre-release 1 so you should try it if you had issues with it the first go round.
Hope you guys like the fire as much as I do, took a lot of time to get it right.
You can fix it yourself man, what you must do is have the upper bottom pixels match exactly the bottom upper ones (ok...that sounded extremely frustrating, here is what I mean)...:
the number of border pixels (ie thickness) needed to match on either side depend on resolution
16x = 1pixel
32x = 2pixels
64x = 4 pixels
.
.
.
etc etc
Hope that helps, cheers...^^
Unfortunatly a fix like that works fine for 32x and 64x sets as you only lose 2-4 pixels, which isn't all that noticeable, with a 256 set it makes it very very noticeable. Honestly I even notice the zclip error with notches textures, I have OCD and it drives me crazy. So rather than make a workaround for a software bug I'll just wait for a fix, and if he doesn't fix it, I'll look at the code and fix it myself with a mod.
Thanks for the suggestion though, I had already considered doing that, but it produces a very undesireable result on higher res textures.
Have you tried over-cutting the chest textures on the edges? I thought that might work, but haven't tried it yet.
Honestly rather than find some texture workaround that would alter the look of my chests greatly, which it would, I'd rather spend the time looking at the code and just fixing the bug, instead of prolonging it with workarounds.
If a bunch of people make workarounds then notch won't fix it, I'd rather him realize that it's a problem, and he actual address the issue, as I have stated even with the default textures and the pixels being the same color even at low 16x16 those with a keen eye it will still bug the hell out of them, as it does me.
I'll see what I can do, I think what needs to be done is that the lid of the chest needs to be adjusted that way you can have a true power of 2 texture when the lid is closed instead of the messed up size it is now.
From what I understand, the problem is the actual model wrapper for the chests, since the bug it creates is the result of texture overlapping.
Actually, I think it doesn't. You are not able to see the part that is glitched anyway, so making the top part match the bottom will have no adverse result in the look of the chest, except only when opening it. At least thats the way it works for my 128x. Hope that helps, cheers...^^
Yup I figured that out after I posted, I see that you can make it so it's only really glitched in the lid top, it works well, minus the stupid looking lid, but you can really only see that when another person opens a chest anyway
So thanks a bunch for a least this somewhat fix, it's still better than the flicker, I still wish it was just done right though :sad.gif:
I fixed the hardcore hearts missing, thanks for info.
I also finally fixed the glitchy flickery chest bug, thanks dante.
It slightly altered the look of the chests the top lid is now a bit thinner, but this was the best way to fix it.
I'm keeping the originals saved aside in the event that I can fix with with code, or notch does, but for now this should still be a lot better minus the ugly lid when it is open :sad.gif:
Too bad about the last page, I got a little worried, that 1.7.3 will be the last update for this texture pack...
Im very happy that this mode was created and I say thx to the creator of this texture pack... and the rest server says thx too :smile.gif:
I like this texture pack, because it looks good and natural and it does not look grainy and it looks good bought in large and small areas....
Can we expect 512X512 in the future, because I want to kill my new PC?? XD
Keep up the good work!!!
Honestly my current PC can barely handle the 256 version, 512 would kill mine, and I just think it is overkill, I will never make a 512 version all my work has been done at 256 and scaling it up and doing it right would literally require me starting over, not gonna happen I've already been working on this for thousands of hours. I would like to finish it as is, and start working on my code mods again.
If I were going to do a 512 version and start over it would be a new theme, probably a full conversion mod that I could sell once the mod store opens with new game objectives and items/blocks.
Damn hadn't even realized he'd altered that... he hasn't changed it in over a year, so I hadn't even noticed, it's getting harder and harder to keep up with the changes, I swear like after months of not much progress notch is free basing meth these days or something... Thanks for the info I'll fix it ASAP that is why the pre-releases are nice
Edit: I see that why I hadn't relized there were changes to it, is they are not in game yet, same with the calduron, I'm hesitant to do textures for things until I see them in game and they are more offcial, so for now I'll hold off on adding these until a new pre release or 1.9 itself comes, as right now they aren't even used, and may never be, who knows it's all still up in the air.
Hey CF, just as a FYI the pre3 is out and there is a chunk of new stuff in the gui section and a few new things added to the terrain file. not sure what else, still poking around the files. Just thought I would give you a heads up.
Been working on this the last two days for quite awhile, got most of the new stuff in :smile.gif:
You're going to love netherbrick, and netherwart :smile.gif: enjoy download link is on the front page.
I'll do another release for 1.9 to fix a couple more things but for now this should work even with 1.9 as long as nothing changes.

Here is a shot in game!
The 1.9 version works fine for 1.8.1 it's the same thing, they just added a few more textures but it's 100% backward compatible.

Dammit why did notch use different hearts than survival.... didn't catch that, thanks for the bug report I'll fix it soon.

Thanks again It's always appreciated, I always try to improve the set, just takes time.
