As I've said a few times already, it's NOT a gui problem. I've played almost a year with this texture pack with the GUI set set to that and it's been fine.
Does this patcher work with the technic launcher? i tried to use it with it and i saw under the vanilla file of it a file named mcpatcher (why i am wonder about this is because it is the technic launcher, it comes with a bunch of stuff ) , is this a normal technic launcher vanilla file? and also, whenever i try to load up vanilla now with the technic launcher, it doesnt load, i have tried every other modpack and they all work but vanilla doesnt. a new window pops up and it just stays blank/white when it should show the mojang symbol. i am thinking tht the mcpatcher file is causing the launcher to not load, should i delete the file, or does anyone actually know what to do in this situation? Please help as soon as possible, i really like vanilla.
Ok, i have deleted the file and it still doesnt work. now i am really confuzed. can anyone help?
Still looking for a solution, have some new pictures to show my problem
This is with the GUI set to the largest it'll go. Of course it makes it look better but you can still somewhat see the jagged edges. I usually keep it on medium/normal or whatever so as you can imagine it looks worse when smaller..
Closeup of text via photoshop
Again, at lower GUI scales it looks worse...
Here's another screenshot of just random wild
Now...here's the image zoomed in. One with optifine zoom, the other simply zooming in with photoshop
The first one is zoomed in via photoshop to show you the fuzzy blurred effect I have for the distance
The second is zoomed in via Optifine for comparison

I think thats just part of the texture pack, not the mod
I cannot get MCPatcher to work. I have an untouched, vanilla version of minecraft on my mac, and mcpatcher does nothing but frustrate me. Really wanted to try to give some of these higher resolution textures a try for my son, but it is utter fail. I have tried everything. Any texture pack I put into the textures folder after patching does NOTHING. Each one of the zips has a subtitle of "the default texture of minecraft" - what are we doing wrong? PLEASE. For the love of god, someone help me.
if you're having large problems i would recommend using Optifine instead. also, i would recommend a pc instead of a mac.
im having a problem with the recent 12w42b version. After i patch, i try to test and i get a black screen. tried a few times and keeps happening. i dont usually have a problem installing the patcher. anyone else experiencing this?

try it without better sky. i had the same problem and installed it without better sky and HD font and that worked for me.
The current version of the patcher appears to be compatible with the 1.4 prerelease. I have an update planned anyway in the next few days, but in the meantime 2.4.3_01 will work fine.
Also a reminder that the URL to this thread changed recently. Obviously if you're reading this, you've figured that out, but many people are having trouble finding this thread again. If you visit other forums, be sure to use the new URL. Eventually this should flush out all the now-dead links in google.

having a mac makes this all a little more complicated, but it's not insurmountable -- i have a mac and things work fine once you understand the structure. clearly, judging from this thread, windows users have a lot of difficulties as well.
ok. you "can't get it to work" and you've "tried everything" -- that's too vague, you need to give a lot more detail.
here's what i do, step by step; try to reproduce, and if something goes wrong, tell us exactly what and where:
i am using mac osx snow leopard and the mac's finder to move things into directories. tell us if you use a different version of mac osx. if you use mountain lion, your library folder is by default hidden from you, and you need to unhide it first. also, extensions might not be visible in the finder. if you don't know how to fix those issues and a quick google doesn't do it for you, let us know. yes, it sucks that computer companies make things more complicated by thinking they know best how you should use your computer, but we just have to deal. trust me, after you've done this a couple of times it will be a piece of cake. if you can post to this forum, you can mod your minecraft.
1. make a clean minecraft install: in the finder go to /yourUserName/Library/Application Support/minecraft and delete the entire "bin" folder.
2. launch minecraft and log in.
-- minecraft will automatically download a clean version and recreate the "bin" folder with clean, original contents.
3. quit the game.
4. inside the "bin" directory, duplicate the new minecraft.jar so you have a backup and don't need to redownload if something goes wrong. name it something useful, like "minecraft 1.3.2 backup".
5. move the (freshly downloaded, latest version) mcpatcher.jar into your "applications" folder.
-- it doesn't have to go there -- lots of people put in on their desktop -- but i do it to keep things well-organized; apps go into my applications folder. if you end up using mcpatcher a lot, you can drag it to the dock like any other app.
6. move any downloaded texture packs into /yourUserName/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepacks.
-- again, you do not have to do it this way, but it's a matter of organization and control for me; i know where things are because i put them there. since you already have to use the finder for a clean minecraft install, might as well use it all the way.
-- for the purpose of debugging, please download the 32x version of this pack, which i know works 100% (and it is 500% more awesome), and try it with this pack alone: http://www.minecraft...asterpics-p469/
-- DO NOT unzip the texture pack! it must be zipped to be accessible to minecraft.
7. launch mcpatcher.
8. at the top, choose the backup minecraft file as your original file, and "minecraft.jar" as your output.
9. UNcheck everything on tab "mods" except for the first 2 options: HD textures and HD fonts. leave everything else as is.
10. click "patch".
-- mcpatcher will process for a short while.
11. when it's done click "test minecraft".
12. click on "texturepacks", choose the one you just put in there, click "done", and you should be good to go.
that's it. so, what happens when you follow these steps?
I recently formatted my computer, cleaned it and overclocked a bit. I've been getting everything set up the way I want it and today I was setting up Minecraft. I use John Smith texture pack that I've modified myself a bit and noticed two things.
1. The text is rather...more pixelated that it normally is. As though the font size has changed and lost quality or something.
2. Whenever I look off to the distance everthing's not as clean looking as it used to be. Like it's all of a sudden lower resolution or something. And during movement there's so much noise and static in the image it's REALLY noticeable.
that's an interesting problem.
it LOOKS like an anti-aliasing issue. but you said you've tried it with all relevant options on as well as off? do you see any difference at all when you change the options? and this is the only 32x texture pack with which it happens? you're not using vanilla johnsmith, but your own mix? any chance you might have accidentally shifted parts of the terrain.png by a pixel -- i'd think that'd show itself in more obvious ways, but maybe? how about the vanilla pack, have you checked against that? that's the first thing i'd examine at this point.
can some one explain this?

I have a problem. When I use the 1.4 Pre-release and patch my Minecraft it gives me just a black screen. No crash reports nothing. I tried everything to get it to work. I tried deleting Meta-Inf, deleting my WHOLE .minecraft folder and starting with a new fresh 1.4.jar but nothing works please help.

Kahr, I was wondering if you wanted to put up a link to the thread I've been working on that goes into detail about various features of MCPatcher for texture artists. Here is a link for it:
