A simple, yet powerful tool I've (re)coded in Java to make it cross platform and much more efficient than the older VB.NET counterpart you guys saw before. Just put in the username (it is case sensitive) of the user who's skin you want to download and its displayed in a preview box where you can proceed to save it.
I took the time to make sure this application did a good job of looking as native as possible, thus it looks good under Linux, Windows, and (afaik, I don't own a mac to test sadly) Mac OS X (if someone could get me an OS X screenshot that'd be great).
Download the .JAR file from the bottom of the post and double click to run it.
I noticed that it only takes forever on the first skin you enter. After that, it shouldn't take very long
Currently working with MonoDevelop in Ubuntu to get this to work; I may have to rewrite in C# ;P
I do not have a Mac to test this MonoDevelop stuff on so if someone volunteers to do this, they will get credit for days c:
BUMP: I did a little bit of Hackintoshing on my old Dell and got 10.5 Leopard to work :wink.gif:
That's not the point though! After installing Mono, I managed to get it to run just by typing in "mono 'Minecraft Skin Stealer.exe'" (without quotes)
So for now, Mac users have at least SOMETHING to play around with ;P
I'm installing this (need the .netframework) as we speak, ill edit with my results.
Edit: it works perfectly no problems at all. thanks for making this.

I don't think I have my skin saved anywhere on my computer anymore, so I used this program last night to get my skin back so I could do some edits to it. Anyway, thanks for this program!
My old computer did the same thing while i was using small basic(ages ago!). It's the software not realizing that someone else made it, and trying to flag that up.
Also...
I'm also offering the source for those who want to take a look at it, or edit it, or improve it. All I ask is that, if you edit it, you give me some credit =)
Feel free to add it into your own VB.NET program such as a suite of various MC tools, again all I want is a mention =) Minecraft Skin Stealer Source.zip (~1 mb)
The source was built for use in Visual Studio (specifically Visual Basic)
Anyways, have fun guys and It was probably done a million times, but I feel like releasing this, why be sefish? =P
The link doesn't work lol! it comes up with an error saying the file doesn't exist (error 404)
First I have to say is: VB and C# use the same .net libraries and there are many code converters to convert vb.net code into c# code o.O, so when its too difficult in c# it´s also too difficult in vb.net
You misunderstood. I never said it WAS difficult i said it was BEING difficult. I've since solved the problem but decided Java was a better choice for this tool
Updated with the new Mac app bundle I compiled in a virtual machine. Check it out guys, I worked hard to keep this as nice and native to as many platforms as I could :-)

Virus? Wow. What are you using? Free software? That might be you problem. There are no viruses in this as I'm using the program now. =P
No problem! ^-^
Well, the way I see it is. Take someone like iJevin's skin, edit it, and then use it for your own personal use!
Well that's your computer's problem T_T
I distributed the source code, virus makers do not distribute source code now do they?

Please fix!
And why not? Maybe you want to make your own skin based off someone else's or you want to screw with a friend.
