is someone ever going to give me or any other person a actual correct response as to why the sound never works?!?!? seriously, been trying to figure this out since 1.6 came out... and no one has said anything at all that works.

In Risu's thread, is a patch. The author claims what's happening is multiple Mods trying to activate the sound system. I downloaded and installed the patch and (knock wood) mine works OK.

I lied! I just tried launching my Modded the hard way world using Magic. No sound.
If you are using Magic Launcher, I would load Mod Loader (or Forge if that is what the Mods require) as the first item in your Magic Launcher mod list, and then load the mods after that.
Hopefully that will work.

I kept watching YouTube videos for Magic Launcher Load Mods for Mac until I found this one: sonicforevr showed to click the mod folder, select All, Option Click (right click) and choose "Compress # of items," then that makes an "archive.zip," then change the name from "archive" to "name of mod," so it is "nameofmod.zip, then put that into the User/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/Mods folder. Then in MagicLauncher when I selected "Add" it worked! I put in ModLoader, OptiFine and TooManyItems. I couldn't get MoCreatures to work. The first 3 looked the same at the point of Selecting All and Compressing. MoCreatures, when I clicked the folder had folders inside of folders. So somehow I am not selecting the right things to "compress." Today, I was trying to do a Magic Launcher version with Forge so we could do Galacticraft. So far that is not working. What should I do for the mods with folders inside of the folder?
Ok so here the instructions for all of you to get mods working (at least I got all of mines that were updated so far)
You first start minecraft with the vanilal launcher once.
You go and download forge installer, and you use it to install forge.
You start that forge profil with the vanilla launcher once.
You go into magic launcher and tell him to use the forged version
...
Finally: It happen (it happened to me at least) that when you try start the game, magic launcher doesn't start it... Don't panic!
Go to the vanilla launcher, to the forge profil and start it in vanilla.
Then return to ML and use the 'test' button in the setup window.
If that work, then you should be able to play fine.
That's it! Fel' out!
Thank you! What is Vanilla Launcher? I did download the Forge Launcher, but I don't know what to do with it. I double clicked it, but I don't think anything happened. I put it in Magic Launcher and 'Add' and that didn't seem helpful.
What mod are you using other than optifine?
Does you minecraft sound work if you use the vanilla launcher?
I've currently got (in order) ModLoader, Rei's Minimap,and Optifine. When I disable all of them it works, just as soon as I enable one or all the sound disappears. And yeah it works fine
*EDIT Hold on, I figured it out. I just need to switch texture packs to get the sound working. Problem solved

ok, so I got 1.6.2 to work, I had it in a different profile. I didn't log in so I had not saved a last login. then after a while, I didn't have internet, so I played offline. I thought I had at least saved my name, but it didn't do it. in fact, it was like i've never logged in once. Is that intended? if not, could you make saving at least your name possible with offline mode?

It connects to AdF.ly, DO NOTHING; watch the timer in the upper right count down to zero and change to "SKIP AD". The only thing you EVER click at AdF.ly is that SKIP AD! All the other crap is there to lure you into something you don't want. Don't be Charlie Tuna and bite.
I'm having problem starting up MC 1.6.2. I went to Setup and tried selecting the "1.6.2" Environment but it only gave me a "Classic", "13w19a", and a "13w19a-mcpatcher" (This is the only snapshot I've tried out and I tried using mcpatcher to install a mod, but didn't work). Its not giving me the option for "1.6.2" and when I try launching the "Classic" Environment (I assumed that one would work, but it didn't) with Optifine for 1.6.2 it gives me this:

Use the Forge Installer, it will create a new folder in your 'versions' folder. Then open Magic Launcher, click 'Setup', then 'Environment' and then chose the folder named like 'Forge(version)...'

In Risu's thread, is a patch. The author claims what's happening is multiple Mods trying to activate the sound system. I downloaded and installed the patch and (knock wood) mine works OK.

Thank you! I kept watching YouTube videos for Magic Launcher Load Mods for Mac until I found this one:
sonicforevr showed to click the mod folder, select All, Option Click (right click) and choose "Compress # of items," then that makes an "archive.zip," then change the name from "archive" to "name of mod," so it is "nameofmod.zip, then put that into the User/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/Mods folder. Then in MagicLauncher when I selected "Add" it worked! I put in ModLoader, OptiFine and TooManyItems. I couldn't get MoCreatures to work. The first 3 looked the same at the point of Selecting All and Compressing. MoCreatures, when I clicked the folder had folders inside of folders. So somehow I am not selecting the right things to "compress." Today, I was trying to do a Magic Launcher version with Forge so we could do Galacticraft. So far that is not working. What should I do for the mods with folders inside of the folder?
Thank you! What is Vanilla Launcher? I did download the Forge Launcher, but I don't know what to do with it. I double clicked it, but I don't think anything happened. I put it in Magic Launcher and 'Add' and that didn't seem helpful.

I've currently got (in order) ModLoader, Rei's Minimap,and Optifine. When I disable all of them it works, just as soon as I enable one or all the sound disappears. And yeah it works fine
*EDIT Hold on, I figured it out. I just need to switch texture packs to get the sound working. Problem solved

ok, so I got 1.6.2 to work, I had it in a different profile. I didn't log in so I had not saved a last login. then after a while, I didn't have internet, so I played offline. I thought I had at least saved my name, but it didn't do it. in fact, it was like i've never logged in once. Is that intended? if not, could you make saving at least your name possible with offline mode?
Yes, to protect your self - disable any pop-up controller then:

On page 1, post 1, click the preferred download link.
It connects to AdF.ly, DO NOTHING; watch the timer in the upper right count down to zero and change to "SKIP AD". The only thing you EVER click at AdF.ly is that SKIP AD! All the other crap is there to lure you into something you don't want. Don't be Charlie Tuna and bite.

Not sure what the problem is.
I am using a Mac by the way.
*NOTE* I found the problem I just had to move the install folder to where it would usually download it.
You just need the latest version of the launcher which is 1.1.6

Use the Forge Installer, it will create a new folder in your 'versions' folder. Then open Magic Launcher, click 'Setup', then 'Environment' and then chose the folder named like 'Forge(version)...'
I think it should help
