HEY! I downloaded the new 0.9.8 and i have strange internet problems... I can't download anything (On chrome it says it's stopped, on FF it crashes it) And minecraft and other programs that connect to the internet just... close... MagicLauncher is probably the virus because Emsisoft A^2 detects an Trojan.Java.Qhost!E2 in the file... Can someone test the file with other anti-viruses? I need to know if it's just a fake error or the file is really a virus.
Hey I got this problem when staring the New update on Magic Launcher 0.9.8 Like it was fine with 0.9.7 until I downloaded the update could you help me I'm really Confused this is what it say.

I suspect someone has already requested this, but can you add:
1)A system whereby config files are copied from one install to the next (its a pain to remember to do it each time I try a different minecraft loadout).
2)A method to allow a single copy of each texture pack (rather than one for each installation path).
All in all they are just nice to have rather than essential and the program as it is is wonderful.

I am just curious, could you add maybe a texture pack thing like the mods have? Also there are buttons for force update and downgrade, but they are unavailable are these still a WIP or what?
Thanks!
I tried running a modified .jar, and I keep getting this error. It seemed to suggest residual mod files, or something like that, trying to run, but not being able to because I had deleted all my mod files. So I deleted my whole .minecraft folder (except my saves, options.txt, lastlogin), and I still kept getting this:

Whats wrong with it?do i have to re-install it? please help what do i do!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Notice the "Could not reserve enough space for object heap". I am no expert but I'd say your account doesn't have administrator access which it would need to reserve space for something.

Incompatible with what? What other mods are you trying to use that can be causing that message? It's not saying Forge is incompatible with Magic Launcher. It's saying it's incompatible with another mod.
Screenshot?
Also, you do have Forge listed before other mods right?

You don't have enough free memory available to run with 1024MB. Try reducing it to 512MB instead. Also, make sure to close out of everything else in the background that you can.
@comaskid & @xdarkztarx: Also try with an UNMODIFIED minecraft.jar file.
@comaskid: Also try using Magic Launcher from a different folder location on your computer rather than directly from the desktop. You can always place a "shortcut" to the program onto your desktop instead of the actual program. In fact, excluding any Windows built-in icons, you will also want to do the same with anything else that you have on the desktop. Move any files/programs/etc. to other locations on your hard-drive instead. If you need a quick access to them from the desktop, just use shortcuts instead. Things on the desktop that are not shortcuts get loaded into memory when the system starts. Therefore, they take away from any of the free memory that you might have had available. Those programs/files/etc. will also make booting your computer slower. Again, use "shortcuts" instead and you won't have those problems.
sp614x,
I hadn't thought about it before, but that may be contributing to a lot of people's problems with memory even if they should normally have enough memory available. You might want to put a note in the OP that you should NOT run Magic Launcher directly from the "Desktop" (and to possibly use a "Shortcut" for it instead) for best performance. Also, maybe an additional note that clearing additional non-shortcut items from the Desktop can also help free up some memory.

Huh? I run it from the desktop and it runs fine on 1024MB configurations.
Huh? I run it from the desktop and it runs fine on 1024MB configurations.
And, your machine is exactly like everyone else's? Same exact hardware? Same exact software? Same settings? Same everything?
Note, SOME people have problems running with 1024MB. You obviously aren't one of them. I never said anything like everyone has that problem. You can't allocate more memory to Java than what you will have freely available to be able to allocate at the time.
Let's explore at least one scenario where someone could have problems with trying to run with 1024MB:
Maybe they have only 2GB (2048MB) of RAM in their system. And, maybe they only have an integrated video that does not have its own dedicated memory so that it actually has to use some of the RAM from the system. Of course, that leaves less for everything else by reducing the actual system memory available to less than that original 2GB (2048MB) of RAM. Now, also take into affect any background programs/services that are running and anything else that might be loaded and what was still "free" has been reduced again. This does, to a certain varying degrees, include items on the desktop such as documents and other files including programs that do not actually need to be installed etc. So, if you have a lot of crap directly on the desktop rather than just shortcuts to those items, that adds an additional factor that you also have to account for. It doesn't take long to all of a sudden not have 1024MB of RAM free that you can actually allocate to Java/Minecraft/Magic Launcher.
And, that was just one scenario.
Of course, Minecraft doesn't actually need that much memory allocated to Java to run. If you're using the default texture pack and no mods, you will be fine with allocating just 256MB of RAM to Java. Of course, a higher-resolution texture pack may bump you up to needing to allocate at least 512MB of RAM to Java for Minecraft to work. I personally need to allocate at least 512MB myself. But, the default 1024MB is more than is actually "needed" in most circumstances regardless of whether or not you can actually run everything fine with that amount of memory allocated to Java for Minecraft.
every time I use Magic Launcher[which is all the time] I keep getting this bug where my Shift key is stuck, and i can't fix it without closing Minecraft and bringing it up again, can you fix this?
Well, the point of my question was: how is running ML from the desktop related to memory and performance?
(I do happen to have merely 2GB of ram and minecraft tends to be quite laggy, perhaps running ML from somewhere else could fix it?)
I have "ModLoader" compressed into a .zip with ONLY class files and no folders, but it still shows an error "no mods found". Could this be solved or does it not work for a mac on leopard?
well, thats your problem. when there's only a few class files and no folders, ML will always show "no mods found". it is not a problem in most cases. just run it and try. if it doesnt work, it is likely because of something else.
Fake error. Virus... lol
Awesome, thanks!
