I just spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to get Minecraft to launch on my PC using JRE 7. The problem was that it would not allow me to login. I could play the game offline, but not online. After some troubleshooting, I found that the problem is a compatibility issue between my firewall software (Outpost Firewall Pro) and Java 7. By default Java 7 want's to use IPv6 and it would seem that the current version of Outpost has an issue with this. I've seen others have this same issue as well and whatever they are using for their firewall software may also be having a similar issue so I'm hoping that my struggles and research will benefit others as well.
I found a command line option to force java to utilize IPv4 instead of IPv6. After some playing around, I finally figured out how to use the stock Minecraft launcher to work on my PC (Win 7 x64 with JRE 7_u3 x64). That option is:
java.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
To pass this command line argument to java, you need to precede it with -D (it is case sensitive).
Now to get this to work with Magic Launcher is a bit different but very similar since Magic Launcher uses Javaw.exe and not Java.exe. The syntax for passing the argument is the same, but the overall command structure is a bit different.
Note that if you're using JRE 6 that the Java\jre7 would instead read Java\jre6 and if you're using a 32 bit version of Java on a 64 bit Windows OS, the environment variable %ProgramFiles% would instead be %ProgramFiles(x86)%.
You can place this line in the target of a shortcut and where it says "Start in:" would be the path to your MagicLauncher.exe file.
Ok I will get 64bit Java and yeah I use windows 7, but I have no idea how to get rid of that gap :\
I noticed the path shows that minecraft.exe is (perhaps) on your desktop ??
[ /C:/Users/Aaron/Desktop/Minecraft .exe ]
Perhaps the name of the shortcut on your desktop has a {space} in it.
If so maybe you could rename it to remove the space....
Pretty big problem over here, I do hope someone can help me.

is anyone going to help me with my problem? dont mean to be impatient, but ive had problems with my questions no being answered. here's my post:
im having a huge problem. any files i make while i have magic launcher do not appear in the magic launcher file selection at all. ever. so i cant change the directory of any files with minecraft in them. and if i make a new folder in magic launcher, it doesnt appear in windows explorer.
not to mention its not even letting me use that jar anyway, since i even switched it with another .minecraft that was already registered in magic launcher.
Pretty big problem over here, I do hope someone can help me.

So, um, help?
IC2 goes in the mods folder, not the jar (should appear in external mods window)
Sorry, none of that makes any sense. Why are you "making files" through magic launcher?
ok, so first, of all, i have 2 .minecraft folders.
one of them is used for a server that im on and requires certain mods that arent compatible with the ones i like to use.
so using magic launcher and anycraft, i have a second .minecraft that i use for single player. this one has modloader, modloadermp, single player commands, zombe's mods, fusion's carpet mod, and wireless redstone.
i want to install redpower, so i tried to install forge, but it crashed minecraft.
i gave up for awhile
i tried it again (after changing 1 file that shouldnt have made a difference), and the only thing that happened was, it, instead of minecraft crashing, didnt even launch it. instead it gave me this error log.

then, i tried launching it with the normal launcher(by temporarily switching it with the .minecraft i use for the server), and i got the same thing.
i then changed the directories around, to make it more organized, and so i tried to change the directory in magic launcher.
then, i saw another problem. magic launcher's directories are messed up.
what windows saw: more jars/.minecraft
what magic launcher saw: more jars/AnyCraft_Latest/AnyCraft_6.1/with mods/.minecraft
the anycraft folders, and the with mods folder dont exist any more.
ok, so first, of all, i have 2 .minecraft folders.
one of them is used for a server that im on and requires certain mods that arent compatible with the ones i like to use.
so using magic launcher and anycraft, i have a second .minecraft that i use for single player. this one has modloader, modloadermp, single player commands, zombe's mods, fusion's carpet mod, and wireless redstone.
i want to install redpower, so i tried to install forge, but it crashed minecraft.
i gave up for awhile
i tried it again (after changing 1 file that shouldnt have made a difference), and the only thing that happened was, it, instead of minecraft crashing, didnt even launch it. instead it gave me this error log.

Yeh, when you make a new profile that points to a different directory, you have to point ML to the new jar and the new mods dir. Change the base directory in the advanced tab, then select the correct jar file. That should get it sorted. And don't forget to click OK before closing ML or it won't save any changes.
If it somehow won't let you get away from that nonexistent directory, try deleting the profile and starting over from a copy of default.

thanks, it worked
edit: well almost. for some reason, minecraft forge doesnt seem to be compatible with ML. it works fine until i install forge, then it gives me that same error log i mentioned, and it doesnt launch minecraft at all
edit: i might've been using a server version, since the download links for forge are kinda weird and complicated. i'll redownload it, and try again
IC2 goes in the mods folder, not the jar (should appear in external mods window)
Unfortunately, that didn't fix anything.

This saddens me. :<
That fixed your original problem, now you have to go edit the ic2 config and find a different block id. Try something in the 180-199 range first. Or get NEI, it has an option to show unused block ids.

Hm, I couldn't find any block options in the IC config file. Though, it seems that IDresolver has some problems with custom launchers, I gotta poke around at that.
I am encountering a problem with mine. Modloader 1.1 seems to be the problem but i'm not sure. Here is my report. Please help

It should say 'client' somewhere in the filename.
Forge works fine, I've been using it and ML for weeks now. Even when you get it working it'll say "NO FORGE" in red, just ignore that.
Hm, I couldn't find any block options in the IC config file. Though, it seems that IDresolver has some problems with custom launchers, I gotta poke around at that.
Derp. I got it backwards. There's some other mod you have that already has id 249. However, if you search for '249' in the IC config, you should still find it.

so how do i get forge working. i just get a blank white screen every time now :sad.gif:
i know im not the only one with forge problems...
edit: i did some research, and i learned that both modloader and forge have to be installed before optifine. well that fixes that. thanks for your help
hi!
I was having to do all that thru shell (linux) scripts, but this project provides java checks what I was unable to do.. thx vm!!
I think I am having some issues, may be you could point out what versions of modloadermp and forge have been confirmed to work?
if I use these I get the errors to the right:
. ModLoader.zip - OK
. modloadermp-b1.1R4-r2.zip - no mods found (I dowloaded it from http://www.mcportcen...hp?topic=1360.0)
EDIT: after long research :sad.gif:, finally I found the right modloadermp: http://www.minecraft...s-mputils-teams it now is: ModLoaderMp 1.1 v2.1.zip - OK, but the forge below is still the same..
. minecraftforge-client-1.3.3.13.zip - no Forge
when I look at the log, it is clean empty..
the console/terminal where I run MagicLauncher also have no logs (no exceptions neither info)
but... when I run the game on test it seems to be working!
so.. I have no idea if I have to fix something?
thx!
PS.:
I would like to suggest for a future release, a .class priority chooser, where you can disable individual mods classes (like Zombe that allows it), and where we could, despite of the mods order, make a specific class have priority over another mod that has priority (for all its classes); so we dont have to do these changes manually.
Another suggestion would be to be able to load folders also (not just files) so we could have extracted mods to work without having to zip them.
thx!
I found a command line option to force java to utilize IPv4 instead of IPv6. After some playing around, I finally figured out how to use the stock Minecraft launcher to work on my PC (Win 7 x64 with JRE 7_u3 x64). That option is:
To pass this command line argument to java, you need to precede it with -D (it is case sensitive).
The command would look something like this:
I have this in a cmd file.
[ /C:/Users/Aaron/Desktop/Minecraft .exe ]
Perhaps the name of the shortcut on your desktop has a {space} in it.
If so maybe you could rename it to remove the space....
When I first have my mods set up like this:
And I run minecraft, it runs fine. Though, View Log shows this:
And run minecraft, it crashes with the following error:
IC2 goes in the mods folder, not the jar (should appear in external mods window)
Sorry, none of that makes any sense. Why are you "making files" through magic launcher?
