Did you have MC open while trying to use NBTExplorer?
The game cannot be active while you modify it!
Lou
I use from the OP (page 1 post 1) of this thread NBTExplorer 2.7.6, HTH.
The client runs on my Mac; the server runs on a dedicated Linux box. Is that what you're checking? Or are you saying I can't be in the world - any world - on the client while also running NBTExplorer, even though I downloaded the .dat files to a completely different directory from where the game would run?
I recently used NBTExplorer to help destroy the surface world and Nether of my world, change out the terrain generation method and add a new seed without destroying anything in the End or the Spectral Realm (Modded dimension). Because I had to do a bit of digging figuring out how to get that all setup I decided to make a tutorial on how to do that and a few other things with NBTExplorer.
I keep having trouble to save playerdata attributes or anything for that matter. I'm using the RAR version, extracted it and I ran the utlity.exe as an admin, and then the explorer as an admin, but when I save it it gives me this error

Thank you for this tool! I had to use an NBT editor to reset the data for Morph on one of my modded worlds and NBTEdit is outdated, so I came to this. It really helped me out. Again, thank you for making this tool.

What I know about a Mac or Linux is nothing. On a PC you cannot have a world open and successfully use NBTExplorer.
If you had tried it without having MC active you'd know too!
Perhaps you'd even have solved your NBTExplorer problem.

Do you also have a video on how to use a text editor?

the server is shut down and everything.
Is there a way to donate to you?
Great for looking behind the scenes, changing world names, etc.

pretty cool! what's the difference between level.dat_old and level.dat?
minecraft is for people 9 years old and under, and then there's mE hehexd
Sorry I replied to my own... I get a weird box with the letters IAPS when I tried to rename my item infront of my first word. How do I fix that?

The former is an old version of the latter.
can I use this to set default NBT like permanently make Pigmen aggressive?
Level.dat_old is just a backup of level.dat. You can safely delate it without corrupting your world
You are allowed to do it 😄
BTW just want to say that you can get a cool mod version of NBT explorer.
The original mod is not updated by the creator
but its updated by a some other dude here.
The Windows/Linux link only has a Windows version, and nothing for Linux.
Isn't it the msi file?
MSI files are Windows installer files. So no.
Download portable version. There's no native Linux version, but it should work in Wine with whatever .Net layer available there.
Please, add support long arrays. This is used in the chunk data in 1.13.

NBTExplorer has now been updated to support NBT long array tags.
