[edit]
Nevermind, my problem is Minecraft itself: the seed I'm typing in the world options and the result of "/seed" once inside the world are totally different half the time.
Your problem is undoubtedly the ever unforgiving invisible space character.
The seed input routine of Minecraft only sees a seed input as being a number if the following are true:
1. the input value is between -9,223,372,036,854,775,808 and 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 (without the commas)
(FYI - this is a 64 bit signed integer.)
2. only the characters +-0123456789 are entered. (+ and - can only be the first character if used)
3. Absolutely NO other characters are entered, visible or not.
Anything else, even though it looks like a number to you, will be passed on to the Java hashcode() routine to be "hashed" into a numeric result in the range of -2,147,483,648 through 2,147,483,647. Hashcode() uses 32 bit math so this is the range of a 32 bit signed integer.
What this means is that if you do a copy and paste of a numeric seed and accidentally grab a leading or trailing space character with the number you will trigger the hashcode() routine and definitely NOT get the world you wanted/expected.
If the /seed command gives you a result in the 32 bit signed integer range I can 99 and 44/100ths % guarantee that's what happened.

Not that it's terribly exciting, but I was wanting to use some new libraries (specifically for layout managers and CLI), so I've added a new "View licenses" window. (link to screenshot). The next step will be to address rob1992's issue using command line options. (With the new layout manager, I may even try to make a preferences menu!)
Also, I will likely include (with an option to disable) fading! (The debug information panel is disabled by default)
My goal with this update it to make AMIDST feel a bit more smooth and polished.
Edit
Forgot to mention: Swapping color profiles is now near-instant. It won't have to reload from Minecraft-- just from the cached biome data.

Also, and I found this out first hand, copying seeds from applications like web browsers can add invisible characters as well, even if you're absolutely sure you didn't copy a leading or trailing space. So, if someone posts a cool seed you want to try in a forum, copy the seed from the web browser, open a text only editor like notepad and paste it there, to get the pure number. Then be sure to remove any extraneous characters, copy only that number and paste it into the seed entry in the create new world screen.
How do I open a saved game? Amidst asks for a file, but which file does it want?
Actually that's a holdover from a much earlier version of Amidst.
Then you had to actually select the level.dat file in the save folder of the world you were interested in.
You still can if you so desire.
It was pointed out that this was an unneeded step since there was only one such file in each and every world folder so now all you have to do is select the world folder and Amidst does the rest.
(The above is true for Windows, I'm assuming it the same for other operating systems.)
I just tried loading a world by pointing at the level.dat file and Amidst produced a map but it was obviously incorrect.
For a second I was seriously confused but then I realized I had shot myself in the foot.
What I got was a MC 1.7.4 biome map with player position for a previous world. (Middle of an ocean, actually)
I had selected a world that was created well over a year ago, maybe more, and a Amidst was using MC 1.7.4.
There is no record in the level.dat file that indicates what world generator was used to produce the world map/chunk data.
Because of this problem, I've taken to putting something like 164 or 172 or 174 in my world titles to indicate what profile to use with it.

Has something happened? I downloaded AMIDST from here (not an hour ago) and what I got, mac os said 'is damaged and should be moved to the trash' when I tried to run it. Perhaps not yet ready for mavericks? I will try linux variant next, but ... yeah, just a ???

There's a generator version entry in the level.dat, but I'm not sure what it does or indicates. I only have two worlds here to look at and the older one has generator version set to zero, the newer one has it set to one, so it doesn't seem to correlate to the actual version of Minecraft at the time the world was created. I do recall it being added sometime in the last year or so, but I could be wrong on that. I also seem to recall figuring out what it was at the time, but again, that has slipped away from me as well.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
generatorName: The name of the generator; "default", "flat", "largeBiomes", or "amplified". Not case sensitive, but always written in the case here.
generatorVersion: The version of the level generator. The effects of changing this are unknown, but values other than 0 have been observed.
generatorOptions: Controls options for the generator, currently only the Superflat generator. The format is a comma separated list of block IDs from the bottom of the map up, and each block ID may optionally be preceded by the number of layers and an x. Damage values are not supported.
I have yet to see any correlation between generatorVersion and any MC world generator extant.

So, it appears no one knows what generator version does. I do remember fiddling with it when it was first introduced, but I forget what results I ended up with. I probably fixed whatever problem I was having at the time and went on with my life.

Is there no more world information when it comes to things like how much water % biomes % etc. I love to share to my players a 8000x8000 world and tell them basic info on its makeup.
I got an error on 3.5 version:
Attempted to load non-minecraft jar, or unable to locate starting point.
How to solve this?
????
Type of computer?
Operating system?
Version of Minecraft?
Any mods?

Download for mac seems to be broken. Every time I try to open it up after I download it, it says the application is damaged and the only option it gives me is to move it to the trash.
I saw this error on my computer when selecting my custom profile (latest version, including snapshots, i.e. 1.7.4). When I tried again with the default profile (1.7.2), it worked fine.
I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8 on an iMac. I'm not currently running any mods.
Try 3.6-beta-2 (available for download from the BitBucket page) and get back to me.
Honestly, I still have no idea how popular AMIDST is/isn't. My focus has always been on making it function in the best way possible. It's good to see that people are finding it useful, though!

I'm running OS X 10.9 by the way.
From what I understand Mac OS X is lying to you. I could be wrong, but I believe this is gatekeeper telling you that it's not signed. I think you should be able to put it on your exception list. Unfortunately, the only Mac I have is running Mac OS X 10.7.5, so I just don't know.
Fast edit:
I did a bit of googling... it appears I can fix this issue on my end. Expect this to be resolved in 3.6.

All I'm going by is the download stats.
Granted, some of the later downloads are people upgrading, like me.
Since Amidst v.3.4 came out on 9/29/2013 total downloads of all versions is 115107.
V3.4.exe itself has been downloaded 77333 times and is still being downloaded even though newer versions exist.
At it's peak v3.4.exe was getting ~1700 downloads a day.
The rate for v3.5.exe right now is 1650/day or a little over one a minute.
If Amidst were a 99¢ app Skidoodle would be a thousandaire.
Personally, I'd be happy to make over $100,000 in less than 3 months.
Amidst is definitely the exception to the rule "You get what you pay for."
I certainly wish Skidoodle all the best in his paying gigs/endeavors.
