Mod Tools is a tool not an mod-pack/mod downloader. Mod Tools helps you install mods, you are still required to download the mod you want to use. Mod Tools will not install anything else except what you tell it to add.. and so if the mod you are trying to install requires you to install Mod Loader then you will have to install it before installing the actual mod you would like to use. Mod Tools helps you add mod files to minecraft with just a few clicks instead of copying/pasting/deleting all those files.
Watch a tutorial on how to use it, below.
How it works: 1) Find the mod you would like to install, download it and start Mod Tools 2) In Mod Tools Click on "Install Mod" and select the Mod you downloaded 3) Thats it, mod tools will then add the mod to minecraft..and you are done.

ONE CLICK INSTALL*(img below)
With mod tools there are two different install options, the first is "Install Mod". With this option, the mods default location for the installation will be to minecraft.jar unless the modder has set up the files according to Mod Tools "Install Mod" standard.(Which can be found below) or if the mod is on the compatible list it can be installed by downloading directly from the mod thread/site and installing as soon as downloaded. ( Video Tutorials Below)
MANUAL INSTALL*
Manual installer is sort of a shortcut it helps you access minecraft files with ease so you can add mod files yourself!
Just click where you want the files to go i.e Mods Folder ..the actual folder will open, just drag your files over and you just installed to mods folder same way for all other files...
I'm sure no modder likes for their hard work/endless hours of codding to be a part of a 'mod package' or 'installers'. With Mod Tools it's not, to install mods with Mod Tools the mods don't get downloaded from any other location and or ad.fly link. The mods get downloaded straight from the modders thread/site and are then installed using the simplicity of Mod Tools. So set up your mods to be installed with Mod Tools with just one click!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are a modder now you can set up your mod files to work with mod tools with ease.
Let Mod Tools install your mods with just a click..
How it works:
If your mod requires class files/pics/folders that need to go into minecraft.jar then next time you zip your mod all you have to do is put the class files/pics/folders into a folder called 'class' or 'jar' or 'minecraft.jar' either one of the folders will take the contents of that folder into minecraft.jar and the same follows every other resource and/or mod file.
Explained below(hopefully)
For mod files that need to go to minecraft.jar --> use folders --> 'class' or 'jar' or 'minecraft.jar'
For mod files that need to go to mods folder --> name folders --> 'mod' or 'mods'
For mod files that need to go to resources folder --> name folders --> 'resource' or 'resources'
For mod files that need to go to minecraft folder --> name folders --> 'minecraft' or '.minecraft'
For mod files that need to go to bin folder --> name folders --> 'bin'
For mod files that need to go to config folder --> name folders --> 'config'
For save files that need to go to save folder --> name folders --> 'save' or 'saves' or 'world'
For texture files that need to go to texture folder --> name folders --> 'texture' or 'textures' or 'texturepacks'
You can have as many files/folders in any of the above folders, once added just zip and name your mod. All that's important is for files to be in either of the folders named above.
There is no need to add anything else, Mod Tools users will just download your mod from your thread and install without going through any complicated process. Hopefully this makes our community a lot more streamlined and so you focus on codding instead of making tutorial videos :biggrin.gif:

Looks nice. How does it know what files to put into the Minecraft.jar?

If you'd like to help me out, I think the best thing you could do is check out my YouTube channel, even more than voting up my reputation, though that'd be nice too.
Looks nice. How does it know what files to put into the Minecraft.jar?
It checks the files in a mod/zip against a list of programmed mods files then moves files to the correct folders etc. and if it's not on the list of programmed mods it defaults to taking the contents of a zip/mod and adding them to the minecraft.jar then as new mods are created the modders can place their files in certain folders (explained above)and it will install into those folders so no programming will be necessary.. really simple but can get tricky with a large verity of mods out there so the list of compatible mods will enlarge slowly
What you could do to make it a little simpler (not necessarily on your end) is to check what the extension on the file is. If it's .class or such, move it into the minecraft.jar. If it's a .jar file, move it into the .bin file (because that's where a lot of them go, it seems) and for folders with image files in them, you could also move those into the minecraft.jar or wherever they most often go. Not perfect, but probably more accurate.

Yes that's definitely true. However I came up with some issues with mods being zipped/placed in few different layers of folders some of which had files that needed to be moved out of those folders then placed into jar etc..(so it ends up contradicting each other) I can't seem to get that sorted correctly.."trying to work on that".. so I just opted to do a few pre-programmed ... I think the best option is to have the modders follow a really simple standard so an installer can be made for all
this is awesome i needed a manual installer that makes things easier :biggrin.gif: i dont like the automatic way of installing :tongue.gif: it always screws up
Hmmm, looks interesting. Even though I have been working on a similar tool previously (MCModInstaller) I STILL prefer to install mods by hand. Pretty much anyone with half a brain can install mods manually, plus you CAN'T blame a tool for screwing up your minecraft install if something goes south. lol
