This is a little map generator I wrote that creates a random map with rolling hills, streams, and trees that are much larger and more realitic than those created by the normal Minecraft level generator - big enough for treehouses (or tree cities).
The entire map is surrounded with an uncrossable adminium wall making it a literal "walled garden".
The program is Windows-only, but the maps it makes should work anywhere.
I'm definitely interested in any feedback or suggestion anyone might have.
To run:
1. Unzip ForestMaker to its own folder
2. Run MapGenerator.exe
3. Enter a folder name and a map side in chunks when prompted
4. Copy the world folder created to either the "world" folder in your Minecraft folder (for SMP) or the
%appdata%\.minecraft\saves folder.
This could make for an interesting server map just because of the way it forces resource limitation. The only resources avaialble are wood, dirt, and sand (well, and saplings). This is partially intentional, as fire tends to go crazy in these maps.
Very cool map, It a nice change from the normal MC generated maps.

"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever"
You are the map gen god, what with the planetoids, gold tunnel and this. But I was wondering if you could make a general map gen, where I could make the map completely flat or huge floating islands like skylands. Then you could add presets like rolling desert, your planetoids map gen, etc.
Then you could have all your map gen in one place. If you can't because the file would be too big, could you just make a flat map gen?
Thanks

I've actually never looked at the Minecraft source, hence not knowing how to change tree growth. I've avoided doing anything involving the game code itself. I've been trying to work with what I can do in just generating levels.
Three things:
One: how do your map generators work then?
Two: You should make a mountain range generator so that we can visit the lands of the small :Notch:s
C: It seams like the trees on the map that was generated were kinda spaced out. I am wondering if map size has anything to do with tree density.
Um do planted trees like the ones you see in the picture?
Nope. I don't know how to change the way trees frow in game. You can make arbitrarily large maps though, so you should never run out of the big ones.
Let me get this straight. You know how to make an awesome-sauce map generator but you don't know how to make trees change sizes. This seems contradictory.
To generate a large tree using the generator required knowledge of the NBT file format Notch uses. Which is publicly available. To modify trees growing in game would require splicing notch's code for doing so. Which would A) Make is a client-code injecting mod which Notch has said he is against and :cool.gif: require a whole lot of work tracking through notch's java code in minecraft.jar.
This is very nice, I love the more realistic trees and the little hills and ponds. But it doesn't feel like a real forest to me. The trees are too sparse, and there isn't enough variety in the tree forms or the distance between trees. I want trees to grow so thick in places that monsters spawn in the darkness under their leaves. Maybe a "density" variable? And I want a random chance of trees with wider trunks, sometimes so thick I can hollow out a room inside like a Keebler Elf and make cookies to go with my bucket of milk. Also, you should add plants and mushrooms as undergrowth.
uncrossable adminium wall making it a literal "walled garden"
Not really uncrossable, in my save it only goes up at sky level, which mean's you can jump over it, which is suicidal from that height, though i luckily fell into water lol. Then i used minutor to locate a way under the adminium wall. There was actually a pool which crossed under the wall. Then i had to dig up about 50 blocks. Then i made some ladder's and connected the two area's.

Cool idea man i like will download tomorrow!

Any idea if a world made by this generator could have a portion copy & pasted into a normal world with the MapDeleter?

Thanks for reading and keep up the great work!
I see what you did there
Excellent map generator. Combined with DecayingLeaves i can build the log cabin of my dreams

I LOVE SHAROSE
Realized it is because it needs the gzip there. Works fine if you have that too. Just not a very graceful failure. :smile.gif:

I put the gzip.exe in a folder named "Gzip" and it worked for me. It kept error messaging before I put it in the folder.
Sleekcraft! Check it out!
