Like many others, I dislike the newer versions of Minecraft. Ever since Beta 1.8, the game has become more and more overcomplicated. Beta 1.8, and many versions after, changed fundamental mechanics of the game that had been the same since it's beginning. They took gameplay that was perfectly fine and downgraded it. Not everything in the newer versions is bad, though. Some changes that were made were beneficial. That's why I created BetaEnhanced. I want to make Beta more enjoyable, because it definitely isn't perfect.

IF YOU USE MODLOADER WITH THIS MOD, YOU MUST INSTALL THIS MOD LAST!
NOTE: You can change mellow to something else if you want. If you don't know how to install mods, it is recommended that you leave this alone. If you already have b1.7.3 in your versions folder you don't need to start Minecraft with that version again.
1. Head to the Minecraft launcher and click on "Edit Profile"
2. Enable "Allow use of old "Beta" Minecraft versions (From 2010-2011)"
3. Select the version b1.7.3 and save the profile, click Play and after Minecraft launches, close the launcher
4. Go to .minecraft/versions and make a copy of b1.7.3
5. Move the copied folder to .minecraft/versions
6. Rename the copied folder to mellow
7. In the folder, rename the jar to mellow.jar and delete the .json file
8. Extract the mod zip to whatever folder you want
9. Copy mellow.json from the extracted folder to the mellow folder
10. Open mellow.jar with 7zip or something similar
11. Delete META-INF and copy the classes from the extracted folder to the jar
12. Select mellow as the version in the launcher
Known Bugs/Issues:
- Clocks with custom animations are broken
- Animated textures use a lot of ram
- Animated textures cause lag spikes on high resolution packs
I totally love the minecraft beta 1.7.3 and I'm part of these guys enjoying this old version. I was very interested in some other projects like "Back 2 Beta" by dopplgngr, "Minecraft Beta 1.7.4" by _Tom_ or "Retro modding" by FyberOptic. One problem : theese projets are now discontinued. I searched the web to find some other guys modding this version and I just found you. Your mod looks very nice, please don't abandon
I am very surprised that people actually like this mod! Don't worry, I definitely won't be abandoning it And yes, I am using mcp. I haven't had much free time lately, but I will try to release an update sometime soon.
I have just installed this despite not being 100% sure what it does haha. I quit Minecraft after the full release and today is the first time I have played it since! My favourite version was always beta 1.7.3, for me it went downhill from there. I wish there was a popular factions server on beta 1.7.3, those are some of my best gaming memories.
Anyway, don't give up on this project and I hope we see more beta 1.7.3 mods come out cause it's a great version of MC
PS: Newbie question. I followed the install directions and now don't see my saved survival game when I am playing Mellow version, any idea what I did wrong?
I totally agree, beta 1.7.3 is my favorite version as well. It currently isn't anywhere near finished, but sometime in the future I may be releasing another beta mod that I have been working on. As for the save not showing up, I don't know. I will look into this.
With this mod I find that torches placed on top of blocks(so not on the sides) are bugged and show a weird floating torch next to it with no animation. Can post a screenshot if needed but I assume this would be the same for you... It's annoying enough that I have to play without the mod despite all the nice features.
Didn't know that was happening. It is fixed now, will release an update for this soon. I really appreciate the bug reporting, I often miss obvious things like this. Also, question about the save problem, were you using the default .minecraft directory when you created that world?
Great that you've fixed it No problem reporting bugs. I fixed the save problem, yes I created the world with the default directory and just copied my save into the other folder. Let me know when the bug fix is released
I am currently going through the process of renaming this mod to BetaEnhanced. I have decided to do this because mod names are usually supposed to be related to its functionality, and Mellow really doesn't have anything to do with this mod's purpose. So no, this isn't new, it's just been renamed.
Don't expect anything new here, this is dead now.
This mod is much more interesting

Disclaimer: Optifine was created by sp614x. I do not own Optifine. None of it's code was used in the creation of this mod.
The next major update is coming in a few days, it will add a lot.
The big update is out!
This looks like a good mod. I have seen that many people still enjoy playing Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 with some mods similar to this one installed.
Wow, really? Thanks! I was going to abandon this project due to lack of interest, but maybe now that won't be the case!
Don't surrend ! This is a very interesting mod.

btw, how are you modding ? with mcp ?

Any chance to provide a new and alternative download link?
I want to stick with stock Minecraft, but you've been able to incorporate both FOV and some Optifine options that I would like to use.
