For better clarity, you could add « Shapeless » to any shapeless recipe description. Or use an image showing the « two arrows » shapeless recipe symbol.
Item with usage as ONLY intermediate crafting step go against default style for Minecraft crafting recipes. Either add more uses for the item, or even better make the final item craftable directly without that uneccessary extra steps.
Bottles :
I recommend you don’t use a bottle at all here. Again, reason is consistency : all minecraft crafting recipes for bottles involve a drinkable somewhere. This is not my opinion I'm just informing you : trying to use the basic consistency of the way the game already does stuff is usually good for any mod.
Also, the bottle isn’t even brewed but… crafted ? Again, that makes it into the one bottle recipe that doesn’t follow suit with the others. The black sheep of the family.
Maybe Glue could be made more like it was made by primitive tribes with this shapeless recipe :
1 Bone (collagen) + 1 Leather (collagen again) + 1 Seed (starch) + 1 Bucket of Milk (casein)
But Glue is not really needed anyway. Slimeballs already are sticky enough to be used directly into Sticky Pistons, right ?
"It is just a way to make it costlier to jusitfy the power" is like putting the cart in front of the horse. 1st you use the ingredients that make the most sense and fit the game's other recipes the best, and only then do you determine the power level according to that. Not the other way around. And it is better to have something a little bit underpowrered, then later on buff it a bit, than the other way around.
Duct Tape :
Standard way of Minecraft crafting recipes design style is to keep things simple with small numbers. Imagine if you needed to have a stack of 3 meat in order to be able to cook them. Why can’t 1 Wool + 1 String + 1 Bootle not just make a smaller number of Duct Tape ? Why force player to « amass more » in order t be able to make the wanted item? In all recipes this happens often but ALWAYS to make the recipe have same shape as final item. Try to make shape of recipe fit overall with shape of final item icon. Your Duct tape icon is vertical yet it’s recipe is horizontal ! Given that there is no real need nor obligation to fill up entire crafting grid, the recipe should be only 1 vertical strip of 3 items.
Also, try to keep variety amount of total number of different ingredients also as small as possible : No need to use both of ingredients that are already very closely linked (String + Wool).
In Minecraft, Simpler is often Better.
« Not on enchanted stuff »
This is not really some kind of mitigating factor. Can’t compare apples and oranges. The fact that Duct Tape won’t work on enchanted items doesn’t change one little bit the value it has on non-magical stuff.
The only valid comparison here is :
Unmodded vanilla non-magical tools repair cost
VS
Your mod’s effect on non-magical tools repair cost
Cost analysis :
From what is shown it seems it works just as well on diamond tools than the gold example. Of course nobody in their right mind uses gold tools a lot, they break way too fast and don’t work as good or as fast as diamond after all, so let’s stick to the obvious REAL usage, right ?
Thus diamond tools only.
In fact, your example should show the diamond sword instead of a gold one.
I rounded it up as if the recipe did make 9 Duct Tape instead of 8 – a very minor adjustment only to make the analysis look much simpler. But even with this small 11% boost, this is actually super mega ultra cheap !
Compare repairing a non-magical Diamond Axe :
Vanilla : Per-durability points, it is actually cheaper to just make a new one. 3 diamonds.
Your mod : 1/3 Sugar + 1/3 Slimeball + 1/3 Wool + 1/3 String + 1/3 Glass block.
But… even 10 Sugar + 10 Slimeballs + 10 Wool + 10 Strings + 10 Glass blocks = 1 Diamond would still be a super good deal !
Too cheap. Maybe if the recipe output only a single Duct Tape not 8. Even then, still very cheap.
Climbing Boots :
Getting the ability to climb walls directly is a huge ability. In a PVP environment it would in fact ruin many defenses. See that ravine with wanted ores in it’s walls ? No need to pillar up, or down, just climb ! Life made way easier. The « ultimate vertical elevator » : nothing special to do !
What durability would this wondeful new material armor tier –only for boots– would have ? Does it wear out as you climb? How fast does it wear out ? How fast would you climb up, sideways, or down ? Do you risk falling down ? If not, how can you go down any downward slope then ? Does it prevent jumping altogether ? Or is it the kind of item that is « all the good stuff only, and none of the possible drawbacks » (like many mods too often do the mistake of making) ?
In vanilla the ability to jump a couple more blocks higher costs either a super hard to make Beacon requiring winning over a bosss after a lot of grind, or to make a Potion of Leaping which uses a rare drop.
Compared to that, these boots are way overpowered
Personally I think wall climbing should only exist as an enchantment on boots, and with some clear drawback too. Not on a new type of boots.
TOTALLY freezing mobs with is way more uber than slowness potions :
No need for very limited inventory slots. Can be placed well in advance. Way too devastating in PVP.
Is there a max duration ? Does each sticky pad get destroyed afterwards ? Do they « vanish » after a while even when NOT stepped on ?
I assumed the pads were permanent until stepped on, and the stuck effect was temporary and the pad deletes itself after being stepped upon. Even there the mere ability to place it well in advance makes it incredibly powerful. Why would anyone make Slowness splash potions anymore ?
Conclusion :
Duct Tape as a super repair item is already more than enough and even then should be nerfed down a lot. This « napolitan ice cream effects » item just feels somewhat bizarre for me.
Still, it is a very nice little mod. And most sincere congratulations are in order for having made it : mod making is definitely NOT for the faint of heart.
Mr, Ouatcheur, your post has reminded me as to some of the reasons that my mod is in the WIP section. I have NOT worked on item balance at all, and the fact that you have to craft glue when slimeballs would be adequate is quite strange indeed, now that I think about it. As for the boots, you cannot self-arrest with them; any height you fall will be counted as fall damage, so you can only go up, not down or you will take fall damage. The idea that climbing walls consumes durability is quite a good one, and I might add it in the next update. The durability and protection is slightly less than that of leather boots. The duct tape sheet does NOT permenantly stick mobs/players, it only slows them down by a major amount, similar to cobwebs, but it is much easier to break. I may make it so that you can only tape a tool once, or maybe twice, but that would require a major overhaul of the repairing code, and that takes time.
The repairing aspect of my mod was actually more of an afterthought than a main goal, I only added it because everybody knows Duct Tape is used for fixing stuff. I will turn the icon, because the recipe IS horizantal.
If you would recommend something better than wool for the recipe, I would be glad to change the recipe. I put wool because i had no idea what else to use.
Also, I think that Slowness potions are really underpowered, especially considering how hard it is to obtain them in any PVP scenario other than factions.
I have been looking for a mod that adds duct tape for a while, so i decided to make one myself. Here it is.

Glue
Glue is an item used to craft Duct Tape. It has no other use. To craft it you place sugar, a slimeball, and a glass bottle on a crafting grid.
Duct Tape
Duct tape is an item that you can use to repair any tool.
HOWEVER, it is only duct tape, so it will remove any enchantments on your tool.
It is crafted like this:
Duct Tape Boots
Duct Tape Boots are so sticky, you can use them to climb on walls.
They can be crafted like this:
"Sticky" Grenades
"Sticky" Grenades are an item that can be thrown to create a patch of duct tape on the floor, which mobs will get stuck in.
This is what the stuff on the ground looks like:
They can be crafted like this:
Secret Items
These items cannot be crafted, and cannot be legitamately obtained in Survival, but are fun to mess around with... If you can find them >:)
Duct tape- Fixing things since slice bread

Hey I was wondering if I could help and be able to add stuff like duct tape walls or block and duct tape boat!
