This mod distributes ores into chunk-sized deposits. It's more or less done.
Features:
Generates chunk-sized veins
Can be applied to existing chunk with a chat command
Can be run server-side-only (use just the core module) or with items/blocks (use the content plugin too)
In-game prospecting to discover veins without having to dig holes everywhere (configurable)
Prospecting item, which requires a few simple
Can remove other ores from the world (configurable)
Intuitive config
Automatically discovers ores using the Forge ore dictionary
Configurable fraction of chunks turned to mines and blocks replaced per ore
Trace deposits, which replace random blocks, can be activated
Magma wells!
They extract ore-rich magma from below bedrock.
Placing a well without readying your cooling first is a Bad Idea™, as the moment they're connected and have space above they will start spewing superheated lava.
The only thing heat-resistant enough to survive superheated lava is graphite, which can be made by smelting coal blocks.
By combining the heat-storing power of iron and the high melting point of graphite, one can create effective heat sinks. They take twice as much heat as ordinary wells to heat up.
Heat sinks, unfortunately, are unable to radiate heat due to their storage-oriented design. They can, however, be turned into effective heat dissipators by adding iron bars, but at the cost of most of their heat resistance - they will quickly melt if kept even slightly above resting temperature.
Recent research indicates that it is possible to build an electric cooling machine. When powered by RF, a cryo-pump cools down, up to room temperature.
Any component can be cooled off by using a bucket of water on it, or more sophisticated operations can pump water in automatically.
It is possible to read the temperature of a magma well component using a thermometer.
Stuff I won't add:
Non-chunk-shaped veins or smoother ore distributions. Use something that supports this, like Geocraft.
Configuring vanilla ore generation. Use CoFH Core.
Changes:
Content plugin v0.1.1: Added magma wells and associated blocks and items. Compatible with ODT core v0.1, you don't need to re-download it.
Core v0.1.1: Added optional trace deposits.
Modpacks: Go ahead.
Source code: Included in downloads. If you fork this or use a substantial amount of code from this, please make it open-source too.
New version of the content plugin is out! v0.1.1 adds magma wells, which let you pump up enriched magma and cool it into ores. The process is renewable, but tricky to set up safely.
New version of the core module! It allows trace deposits to be generated by ODT, instead of requiring an external wgen modifier. *Trace deposits are single ores, not clumps.
Note: ODT's world generation, as of core v0.1.x, seems to only place ore seams in linear groups. This is because java.util.Random is a crummy algorithm that leaves linear artifacts. I hope I've fixed this now with version 0.2.0, but it'll generate worlds differently from before.
There haven't been any compatibility breaks between ODT Core and the content plugin, as far as I'm aware.

Is my RPG answerI guess
Did it work?
