I am working on a quick little mod that makes Minecraft's geology more realistic.
Its basic premise is that it adds a bunch of real-world rock types which overwrite most (but not all) vanilla stone. These rocks generate at realistic depths, and in realistic biomes (eg more shale and limestone in oceans).
To avoid making cobble rare, the cobble versions of my rock are usable as cobblestone in all recipes.
My rock behaves like vanilla stone with pickaxes - it generates smooth, drops cobble (unless using silk touch), can be smelted into smooth, and smooth can be crafted into bricks.
The mod also adds "Cave Crystals" - small crystals which can generate in caves. Standing near a crystal will give living entities small stat effects (eg red crystal gives 10s of resistance). Crystals cannot be mined directly - they drop shards which can be used to make lamps (which give no effects). However, they can be harvested with silk touch to get the actual crystal.
Also worth noting is that this mod is designed to feel like vanilla, so I will not be adding other features unless they fit very well with vanilla and the mod.
This mod is very in-development, so the shards have no name or icon yet, and the crystals do not generate (and rocks do not generate properly yet).
Nonetheless, here is the download link:
Looks promising, If you need any help with textures (I seems like you don't since they are all beautiful) I'm always available. Crystal caverns would be nice, especially if the crystals do damage to you if your on them; Making it very fun to try and harvest them since you would have to repel into the cavern or something along those lines.

"Crystal Caverns" is a bit misleading since the crystals will be fairly rare - maybe as common as diamond.
Also, most of the effects are positive (and were designed so all are useful to the player):
int dura = 200;
switch(color) {
case BLACK:
if (e instanceof EntityMob) {
EntityMob m = (EntityMob)e;
m.setAttackTarget(null);
m.getNavigator().clearPathEntity();
}
break;
case BLUE:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.nightVision.id, dura, 0));
break;
case BROWN:
if (e instanceof EntityPlayer) {
EntityPlayer ep = (EntityPlayer)e;
float sat = ep.getFoodStats().getSaturationLevel();
sat += 0.5F;
ep.getFoodStats().setFoodSaturationLevel(sat);
break;
}
case CYAN:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.waterBreathing.id, dura, 0));
break;
case GRAY:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.moveSlowdown.id, dura, 0));
break;
case GREEN:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.poison.id, dura, 0));
break;
case LIGHTBLUE:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.moveSpeed.id, dura, 0));
break;
case LIGHTGRAY:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.weakness.id, dura, 0));
break;
case LIME:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.jump.id, dura, 0));
break;
case MAGENTA:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.regeneration.id, dura, 0));
break;
case ORANGE:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.fireResistance.id, dura, 0));
break;
case PINK:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.damageBoost.id, dura, 0));
break;
case PURPLE:
if (!e.worldObj.isRemote && new Random().nextInt(12) == 0)
e.worldObj.spawnEntityInWorld(new EntityXPOrb(e.worldObj, e.posX, e.posY, e.posZ, 1));
break;
case RED:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.resistance.id, dura, 0));
break;
case WHITE:
e.clearActivePotions();
break;
case YELLOW:
e.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.digSpeed.id, dura, 0));
break;
Alright, how about a different idea. This is a cross-mod idea so I'm not sure which topic it should be in but both mods are made by you so... maybe a Crystal Cannon (Not made of crystals) which shoots them and does the effect to them. This would be for Rotarycraft and if this mod would be installed at the same time Rotarycraft would notice as allow you to craft and use the item (it would be ingame by default but its right-click would do nothing if it doesnt detect Geostrata). Could you also add ore variants for each stone such as Shale Iron Ore. For some mods it requires the Ore it self for some stuff so could you also use the ores in a pulverizer or macerator by making the game recognize shale iron ore as iron ore or is that impossible?

What you are asking for would dramatically change the feel of the game. I intend GeoStrata to be very vanilla-styled.
Also, to add ore variants would take up one block ID for each ore type. Not a good idea.

I am the developer of many mods, most famously RotaryCraft and ChromatiCraft.
Feel free to support me and my mods via PayPal or Patreon
Also, the name and description in the title aren't very interesting.
"Mystical Rocks" is a name I thought of.
Whether you use it or not, a new and improved name and a more appealing description would increase the popularity of the mod (hopefully)

I want to ask one thing. So you aren't going to make custom ores so the ores won't generate in other stones or they will look like just stone in marble.
There will likely just be vanilla stone-type ores. If this mod takes up 20 additional block IDs - more than even RotaryCraft - that will severely impede its use.

Maybe, but that name is wholly unfitting - I am going for realism.
Geo+?
Are the crystals always going to look like this? In my opinion, it'd be really cool if you rendered them as models instead.
Paving the way to a better world!
They are not Tile Entities, so they cannot use models.
PS
I remember you from the Forge Forums - that container which was not arranged correctly.
What are the others' opinions on it?
Done.

No, because metadata is already used for rock types.
He could change any of the things in the mod.
