Our mod is entirely unique, with handmade sounds and lovingly created graphics. We take pride in what we have accomplished. We plan on putting new ideas into action such as new GUI theories (never been done before), new research system, new ore system, new mobs, and plenty of lore![/center]
Armor, weaponry, clockwork constructions, all made of metal. The pounding of a hammer on anvil is the Steelworks song. Molten metal is the drink of the gods. In this Branch, you discover the ways of the metal and how to shape it to your desires. Create minions out of cog wheels, clockwork, and brass to do tasks. Most of the supplies you will need to further in this Branch come from the other dimension that all smiths know of. This dimension is that of heat, rock, and strange volcanic plantlife. And where there is foliage, there are prey, and where there are prey, there are predators...[/center]
Bend the magic in the air to your will, and create contraptions to capture the essence and base ingredients of what makes things tick. Having an extensive diversity of biological creatures, and knowledge of the unseen arts to study means you can learn things you never would have dreamed of. The other dimension for this Branch is one of mystery and magic, where mythology resides and stories sleep. What you thought wasn't possible, is possible. Using the items gained from each unique plant, creature, or even the material that makes up the other dimension, you can create tools, weapons, and spells to help you in your own strive of life itself. Be warned however, some things are better left alone...[/center]
The study of life itself is where Craftsmans is bound. Using the plants around you, create brews and tools to increase your speed, sight, and even knowledge. The products of creatures are what you create with. By hunting Buffalo, you can gather sinew to create stronger bowstrings, which may be used in creating new gadgets to fling projectiles. Discover antidotes to deadly poisons by extracting the venom, use the adaptations other creatures have to further your own chance of survival. Wood is your most precious building material in new gadgets, as it is flexible and strong, as well as abundant. Crossbows are discovered, Wine can be made, and new crops to satisfy your hunger are cultivated. However, be careful, for there is good life, but where there is good, there is evil...[/center]

Open source projects are always (in our minds) a great way to communicate to other modders and help those who can be confused at times with their own code. Also, it allows us to improve our own code as much as possible and get rid of bugs to prevent bogging down this forum post and making it 100x harder for us to patch. Another amazing feature about having this mod open sourced is that you guys can (technically) play pre-releases and follow along with all our updates just to show that we aren't faking this whole thing. About the Disciplines; will they be interchangeable in any way? Like skill trees?

Something in me (probably the RPG'er) kind of wants the different Disc's to be locked in a way that makes one have to choose to master only one of the three..
We plan on making the mod more of "Everything flows together". Such as, you may need a certain type of metal that is only capable of storing amounts of magic in it, and that is where MetalWorks comes into play, so you make the new metal, and use it for magical means. We're not trying to make a RPG mod, where you choose "Mage, Ranger, Warrior" though that is what it may seem. We just split the 3 "major" aspects of Medieval/Renaissance Lore, so that way we can make it unique in a sense that you can be more of a Arcaia kind of person, though later you may need a certain type of metal. Take Thaumcraft for example, a great mod, but It seems there is only one route to take. All the machines and researching is for one thingg; to further your magic. In our Arcaia discipline, It will have more then just getting your magic up, we want you to further you knowledge of Mythical Monsters, create potions, etc. You'll be more than just a mage, you'll be an Alchemist, a Seeker of Knowledge, someone who knows the mystical world better than anyone, even sometimes a Warrior.
The 3 disciplines are there so you know one part is not for the gain of another, would it make any sense if we said you need a Spinning Wheel for Arcaia? No. But it will be needed, to spin fabric. So by splitting the "groups" we can tell what will contribute to each other, even if they are split.
Sounds like a good idea. The reason I asked was one part curiosity, and one part suggestion, really. I immediately started dreaming about dedicated RP servers where interdisciplinary trade was key to success.. But hey! I`m getting way ahead of myself here (it has been known to happen..).
How about mod API; have you thought of releasing one to maybe make it easier to add custom disciplines and such?

By the way, what is the "Lore" or Story of this mod?
As mentioned, the mod is in development. We're working on the models, textures, sounds, anything that can be shown in a teaser or such. The Lore will be written soon, we have a few tricks up our sleeves for how it will be written as well. Let's just say the Lore will not simply be a few paragraphs of text you see on your computer..
As for the story, the stories will be based around how each of the three disciplines came to be. Who discovered Iron ore, who discovered how to slay a dragon, who discovered how to ferment seemingly ordinary crops, such as barely, yeast, and hops, into something much more; Ale.
The story of the mod will not be a simple "read it all and you're done" story. It will not be read to you in the form of a book on startup of the mod, there will be things to do, places to find, and worlds to discover in order to understand the Lore and story. Think of it as a much larger scale of people now, trying to find Davinci's lost works, except spread throughout the world and thrust into new dimensions.
As you can possibly tell, this mod will not be a simple re-texture of vanilla tools and adding new ore generation that only provides what vanilla Minecraft does already, this mod will be new worlds, new techniques, knowledge that would have been passed down from father to son. We wont just add the big things, we will add small things that you might not even noticed until the finished product is seen. Sounds will also be a large part of the Lore, perhaps a certain sound will signify when an age-old monster is about to pounce on you? Perhaps a new song could show you that you are near an artifact? Who knows, anything can happen in our mod right now, it is still in development.
I figured an in-depth explanation was in order, since we could not answer your question as you may have wanted, hopefully it will sate your curiosity

Actually, we were just talking about that. Me and Reas are the "founders" of the mod, everyone else has just as much say in this as we do. Me and Reas were talking about a donation button in the future, and as always, we discussed what would happen if we did (I know, I know, dumb question, but we still need to talk it over) and if we did, ultimately we may gain extra money. Now, as for this extra money, we discussed what we would use it for, If we would use it for a new program, such as a Model making program, or a Texture making program, anything that could help the *Mod* out. Then we discussed if we would either, A. Use it for the *Mod* or B. Distribute it between our team. Now, we picked the latter, because we figure anyone who has helped us so much, deserves a little something back. I personally wont be getting a very large share, if any, If we *did* get a donate button, but talking about money, is talking about the distant future. We want to get what needs done as soon as we can, not fantasize about how much money we will get.
But to answer your question shorty,
Yes. We will. But not before the mod is established and has a good version out. The reason we will, is for the sake of everyone who has helped us, and will be helping us.
Stop treating mod devs poorly. These people mod as a hobby or as a service to the community, they don't have to take your suggestion and you are not entitled to anything from them.

About the Disciplines; will they be interchangeable in any way? Like skill trees?
Something in me (probably the RPG'er) kind of wants the different Disc's to be locked in a way that makes one have to choose to master only one of the three..
We plan on making the mod more of "Everything flows together". Such as, you may need a certain type of metal that is only capable of storing amounts of magic in it, and that is where MetalWorks comes into play, so you make the new metal, and use it for magical means. We're not trying to make a RPG mod, where you choose "Mage, Ranger, Warrior" though that is what it may seem. We just split the 3 "major" aspects of Medieval/Renaissance Lore, so that way we can make it unique in a sense that you can be more of a Arcaia kind of person, though later you may need a certain type of metal. Take Thaumcraft for example, a great mod, but It seems there is only one route to take. All the machines and researching is for one thingg; to further your magic. In our Arcaia discipline, It will have more then just getting your magic up, we want you to further you knowledge of Mythical Monsters, create potions, etc. You'll be more than just a mage, you'll be an Alchemist, a Seeker of Knowledge, someone who knows the mystical world better than anyone, even sometimes a Warrior.
The 3 disciplines are there so you know one part is not for the gain of another, would it make any sense if we said you need a Spinning Wheel for Arcaia? No. But it will be needed, to spin fabric. So by splitting the "groups" we can tell what will contribute to each other, even if they are split.

As mentioned, the mod is in development. We're working on the models, textures, sounds, anything that can be shown in a teaser or such. The Lore will be written soon, we have a few tricks up our sleeves for how it will be written as well. Let's just say the Lore will not simply be a few paragraphs of text you see on your computer..
As for the story, the stories will be based around how each of the three disciplines came to be. Who discovered Iron ore, who discovered how to slay a dragon, who discovered how to ferment seemingly ordinary crops, such as barely, yeast, and hops, into something much more; Ale.
The story of the mod will not be a simple "read it all and you're done" story. It will not be read to you in the form of a book on startup of the mod, there will be things to do, places to find, and worlds to discover in order to understand the Lore and story. Think of it as a much larger scale of people now, trying to find Davinci's lost works, except spread throughout the world and thrust into new dimensions.
As you can possibly tell, this mod will not be a simple re-texture of vanilla tools and adding new ore generation that only provides what vanilla Minecraft does already, this mod will be new worlds, new techniques, knowledge that would have been passed down from father to son. We wont just add the big things, we will add small things that you might not even noticed until the finished product is seen. Sounds will also be a large part of the Lore, perhaps a certain sound will signify when an age-old monster is about to pounce on you? Perhaps a new song could show you that you are near an artifact? Who knows, anything can happen in our mod right now, it is still in development.
I figured an in-depth explanation was in order, since we could not answer your question as you may have wanted, hopefully it will sate your curiosity

Actually, we were just talking about that. Me and Reas are the "founders" of the mod, everyone else has just as much say in this as we do. Me and Reas were talking about a donation button in the future, and as always, we discussed what would happen if we did (I know, I know, dumb question, but we still need to talk it over) and if we did, ultimately we may gain extra money. Now, as for this extra money, we discussed what we would use it for, If we would use it for a new program, such as a Model making program, or a Texture making program, anything that could help the *Mod* out. Then we discussed if we would either, A. Use it for the *Mod* or B. Distribute it between our team. Now, we picked the latter, because we figure anyone who has helped us so much, deserves a little something back. I personally wont be getting a very large share, if any, If we *did* get a donate button, but talking about money, is talking about the distant future. We want to get what needs done as soon as we can, not fantasize about how much money we will get.
But to answer your question shorty,
Yes. We will. But not before the mod is established and has a good version out. The reason we will, is for the sake of everyone who has helped us, and will be helping us.

Stop treating mod devs poorly. These people mod as a hobby or as a service to the community, they don't have to take your suggestion and you are not entitled to anything from them.
