NOTE: I am currently also working on another mod, which will take priority over this. Don't worry though, my friend will be working on models and textures quite often. Plus, I am mostly doing coding and technical stuff, which will be much easier for me to do once I finish my online Java class that I am currently taking, so that should help speed up the progress of both mods as far as coding goes.
Welcome to Avatar: The Last Blockbender. This is a mod to introduce the art of bending from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra to Minecraft. The first few versions of this mod will focus on the bending aspect, while including some mobs and other misc. things. You will find out more about what we plan on including below.
You probably came into this thread hoping that there would be pictures. Unfortunately, I must report that we have none at the moment. But, what I can give you is a description on how we plan on including bending as well as a list of planned features that is subject to a lot of change, and the promise that this mod will not be abandoned for as long as the Avatar cycle remains intact.
Bending:
Bending is a tricky thing to implement into Minecraft. My friend and I are doing our best to make it feel as natural as possible while also making it act as close to real bending as possible. The system that we currently hope to implement (which is explained in a rather lengthy paragraph below) will add a skill factor to bending, while also making practicing your bending worthwhile.
We will be implementing a Chi system. You will have a Chi bar that will go deplete as you bend. When this bar depletes you must wait for it to refill enough to perform another bending move. The amount of Chi you have will depend on how much you have bended, and whether the bending you have done has been rather basic overall or more advanced. The amount of Chi that each moves takes will also depend on how advanced the move is.
Now, onto the actual bending. We have not worked out any specific moves yet (though we both have a number of ideas for those), we can give you a description of how bending will work overall. You will bend using button combos. The first time you try out a specific bending move you must be very precise on the timing of your combos (how precise you must be the first time depends on how advanced the move is), the more you do a specific move the less precise you must be. This makes practicing your bending very beneficial, as the more you practice the easier it will be to bend. This is one of the ways that we will balance bloodbending as well as lightning. For both of the bending techniques mentioned above, you must be VERY precise, and the precision that the moves take will not go down much, at most after practicing a ton it will be as easy as an advanced move after one or two times. I'm not sure how much sense that made to anyone but me, but I'm hoping that it at least made a little.

cool, you should add something where there is a chance that you could use certain bending, like 50 percent chance that you will have one of the basic moves like fire, water, air, and earth. 15 percent chance that you can blood bend. 7 percent chance that you can blood bend plus bend another thing (fire, water, earth, and air) and 3 percent chance that you will be an avatar (if you make an smp one it should be there can only be one avatar per server, when someone gets banned it opens up again) and 1 percent chance of being an avatar that CAN bloodbend (same thing as for smp on the avatar) and earth benders should be able to metal bend when they get strong enough

Thanks for the reply! Everyone will be able to bend the sub-element of the element that they chose when spawning in. All waterbenders can bloodbend, all earthbenders can metalbend, ect. The sub-elements will just be more difficult to master (especially bloodbending and lightning). But there will be chances for you to be able to bloodbend any time and such.

Um, the mod in my sig has most definitely been started. There are some pictures in the OP of the mod and we have a number of models that just need skinning.
Should I make a player model? If not then too bad, I just did...
Haha, I already have a model ready (I'll probably do the same with my other mod). Which reminds me, I probably should post some of the things I told you on here.

-There will likely be a Spirit world, but we don't plan on adding it too soon. Only the Avatar will be able to access the Spirit world.
-The Avatar State is being worked out. Right now we think that we're going only allow it to be accessed when there is a mob (or mobs) whose (combined) health equals, or exceeds, a certain number. It will take up all of your chi and only last until there is no more danger around.
-One of the control schemes we are looking in to at the moment is using U, H, J, K, N, and M, in the shape of a body. This is not the only control scheme that will be looked in to. -Chi blocking will be included at some point, and will be exclusive to non-benders (as well as a few other things TBD). You will be able to choose to be a non-bender when spawning.
I have a suggestion for the Avatar state. Make character skins for each element, and they override the current player skin, then put in a random chance for each skin, but make it equal, once that is done all you have to do is make a set of things that should happen, and when it does, Boost the chi and muscle stats tenfold and change the skin to the current random skin but with white eyes/and tattoos...
Now for the thing about activating the Avatar state.
If you meditate enough and practise bending enough AND have a REALLY high level of "spirit" you should be able to go into the avatar state at will. BUT it will drain your energy (new GUI on top of armour/health called energy) and if you run out of energy you cant bend very well. If you have been chi-blocked, you should also lose all your energy and Chi (Another new GUI on top of health/armour) but will recover in a while. You will lose all control over your body and just lie there, as if you are in bed, but are able to be picked up (ANOTHER skill) or pushed around...Also, if it comes to servers, let one lucky player be the avatar. Let him/her have the ability to take away peoples bending (most likely ADMIN) and give people bending. Also, that should only be possible if that avatar figure has met a Lionturtle...
