How soon do you think you'll be adding some zoo animals?
Also, where do I find the change log so I can look to see what all has been done in the mod so far, without having to download it? I'd like to be able to check on that each time you post an update.

Help me! i downloaded it and i didn't get any animals!
This is still a development version. We're checking to see how the basic elements work out before we add animals; we've had animals in our behind-the-scenes versions before but they caused problems (I gather from the scant info I've heard) so they're not in there right now.
I have no idea why the mod is currently titled what it is; I only put on what our chief coder tells me to. Work in Progress, so please don't panic

im still verry excited im hoping soon that we will get animals id love to throw the animal version in my game its only a private server so i could deal with bugs just to have fennec foxes id do ANYTHING to my server lol!
edit
i still want to be able to tame a fennec fox in my minecraft and please can they get along with the wolves?

I'd assume that pets would get along. It's irritating to have to choose between pets so you don't have two that are trying to kill each other, so any pets that you tame should be friendly toward (or at least ignore) each other.
...actually, it'd be kind of neat if they defended each other.
Anyway, in the wild, I'd think that Fennecs would be shy and steer clear of bigger, rougher wolves. Is this different from how you envision them?

well in the real world fennecs and wolves dont ever meet and im sure if they did the poor fenfen woudl end up a snack :c but in the wild they could be neutral toechother in minecraft i am really excited for this mod to hit the web im currently working on getting my server upped to 1.7.10
This is looking amazing, I cannot wait to get this ready in a separate profile. When making the dinosaurs maybe add compatibility to the Paleocraft mod as they're adding realistic dinosaurs which would look really good in a zoo setting(not bashing the F&A mod but theirs are more Minecraft-y).

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

If we ever get the mod itself into a stable release with all the regular zoo animals, then we can start looking into the Dinosaur Digs expansion stuff. We're not looking at dinosaurs at the moment, since we've got a lot of other stuff to do (and it's slow going), but I assume we'll try to get compatibility with any mod that seems like it would work well with ours.

Post something you've created. If it's decent enough to fit with the rest then you're on the team
You'd be under Bazaloy, our chief coder, assuming he's still around to supervise and give assignments. Other than that, just create models of whichever zoo animals strike your fancy (we're starting with the list from the original Zoo Tycoon) and we'll see where it takes us.

I managed to make what I believe to be a decent lion model. What do you think of it?
Btw, for certain animals(American Bison, African Warthog), should the models somewhat resemble the vanilla models?

Dad likes it. Looks good to me.
I'd say we need to keep, overall, to the general style of Minecraft, simplifying perhaps not quite so much as vanilla but pretty close to it. I've seen mods that make animals look like they're from a totally different game, and that's not the feel I'm going for. If I remember, I'll go find the mod I'm thinking of and post a link so you can see what I mean.

Fossils and Archaeology does a pretty good job when it comes to models. They should have that same kind of not-so-vanilla but not-so-realistic stuff. As for the zebra, that would obviously use the horse model, just retextured (the horse model is pretty complex for a vanilla model).

Well, I've made a tails Doll model for the Sonic the Hedgehog Mod:
And that's fine by me. I think if I get on the team, I'll work on a pangolin model.

But yeah, welcome to the team! Please see about making distinct male and female versions of your models (I know Minecraft critters are technically single-gender types, but I can't see any way to do that and display the beauty of the sexual dimorphism in real-life nature)... Minecraft handles kid animals on its own, right? And keep them "realistic" (so kids playing this mod will learn something about the wild) without breaking the feel of Minecraft. Let's see if I can give you some guidelines in that regard:
A quick search says that the Endangered Mobs Mod (shown off ) has the low end of design. The monkeys look pretty awesome, the toucan is good, camel's not bad, tapir and platypus are acceptable, while several others (elephant, bears, giraffe) are way too blocky, and the eagle's not only derpy enough that it flies without flapping its wings (what the heck?) but it looks really weird and not at all majestic like an eagle ought to look.
Birds Mod hits a level of "acceptable, but we can do better." I've always liked the fact that they were trying to get more birds into Minecraft, and their models aren't bad.
Mo' Creatures... obviously DrZhark put a lot of effort into making his creatures, and a lot of them look extraordinary; I'm pleased that his horses made it into vanilla. Every time I try out Mo' Creatures, the world is just far too busy, and the other day I was trying to think why I have such a negative reaction to it... I think it's because when I'm out in the wild, I see animals from a distance, and most of them shy away from humans (and each other!), so there's never a time when I see a couple dozen within a few short steps except at the zoo, and even then it's usually a single type instead of mixed. Having them all out in the wild like that feels wrong, somehow. And there's always too many elephants, everywhere, so even though I know that elephants spawn in more biomes than I'm used to, I'd much rather see occasional herds instead of seeing them everywhere I go.
But anyway, the models. I don't really care for his style of birds. Can't stand the wolves (brrrr) -- they're completely out of tone with the rest of Minecraft. The sharks are... interesting. Dolphins turned out pretty good. Cats, big cats, and deer seem too blocky -- and that's particularly troubling for me with the housecats, because it kills my immersion to see them in the game at all, and I love cats. I'd want them much more like the vanilla cats, which are cute and not too blocky.
Box turtles was a good choice and well done. Gators look good. Goats look like they could be in vanilla just the way they are, and that's awesome. Turkeys look stunning, primarily due to the texture (and they make me want to see a peacock). Wyverns look awesome. Crabs are good. Raccoons look like crap, and I'm not sure what's setting me off there... possibly that the head looks way too big for the body?
Project Zulu has a giraffe that's too blocky... I hate the square wings of the eagle. In general, wasn't too impressed.
OceanCraft Mod has a pretty good looking turtle, though the rest of the mobs look blocky. No, actually the seagull look pretty good, and the oyster is a good use of blockiness to make a little atmospheric mob. Biome Birds also has a good seagull, and used to have a variety of good birds but it seems the pics have gone missing
AtmosMobs has some really good stuff. I used it a long time ago and am sad that it hasn't updated, because it was a good alternative to the more busy Mo' Creatures. Bison looks kick-ass. Frog, Turtle, and Salamander also a good use of generally blocky style to make good-looking mobs.
Lycanite's Mobs! I think that's the one. Look at that banner: Those creatures are way, way too detailed to fit right into Minecraft along blocky sheep and chickens. Take a look at the rest of these mobs: There's absolutely no connection left to the blocky design of the game, none at all. That is a direction I do not want to go in with ZooCraftia.
Twilight Forest has a squirrel that looks really cute, but again I wonder how well it fits into the overall tone of Minecraft. Because the main thing we want is for all the animals to look like they were created for and belong in the same world, and in the same world as the vanilla creatures, rather than made up by different subsets of a committee so they have all different levels of detail and could just as well be copy-pasted from a dozen different games.
