Hello all,
I'm currently playing a 1.7.10 (forge) modpack on my own server. I'm looking for a mod that would announce the real world time every 15 minutes in ingame chat.
I have exactly 0 knowledge in programming myself and I couldn't find any mod that would do that. Maybe it exists out there but I can't seem to find it.
Is this even possible? Can one of you guys help me out?
wow, thank you very much for taking your time and actually coding a mod for me! It's working exactly as you intended.
I don't know why, but the server time from my server is 6 minutes ahead xD
I would very much appreciate it if you could change it so it gets the time from somewhere else (google?) and if it would announce the time at exactly 00:00, 00:15, 00:30 and 00:45.
(I'm in Germany, UTC+1, if that matters for the time fetch thingy).
Just if it's not too complicated to do that... <3
Oh, and just to let you know, the coloured text is not default. It's just "S:messageText=The time now is %s", but I could add the §7 myself of course
Thanks again for taking your time. I really appreciate it.
I'm sorry to say, but something is not correct with the new 1.1.
I've deletet the old .jar, .zip and the config file before i uploaded the new .jar and .zip. It created the new config file itself on server start...
The default message now is "S:messageText=§7The time now is §f%s"
Which is giving me
I've changed it to "S:messageText=§7%s"
Which is giving me
This was showing correct before, in the 1.0 version...
And the "useInternetTime" doesn't seem to work at all. It's listed as "B:getTimeFromInternet=true" in the config file. I've tested true and false, but it's still 6 minutes ahead (using my server's time). It is displaying 21:00, but at 20:54.
Maybe you could look into that again... It's not that important, don't feel pressured
We are playing Project Ozone 2 Reloaded on the server. I don't think there are other chat related mods installed which would cause a conflict with your script. I just wanted to let you know, just in case...
Ok, the color is working ingame now.
I guess I have to keep the  in front of the §7now... That's not a problem.
Now to the real thing
Heres the server log:

As you can see, it starts at exactly 22:00. But in reality it was 21:54
testing right now...
I deleted the config file and let it generate a new one.
# Configuration file

S:dateTimeFormat=HH:mm
I:frequencySeconds=900
B:getTimeFromInternet=true
S:messageText=§7The time now is §f%s

while we wait for 22:45 I have another question:
Lets say I change the frequency seconds to 3600 and I start the server at 20:17. Would it be smart enough to skip all the way to 21:00 or would it announce 20:30 and then 21:30?
Ah ok I see...
I guess I'll play the next FTB Pack which has the new Thaumcraft in it. Will Thaumcraft be out for 1.11? Nobody knows...
If it's really easy for you to compile the mod I'd download a 1.10.2 version, just in case I want to play FTB Beyond later this year...
Maybe you're still around in the future when I would like to use it again on a newer version
You're awesome
When I started this thread I would have never thought somebody would actually invest so much time to write me a mod.
The modded minecraft community is so nice in general!
Im sorry to bother you again, but i`ve noticed the mod sometimes announces the wrong time. For example it just now announced 00:21 in chat (at 00:15 real world time).
It seems to me that it has something to do with the server load. When there is much going on and I can see in console "Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running 2168ms behind, skipping 43 tick(s)".
It seems to get worse the longer the server is running. I´ve set the server to auto restart every morning at 8.
If you could think of an easy fix for that i would be really thankful if you would release an updated version <3
Maybe let the mod check for the real world time every hour again and not just on startup?
(if you want me to test the fix first, we are running forge for minecraft 1.10.2 now...)
i got to go offline now, but ill try to contact the support of my server hoster and ask about the server time... i guess ill try the live chat later today when im back at around 6pm.
i cant seem to find an actual error in the log file, but i could miss something.

thats all. it doesnt even print anything in the console when it is showing the time ingame.
if you take a look at the picture again, its announcing 23:59 (at 24:00) and then 00:21 (at 00:15).
if i remember correct it used to be the other way around when it used server time. it would say "00:15" in chat, but it was 00:09 in real world.
edit:

your mod should work fine then if i set getTimeFromInternet=false
cant test at the moment unfortunately, because theyre having problems with the live console not working
yea so i was playing on the server until now and i took another screenshot. its always 1 minute early.
when your mod announces 21:59 it really is 21:59. it jumps to 22:00 1 or 2 seconds later on the windows clock.
ive entered test messages in the console of my server and it seems the server time is ahaid these 2 seconds.
there are no messages in the console from your mod. so i think your mod uses the "2 seconds ahaid server time" to trigger the chat message, but its not using the same "2 seconds ahaid" time to display in chat. in theory it should just announce 22:00 at 21:59:58 (which would be fine)
i have no clue how these server times work and i dont know anything about writing mods, but could there be 2 different clocks running on the server?
oh god i hope this makes sense to you, my english is not the best. im sorry...

when your mod announces 21:59 it really is 21:59. it jumps to 22:00 1 or 2 seconds later on the windows clock.
ive entered test messages in the console of my server and it seems the server time is ahaid these 2 seconds.
there are no messages in the console from your mod. so i think your mod uses the "2 seconds ahaid server time" to trigger the chat message, but its not using the same "2 seconds ahaid" time to display in chat. in theory it should just announce 22:00 at 21:59:58 (which would be fine)
i have no clue how these server times work and i dont know anything about writing mods, but could there be 2 different clocks running on the server?
oh god i hope this makes sense to you, my english is not the best. im sorry...
