I have, what I feel like, is a really, really simple request. I feel like if I had the time to sit down and really study I could probably figure out how to do it on my own, but I have zero experience writing mods and the closest thing to code I have worked with is PHP (and only a little)
I want a mod that does one, simple thing...or at least I feel like it should be really simple. I want a mod that adds a Rainbow Leaves tree like the one from the Twilight Forest mod. It seems like TF development has all but stopped, and it has always been a lag-inducing mod anyway at least on servers. I really only like it for the one tree after playing through it so many times.
The mod I want would add JUST that tree. It can use the default texture for oak leaves (or maybe the 32x version with permission?) and the oak logs (or maybe acacia would look better?) and would behave in all other ways, exactly like a regular oak tree does....with the occasional large tree produced and the ability to "force" large tree growth with the ring of blocks around the sapling just like a regular oak does. I assume the rainbow coloring is coming from a custom colormap?
If anybody would be willing to do this for me, I might even be willing to pay a bit to sweeten the pot? (You would maintain all rights to posting the mod obviously...I just want access to use it in possibly public custom mod packs and for personal use)
please feel free to contact me on the Curse app or Discord [Alicatt#0236]
You shouldn't need permission to make a "rainbow tree mod" from TF people. You are simply creating a mod that adds a rainbow tree. They do not contain the rights to a "rainbow tree".
I've made them spawn rarely in flower forests, and I've added saplings to chest loot for village blacksmiths, dungeons and stronghold libaries, but I've also made the worldgen and the loot configurable.
Any questions or comments, please let me know
omg you're my hero!!!!!!! Checking now! Thank you <3

I have submitted this mod to the Curseforge modpack approved 3rd party modlist. I'm *fairly* certain that the open sourced licenses will be enough for approval, but it would be helpful to have an actual post/comment I can link to with permission directly from the mod author. Or if you had plans to upload it to curseforge that would be even better.
I can't update my modpack until I have the approval to include the mod

The LGPL license should be enough to get it on the CurseForge 3rd party mod list - and just in case they ask the Twilight Forest mod which I "borrowed" some code and textures from is also now LGPL as per Benimatic's GitHub - but for the avoidance of any doubt you have my permission to include it in modpacks
I'm happy to upload it to CurseForge if it's working as you wanted, or if there are any tweaks you'd like me to make let me know and I can do those first

I haven't had a chance to look at the config file, but from what I can tell just adding it to my pack and checking it out, seems exactly what I was looking for. I'm at work right now, so I can't check myself--is there an option in the config to add biome ids and frequency per id? That's something I would love to see if possible, if it's not too much trouble.
Also would be cool to have the other TF trees (Twilight Canopy & Twilight OAK especially) added with at least a rare chance to spawn in loot chests. I don't care anything about having the special effects of the time tree /etc, but it would be nice to have them for cosmetic reasons. Obviously if these things are a lot of trouble, it's not a big deal. Just getting my rainbow Oaks is awesome enough on its own.
Other than that... Yes, if it's something you want to do, putting it on curseforge would be awesome! Heck you'll probably have it up before they get around to approving it for the 3rd party list.
Thank u again soooooo much for doing this! I know for a fact I'm not the only person who misses this tree. It's extremely unique in the modding community.

The Biome IDs and the number of trees per chunk are configurable - by default it's set at 0.2 trees per chunk in flower forest biomes. You set can a biome list and/or change the frequency - I have a list of biome names here.
The other trees I might come back to another day, but there's already an effort to port TF to 1.11 so I don't want to tread on their toes too much. For now this is just a rainbow trees mod.
So as far as CurseForge goes, I'm happpy to publish it - I'm sure other people might like a little bit of Twilight Forest in their life I just didn't want it to fall flat on it's **** and then have to publish another version to fix it
And again, you're welcome I know it's been a while but I remembered your post and when TF got open sourced I thought "I got this..."
Awesome! Thank you!

It's open source. Have a looksie
I will look into contacting the TF people and see if I can obtain permission for this. Thank you for the response
