Think about al of the awesome stuf 18-1.10 has released- end city's, polar bears, elytra, different wood doors, magma blocks, I'm even a fan of the new combat! (it might have something to do with the new axe damage). Now think of all the good mods, what version are they in? It's the command block it ruined mods. However I'm not against it I really like it I just wish I could have both so I'm not A: trying to make a modded item in vanilla (not a noob it's just been a while) or B: trying to make a 1.8 door in 1.7.10 However,
Just wait for all the mod authors to updatetheir mods to 1.10 (they probably already have). THis would happen even faster if there weren't that much people sticking to 1.7 just because of one or two mods!
They aren't dead due to the command block, they are just huge mods, so take a long time to update (1.8 changed a lot. It makes it easier for new mods, but means old mods need to be almost completely re-written).

What kept me away from 1.8 and on was that to texture items, I'd not only have to create the item, the item texture, but then 2 .json files to add that texture to the item. It is the most annoying system for texturing.

Why 2 files?? you only need one!
And btw json file format is used to make the game use less memory, so it's an advantage! You can also make most models without a TESR now, so I consider it an advantage.

90% of mods are dead due to the command block this is including twilite forest and orespawn two of my favorite mods
