"as a begining for the mod (should someone ever decide to do so), it would probably be easier to do what IE does, and just use Ray Tracing (going from one point to another, checking for obsticals then rendering a line) but with a bigger cable, maybe eight or ten pixels tall (would still render as a 2d object that always faces the player). Then, later on once people ahve made it common practive to have ray-traced pipes that look freeking awesome, someone can come along and do the unthinkable, and make items render in the pipes. But before that happens, have 2 states for the types of pipes: Off and On. On will have a collored arrow (blue: liquid; white: item; red: energy) animated that goes from one point to the other, and when there isn't anything in the pipe, it doesn't get animated!"
Other things later in development to consider:
hanging mini conveyor belts for items?(instead of pipes being able to)
crafting with rubber from other mods!
use by length?(more comes out of your pocket as the connection is longer)
transporting Pneumatic Craft Pressure!!!(one of my favorite Ideas!)
FLAXbeard's steam support!!!
Liquid pressure system to transport liquids faster in stronger reinforced pipes!
pressure explosions!
optional Rf powered pumps for fluids(maybe in config)!
movement animations!
rubber pipe collisions with blocks!
redstone connections?
Project Red hanging Bundled cable?
Sometime in the past I made a little more vague proposal for this and a modder caught on and started work on it.
But alas he has vanished a long time ago.
This concept is so simple I just wonder why no one has done it...
It doesn't seem like it'd be hard to implement.
I just hope this thread goes somewhere and doesn't go dead...
Where are all the other modders? This is a cool idea, i've currently got my hands full with multiple projects, but i'm sure one more won't hurt...
Edit: I guess the reason you find so many tools, ores and biomes mods is because of there simplicity to make. They only require very simple modding and programming skills and so people keep making them, unless of course it's a big mod like Mekanism, TE or Metallurgy or something.

O.O Really? you really like it? I dont care how long it takes it would be amazing if you could fit it into your skedual! if you want I could make some textures and if you could work with models from Ichun's Tabula I could make some.
Nowadays only unoriginal mods are developed; the typical biomes, tools and ores mods.
Unfortunately many good ideas, like "Tall Worlds", your idea "Realistic rubber tubes" and my idea "Total Vision 360"; have a slow development, other times are not developed
I was looking at the high view count but low reply count...
It dosent seem like coding this would be anywhere near as hard as those other mods.. you just need an entity rendering system and a "wireless" Item/liquid transfer system.

Yeah, this is not too complicated in theory, the hardest part would be curving pipes.
I think the main reason things like this don't get taken up is that either modders with the skill to make them, and interest in making them, don't come here, or they are drowned by other ideas. Sadly, the best way to get things like this made is to make them yourself.

Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.
Well I may start learning java by the end of next year but... yah.. gotta wait for college to roll around and I need to take a stupid pre-requisite "intro to software design". What? Why would I need that(probably elementary and obvious crap I already know) to take a class on java!?!?!?!?

Sometimes there are things you need to learn, for example I can code reasonably well, but I don't document how I plan to do something, it's all inside my head, apparently this is something you need to do. You could start learning Java at home, I got started in programming with a language called Logo, I tried C++ later and hated it, a few months ago I got into Java for modding Minecraft and loved it.

This should not be too hard to make, unless you want the rubber pipes to be collidable (not a good idea). This would be just like Tesseracts from Thermal Expansion, but with a distance limit and with a simple curve drawn in between. It would look something like this, but the quartz blocks would be energy cells.
Yeah it is such a simple idea. I just don't know why no one has done it before...
yah and immersive engineering does too but they don't carry liquids or items... do they?
-edit: also thanks for adding your input on this matter. I was surprised to see you here since you are such an amazing modder and one that I really respect!

I saw your signature
I'm planning item transport using a system like this, will come soon (i think :D)
Awh, this is a great idea, don't feel discouraged! Even just making it a framework other people can use for their mods would be great, and I totally agree that having (most) pipes as huge blocks is kind of superfluous. Electricity, data and liquid pipes I can definitely see, items not so much, but conveyor belts could use a similar concept! I'd gladly use something like this for infrastructure if I was making a tech mod.

This isn't just your everyday shitposting, this is... advanced shitposting.

I cant say i agree on the items because look at all tube item transport mods. I mean unless you could make conveyor belts that are independent from the block grid...
Ever wished you could clean up that mess of blocky pipes in your laboratory? Ever wanted to stylishly transport items or fluids?
Now I've seen the the epic wiring system of Immersive engineering and it look and works spectacularly.
Other things later in development to consider:
huh... well i hope somebody is interested in this...
Those would be great! I could also imagine pneumatic craft surrport, like reinforced pressure tubes:
yes!! all of that!
I just hope a great modder stumbles upon this and takes up the idea...
well... I guess its dead... sadness..
its just a stupid Idea...

Also heres kinda another piece of inspiration:

Yeah it is such a simple idea. I just don't know why no one has done it before...
Also RandomAdditions has something like it, the only difference is that the wires are straight.

thanks! it really helps to hear peoples opinions on this and it helps even more that the idea is catching on to several modders!
I had the idea before but you gave it a higher priority .
oh. cool. if its made by you tho It'l most likely be great!
