Hello all.
I was wondering if a mod, or more of a program separate from Minecraft, existed which could track players. It would locate which server a player is on based off of their Minecraft IGN. This would be great for finding one's friends or tracking down griefers. Thanks.

probably not. there is an ability for mods to teleport to players and to get players to teleport to them but tracking is not possible.
This wouldn't be anything ingame. It would be a small java applet which could tell you the last server a player had been on, or which one they are currently on. One may be able to do this with IPs... It might require server-wide cooperation, though. Help, please.
It may not bethat efficient but try minecraftprofile.com/user/*****
insert their exact player name instead of the stars. It will tell yoou what server they logged off of last on a vanilla server. It may not work sometimes but it does work to an extent. I've found out that almost all the famous minecrafters even notch play at PvP.MinePlant.net:25565. Impersonally don't like it but I already saw GameChap. Hope This helped bye
I was on a Tekkit Lite server, I crashed but still had my Crash Log, it showed me EVERY Entity that was being Rendered on the server, IDk how, BUT if this works in Vannila Minecraft, there you go!
Man, I could seriously use that right now. Some guy called deathkingson stole items from me on a server, now I want to track him down and make him give the stuff back.
1. If you're the owner of the server this IS possible.
- A mod server-side can feed the coordinates of a player to a java applet.
2. If you're not the owner, this is not possible.
- Even if you make a java applet, you can't send a request to the server for a players coordinates; it simply will not understand how to provide it.
2.5. If you're within range of the player.
- If you're within render-distance of the player, this is possible with clientside mods due to the player being loaded in memory.
3. Tracking players between servers.
- This is not possible. All servers that a player joins would have to have a way of broadcasting their server lists to the applet, and this is a near impossible task for EVERY Minecraft server. Also, there is no way to tell which server a player is on; not even websites that have server lists. These websites index servers to ping periodicly for playerlists, and that provides tracking. If the server is not indexed (or denies any indexing), the player is off the grid. I doubt even Mojang can pull server IP's from auth requests.
Here's something for ya https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/friendcraft/id576206687?mt=8 It's an app for iPod/iPhone/iPad and allows you to track either servers or people. You type in a username and it will track them for you. It'll tell you when they're online and send you the server IP of where they're on. If you enable it, it even gives you a notification when someone in the list connects to a server! Check it out!

Are we talking about mods or java applications?
I remember a mod back in 1.3.1, I blatantly remember the name. Somewhere along the lines of "MineFriends" where if one person had the same mod you guys could add each other and it would notify you when that person/friend is online, what server and you could even click "Invite to Server" or "Join Server". It was pretty interesting but, I'll look further into making something like this.
It is possible. Nothing is impossible. The easiest way would require them to have the mod installed too though, otherwise it would take quite a bit of coding/time to get a working product.
Im sure there is one somewhere, which im really looking for at the moment because of this server name i completely forgot the I.P that one of my cousins join so if there is one it should show me the server the player is on. Hopefully

uh if he was the owner he could just teleport himself to the player and kill him, or just use a kill command. server owners dont even need to be online to kill people.I have heard that they are going to implement a friends list that does just that into vanilla minecraft at some point in the future, but i haven't got a date.
