Pretty much a mix of stats, the world of Lord of the Rings, and the combat system from Mount & Blade: Warband. Since it is split into multiple idea structures, I will space them out as to provide ease of access to people who only care about certain parts.
LoTR Structure:
All current mobs except for cows, sheep, and chickens will be removed. Instead of hostile mobs spawing at night, there will be hostile "lairs". These will spawn during map generation and will be a breeding pit for evil, day and night.
After the world is created, you must also create your character for the server. You will be able to choose elf, hobbit, man, dwarf, or orc for your character. There is no difference between these characters other than looks and that orcs are "evil", so evil mobs like goblins will not attack them.
There will be 2x2 horses that run around and spawn in plains and certain other biomes other than desert. They automaticly walk up 1 block high jumps, and can jump 2 blocks high. They will only jump if they are made to by a rider, or are being attacked. They can "gallop" just like the player sprints, gaining a speed increase. I have not decided if there will be any limit to galloping. They must be tamed with wheat, and do not need a saddle to ride once tamed, but you will run out of hunger faster without a saddle.
Trolls will spawn in large caves underground wandering around. They will eat anything they see including "evil" mobs. Evil mobs may tame them by hurting them until they kneel down and then putting a saddle on them. Evil mobs will do this automatticly during world gen, so most layers that have humanoid evil mobs will generaly have tamed cave trolls as well. If you are an orc and you tame a cave troll you can equip it with armor and weapons. All trolls are 4 blocks high and 3 blocks wide.
When tools/weapons/armor run out of uses, they are unequipped (if possible), and can no longer be used (armor will not provide any protection if equipped while out of uses). In order to repair anything, combine 1 of whatever was used to make it, and it will be repaired based on how much was used to make it originally. (For example, combining one iron with an iron shovel will repair it completely since it only takes 1 iron to make it.)
D&D Structure:
Each character has 4 main stats (These are the only stats! No gigantic tree of annoying stats!)
Strength - Increases damage in melee, speed of readying bow, speed of attacks in melee, and the velocity of arrows.
Endurance - Increases HP, resistance to physical damage, and decreases the rate at which your hunger lowers.
Agility - Increases running speed and speed of melee weapons.
Cunning - Increases your speed when sneaking, accuracy and zoom of bow when aiming, and decreases the chance of being seen while sneaking.
You get 1 point to spend on stats each time you level up. There is no max on levels or stats.
There are no stats, nor will there be, that effect building or digging! Your ability to build or dig is based on how much you want to!
Combat System:
Like in Mount & Blade: Warband, when you attack, you attack in the direction you move your mouse when attacking. Right clicking blocks in the direction of an incoming attack, or in the direction you point in if not under attack. Holding down left click will make you hold the attack in a ready stance so you can attack faster when ready, but you move slower if on foot.
On top of the fighting system being different for you, all enemies must attack in order to deal damage. This means nothing can just walk into you and then you get hurt, which also means you could, theoreticly, block all incoming attacks. (Except for things that are bigger than you, then you just get squished)
Changes to current game:
All mobs will be taken out as said in LoTR Structure.
Hovering over items with durability shows you a number value of their current uses, it is also shown when repairing.
Hovering over items with stats will show you all of their respective stats.
Tool durability change as said above in LoTR Structure.
When you craft things there will be multiple choices for how it will look. These are purely aesthetic and are there to provide variety.
You cannot make leather armor from skin, instead you must combine 2 skin to make 1 leather, used for leather armor.
When an animal dies it lies on the ground for a bit, if you have a knife you can skin it. All skinned animals will give at least 2 skin.
I am texturing this whole mod, and I will most likely be makeing this whole mod myself. While I am not new to Java, I am new to making games in Java. My current level of knowledge in Java is just high enough to begin moving on to modding games, so I know the language but not the particular syntax. I am looking for people who share my interest in the idea and are also willing to help, or just some critiques/suggestions.
Please note that this is not based on Lord of the Rings, but the WORLD of Lord of the Rings, so I better not see any pronouns in your suggestions. :tongue.gif:
I have done a lot of work on it since I first posted this two days ago as well! I am updating it with this post, so it's kind of an update bump as well.
Interesting. I'll be watching to see if you get any further with it.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!
It is a texture pack! I have been in a drawing mood recently, so I am doing the re-texture for Minecraft and the textures for the actual mod first. When I am finished the texture pack is going to be seperate from the LoTR mod, so the mod can run by itself. However, the texture pack is recommended to be used with the mod for the best effect!

Okay, is it 16x16? 32x32??? I think it should be 16x16 so you don't need MCpatcher with it.
Yes it is 16x16. I am working on the gui and terrain right now, the items will be last. I don't like drawing items... :tongue.gif:
Also, the cobblestone and mossy cobble in the picture are no longer there. They have been completely remade because I think they look awful in that version.

Orlly?? Well, the books where written somewhere in the 18 hundred's, so there a classic, to me anyways, but the movies are okay to me, I hope "The hobbit" is better.

It was based on D&D in my mind. I haven't actually played D&D in a while, I just really like stats and such. Makes you feel like you are actually getting places with your gear and your own strategies. It isn't meant to be based exactly on D&D, just a few ideas I liked from it.
